On arrival, he knew she wasn’t there. Her car wasn’t there, and as soon as he stepped inside the house, there was no sign of her. The only other place he knew Wen could have been was at his father’s garage. Even though her food blog had taken off, and she made a good living off of it, she still took her responsibilities seriously.
He arrived at his father’s garage, and there were already a bunch of cars parked in the main lot. There was no sign of Wen’s car, and he didn’t know if she would have sold it, or just parked it somewhere he couldn’t see.
Entering the main reception, he didn’t see Wen. He saw his father at the main desk, and the reception room had at least five people waiting inside.
“Dad, have you seen Wen?” he asked.
“She came by earlier, handed in her resignation effective immediately, and left,” his father said, looking up. “She told me that under the circumstances, she shouldn’t be here. She gave me a complete and thorough run-through of her entire system, and wished me luck.”
His father was angry. Although he wasn’t showing it, Maverick was pissed off. The club loved Morwenna. He knew it was why none of them had rocked the boat, why they always warned him when she was on her way. This time, no one had done that. And it had fucked everything up.
No one had told Morwenna he had three kids. This was all a shit show. His mother had warned him, and several guys along the way had warned him. This was a mess he created for himself.
“Did she say where she was going?” he asked.
“No, and she didn’t answer me when I asked.”
His father was not looking at him. There was no way he was going to be able to figure this out with his father. There was only one other place she would go, and that had to be back home. Even though he came from that direction, she could have gone around a different route.
He was chasing himself right now. Slamming his hand on the counter, he spun away, made his way back to his bike, and sped back home.
Much to his surprise, her car was there in the driveway. The main door was closed, but he pulled out his keys and let himself in.
In the main kitchen, they had a table Wen had used as a setup to capture all the food she cooked and baked. There was a tripod, camera, and other devices.
The truth was, her love of food was adorable, and he didn’t think it would do much, however, each month, people read her food blogs. She even had calls to appear on cooking shows and stuff like that. All of which she turned down. She just wanted her food blog. She did it all for him.
Her camera stuff was not set up, though, it sat on the kitchen table in a bag, waiting to be sealed up.
“Wen!” He yelled her name, running around the house, then rushed upstairs to find his wife in their bedroom, packing. “Wen, I have been looking everywhere for you,” he said.
She didn’t say a word. Instead, she continued to fold her clothes, putting them into a suitcase.
“I know you’re ... pissed right now, and I’m so sorry. I know this seems impossible, but I promise you, it isn’t impossible. We can get through this. You and me. We can get through anything.” He let out a laugh. “We might even have a laugh and a joke about this.”
Wen looked at him, and he saw the redness from her face. The puffiness of her eyes. She looked shattered. It broke his heart to see her like that and know he caused this. He did this to her. And he couldn’t stand it.
“So, uh, yeah, I was, uh, I was thinking that it is time you and I go away together. I can talk to my dad, and we can arrange it. I know you’ve always wanted to go to England. We could go there. Or Italy, that looks like a fun place.”
“I just got a call from the sexual health clinic,” Wen said.
“What?”
“It would seem that ... I have a sexually transmitted disease which you have given me,” Wen said. “That you must have gotten from her.”
“That’s not possible.”
“I have never cheated. I have never been with anyone but you. So, you’re the only person that has cheated, and seeing as I know she has been with a lot of other people, I’ve gotten it from them.”
“Wen, I’m so—”
“Save it,” Wen said. “Nothing is going to change what has happened. I need to go and get a course of treatment, because of you. Because you were not faithful. Because you cheated on me, and you think words are going to make all of this better?”
