“Well, as suspected, this has to do with Finn.”
I nodded. “And Finn wants to top?”
“I didn’t ask, but Finn does both, being bi, and Kola doesn’t want him to not do something he enjoys because they’re together.”
“Tell me he’s discussed this all with Finn.”
“He’s going to now that he knows that either way, it doesn’t change anything. I told him that he should have spoken to you because you’ve done both as well.”
“I don’t think so. He asked you because he’s invested in what you’ll think of him as a man if he bottoms.”
“Which, I mean, what he does in his bedroom is none of my fuckin’ business.”
“That’s true, but he also has to know that how you see him won’t change.”
“Which it never could,” he assured me. “You know that.”
“I do know that.”
“Basically, he wanted to know why, and I told him I’m not wired that way. I have no interest in that part of––of…you know.”
“In being penetrated,” I apprised him.
“Why do you hafta––”
“Because we’re being clear right now, which is how you were with your son. Yes?”
“You know I was.”
“Then what did you say?”
“I said I have never had any desire to be on the bottom but that if he wants that, then whatever he wants is great.”
I smiled at him.
“What?” he growled at me.
“That was very good.”
“I simply told him that sex should be whatever he wants to do with Finn and that the only important part is that they talk, a lot, and everyone absolutely has to be on the same page. I told him that falling for you rocked my world in a really great way, because that was the first time I was ever in love, but also in ways where I had to figure out my whole life all over again. I mean, before I met you, I knew who I was. And then you changed everything overnight, and we both know I was not prepared.”
“No, you weren’t,” I agreed.
“It took me a long time to figure out what being bi meant for me. What it meant for the rest of my life.”
“Yes.”
His eyes searched mine. “I’m sorry it took me so––”
“No,” I said firmly. “This part of our past has closed up shop, Mr. Kage. It’s done. I know you love me now and loved me then. It was just, as you said, life-altering.”
He nodded.
“It’s not at all the same for Kola. Whatever he wants, he can have, no dark night of the soul necessary.”
Quick exhale. “Which is what I basically said. I told him, do whatever makes both you and Finn happy, and just make sure you fuckin’ talk.”
I tried so hard not to smile over how miserable he looked.
“I hate you,” he moaned, falling back onto the bed.
“What? Why?”
“You know I hate this kinda stuff. I would have rather had another one of those deep-scale cleanings at the dentist than talk to him about sex.”
“If you brushed and flossed and used the mouthwash like you’re supposed to, no drinking or eating for thirty minutes, you could bypass that cleaning. They had to numb both sides of your mouth last time.”
“I know.”
“You were drooling.”
“I know!”
I cackled, pushing on his shoulder with my socked foot.
“I will eat that foot starting with the toes if you touch me again.”
“I’m very proud of you,” I whispered, smiling at him as I poked his bulging bicep with my toe several times. It was like hitting a wall, that was how hard his beautiful arms were.
He grabbed my foot, yanked off the sock, then pulled me toward him, and as we dissolved into laughter, he gently bit my big toe, the pad of my foot, and then the arch.
“You’re a good man, Sam Kage,” I told him between giggling, but I stopped when he covered me with his big, hard body, pinning me beneath him. “And I love you as deeply and desperately as I have since I was twenty-three.”
He grunted. “You loved me when you were twenty-two, who’re you kidding?” he rumbled before he kissed me.
I wrapped my arms and legs around my husband, feeling my body heat with the closeness.
“You two better not be doing anything disgusting up there! I need you down here and have pie right this second!” Hannah called up.
I didn’t want pie. Sam didn’t either.
“Pa, can you come here?” Kola called up. “I have a question.”
Sam broke the kiss and looked down at me, eyes twinkling. “Your turn,” he announced with a cackle.
“But I’m good at this part,” I said smugly.
“Yeah, ya are,” he agreed, before he kissed me again.
“Do not make me come up there and get you!” Hannah threatened.
We went downstairs right after that.
Okay. That’s it for July, everyone. Try not to melt in the heat out there, and I’ll see you in August. Stay safe and cool.
