“Hmm?”
Maybe not.
“Pretty.”
That didn’t tell me anything but him getting up from the bed did.
Oh.
The present went on the top of my dresser, positioned like it was one of the treasures on his shelf at his place.
That was…unexpected…but I could see the logic for big Klynn and little Klynn.
“It’s very pretty.” And it was something special to him and related to his little stuff, so it belonged on a shelf. “It looks wonderful there.”
And nothing in it was edible, so it would be fine there for as long as he wanted to look at it.
“Are you ready for dessert?” And for Daddy to re-evaluate the plans for the evening. “I have a treat present for you.”
“Yummy.” Nearly bouncing, he looked around with an adorably greedy look on his face. “Ice cream? Wren.”
“No, it’s not ice cream.” I frowned again and huffed. “I don’t know how to use the freezer.”
That had him snickering and not trying to hide how funny my problems were. “Sad Daddy. Oh dear.”
Brat.
He managed not to laugh as he came over and kissed my cheek, but it was barely being held back. “Treat make better.”
A treat would make it better, huh?
“I think that’s a wonderful plan.” Because I’d brought one of my favorite treats since I had a reason to indulge. “Let’s see if it will make me better.”
“It?” Giving an excited wiggle, he took my hands and gave them a tug that was just about showing me what to do rather than moving me anywhere. “What?”
It was my turn to try not to laugh and I knew I was the one looking like a Disney villain that time based on his adorable whine.
“Hurry.” Getting what he wanted seemed to involve more kisses because I got pecks on both cheeks that time. “Faster. Faster. Boys say faster.”
The boys in his books or the real ones?
“Alright.” Letting him pull me up that time, I chuckled. “Treat present time.”
Going back over to the dresser, I raised one eyebrow. “Close your eyes.”
That got another naughty snicker out of him but he obeyed and even put his hands over his eyes. “Good boy. Big treats.”
He was adorable.
“Hmm…do good boys get big treats?” His logic was impeccable and he knew it based on how confident his nod was as I opened the drawer and pulled out a package of Oreos. “Ready?”
His squeal was the cutest sound I’d ever heard. “Yes. Hurry. Faster. Faster.”
“One. Two. Three.” Setting the package on the top of the dresser, I had to fight not to laugh. “Open your eyes.”
Klynn jumped as his eyes opened but went still as he saw what I’d brought for him. “Ohhh…Oreos, Daddy.”
I wasn’t sure if the way to his heart was through his stomach or through presents, but it looked like either way I was the best Daddy ever.
Chapter 21
Klynn
“You need shelves.” He didn’t have anywhere for me to put my box besides the top of his dresser and it just looked wrong. “My present looks odd.”
Daddy paused by the bed, cocking his head and studying the box. “Should it go on your shelves? I was thinking we’ll probably spend more time there.”
Maybe.
Did he know he was supposed to move in with me?
“I don’t have a lot of extra room for stuff.” Daddy’s things specifically. “I’ve got a smaller set of rooms because it was just me.”
Now it wasn’t just me.
Daddy swallowed and started nodding but he didn’t say anything for a few moments. “For the time being I can keep my clothes and stuff here while we figure the rest out.”
So he knew he was going to be moving in but wasn’t ready to say it?
Humans were weird.
“Okay.” I could be patient with the practical side of things as long as he wasn’t going to try to actually live separately from me. “Are you ready to go to my place?”
I needed to change and we needed breakfast.
Thankfully he didn’t have another early meeting but he was going to be spending half the day with the council ironing out the rules for visitors and what would be able to be taken across the portal. The biggest issue seemed to be a lack of fine print on our end. The council seemed to think they could make a few broad rules that everyone would follow and Daddy thought that was insane.
After meeting the dragons on the other side and reading about humans, I knew Daddy was right but there wasn’t going to be any way to explain it to the more sheltered leaders on the council. For the most part we weren’t the chaos-causing type for a variety of reasons and they just couldn’t wrap their minds around the problems that were in store for us.
“Yes.” Nodding to himself, Daddy slipped into work mode. “I don’t think I need to bring anything today. I gave them an American-style gift basket when we first got here so this should be a practical meeting.”
