“A date?” Venom asked.
“Yeah, you and me, going out on Friday. We can party, and dance, and I can find you a woman.” She winked at him.
“Are you trying to encourage me to bring a woman back to our place?” he asked.
“It’s your home as well, and as long as she doesn’t steal anything, it will all be good.” She was not going to go down this route with Venom. She had sworn off dating, and besides, until Bolt signed the divorce papers, she was not free.
They were separated, and had been for over a year now. She didn’t know when he was going to sign those papers. At the sound of the doorbell ringing, she frowned and got to her feet. “I’ll go.”
“Did you order pizza?” Venom asked.
She checked through the security hole and saw it was Bolt at her door. She hadn’t even heard the sound of his bike. Unbolting the locks, she opened the door.
“I’m so sorry,” he said.
She looked behind him with a frown. “Where’s your car?”
“I didn’t bring it.”
“Bolt, you have three kids.”
“My mom hasn’t been by to collect them?” he asked.
“No, why would your mother...” she stopped. “Seriously, do you not care about them at all?”
“Of course I do, but they’re Star’s responsibility.”
“They’re your kids. You’re their father, and that makes them your responsibility as well.” She shook her head. What the hell is the matter with you?” she asked.
“If you want, they could be our kids,” he said.
Morwenna’s mouth fell open.
“You’re a good mother, Morwenna. I knew you would be.”
“And yet, you made sure I couldn’t have any of your kids, by giving me birth control, while claiming they were vitamins.” She shook her head. “I can’t believe you.”
“Look, I know I’ve made a couple of mistakes in the past, and I’m learning from them. I promise I am. We can make this work. I can make Star go away, and we can have the three kids, and she doesn’t need to be in any part of their lives.”
Morwenna couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Once again, Bolt clearly thought he could talk his way out of this trouble. That was what he always thought he could do.
Before she got the chance to say anything, Venom moved up behind her.
“Bolt,” he said.
“What the fuck do you want?” Bolt asked.
“That’s enough,” Morwenna said.
“We were happy before he came back,” Bolt said.
Morwenna let out a scream as all of a sudden Bolt lunged forward, attempting to hit Venom. She didn’t know what happened, but she somehow got a fist to the face, sending her to the floor.
“Shit, I’m sorry.”
She shoved Bolt away, not wanting him to touch her. With Venom’s help she was able to get off the floor, but her face was now stinging. “Unless you’re here to pick up your kids, then I suggest you leave.”
Pressing a palm to her face, she looked at Bolt and saw that he was remorseful, but right now, she didn’t want to deal with him feeling sorry. It was always the same excuse with him. How sorry he was, how he didn’t mean to do it. He always had a damn reason.
“Good night,” she said, closing the door, and it was a miracle she didn’t slam it.
“Let me look,” Venom said.
“No, it’s fine. He didn’t knock me out, so I think I’ll be okay.” Although, it did sting. However, Venom led her back into the kitchen, and he was already in the freezer, grabbing a bag of peas, and he pulled her hand away to look at the damage.
“The bruising is going to come out in a few days.”
“Do you still want to go out with me so we can find you a woman?”
“Your dad is not going to be happy,” he said, completely ignoring her.
“Hopefully, the bruising will be long gone before he finds out.” She didn’t want her dad to get angry.
The peas were helping, but she knew she was going to have a bruise.

“I was happy for us to not go out,” Venom said, lifting the beer bottle to his lips as he looked around at the busy bar. It was owned by the club, but it didn’t employ any of the club men or women. In fact, the barman was a friend of Maverick. Nigel, he believed his name was. There were several people working at the bar, but it had been a long time since he’d stepped foot inside the bar.
“Where is the fun in that?” Morwenna said. She wasn’t drinking beer and had a bottle of pure orange juice.
There was a band playing, a cross between country and rock music, and it sounded all right. Some kind of local group that played in different venues across the state.
He finished his beer, and Morwenna tapped the bar, asking for another.
“Are you trying to get me drunk?” he asked.
