“I’m helpful.” The spells were supposed to be helpful too. But I was more special. “I get kisses ’cause I was helpful.”

I gave him my cheek and he laughed again before he kissed me. “Good boy, Daddy.”

Ha.

He laughed more.

“I don’t know…” He got his teasing frown. “Good boys probably wear jammies.”

Daddy wanted to be naughty, so I gave him my thinking frown and tapped my chin. “Hmm…my Daddy doesn’t wear jammies…so he’s…a naughty boy.”

Ha.

Daddy’s naughty smile peeked out. “Quite possibly, but tonight you owe me a story.”

Naked Daddy story time.

That was silly too.

“Got to get in bed first.” I shrugged. “That’s the rules.”

“You’re so smart.” Daddy kissed my head and looked down at himself. “Do you want to help me get naked or do you need to use the potty?”

English had so many words.

It was amazing.

“No. I’m your helper.” Then Daddy would see he didn’t need to worry. “Hands up.”

Daddy wasn’t wearing his suit clothes that the diner men liked but he had a sweater over a fancy shirt and still looked like he’d make the diner men happy. He didn’t seem to understand that, though.

Maybe Daddy didn’t have a mirror?

Some characters in books didn’t understand how they looked either.

“Good job, naughty Daddy.” That had Daddy pressing his lips together and trying not to show me his silly side. “Hmm…what do I do with a naughty Daddy?”

I knew.

Ha.

I was so funny.

And smart.

“I don’t know but I’m slightly suspicious.” Daddy’s head popped out of his sweater and he looked like he knew I was being sneaky. He was smart too. “What do you do with a naughty Daddy?”

Distract him so he didn’t worry.

I was a good helper and I knew how to take care of my Daddy.

“Ask his limits because those are important.” I tried to look like Lorne when he was being sneaky because he never looked as naughty as he was. “What are your limits for bedtime, naughty Daddy?”

Had to hear those before I got him naked.

That was a big rule in the books but Kenzie didn’t seem to think that was important. His human friend said that was because Kenzie was naughty.

They were all naughty but I was a good boy who followed the rules.

Daddy huffed and made a laugh sound. “You’re very smart.”

So smart I didn’t look sneaky.

Ha.

“Well, I really want cuddles when we’re in bed, so I’m green on any kind of cuddles.” Daddy got thinky as I worked the silly human buttons that were tiny-tiny-tiny. “So to me that means I’m green with any touching you want to do.”

Hmm.

Oh.

I was so smart.

“There was a book where the boy didn’t like touches and so his Daddy wrapped him up in a sheet. That’s the thin blanket you use. Oh. The pretzel people don’t have those. I read that in a book too.” I learned sooo much. “Do you need to be wrapped up? We can use a blanket. Then you’d get cuddles but no touching naked parts.”

I was like a pretzel person and didn’t have a sheet either.

But I wasn’t human and didn’t always understand their mate stuff.

“I’m going to have to work on my responses because worrying about you is still the first thing on my mind.” Daddy frowned, then did his stand taller, straighten thing. “My boy knows how to safeword and will tell me what he’s thinking.”

Yep.

“’Cause that’s the rule.” Duh. Yes, that was a good sound word too. “I have to take care of you so that means I have to use my colors and my words.”

Until Daddy could read my mind and then we’d do that mostly.

That was what all the other mated couples did, so it would be fine.

“I’ve never had anyone in my life that mattered as much as you do, so it might take me a while to remember not to worry so much.” Daddy looked like he needed the “mates are always compatible” speech but he didn’t want to talk about mate stuff yet.

“Me mattering lots is why you don’t need to worry.” I needed to take Daddy on a date so we could talk about mate stuff. “I’m not silly or dangerous or scary. I don’t even threaten to eat people. I’m nice and I like rules.”

Daddy smiled and kissed my forehead. “You’re right. You are amazing and I’m glad you like rules. Life would be a lot more difficult if I had to worry about you eating my parents if they upset you.”

Sparkly dragons were dangerous, so I was glad I was the plain kind.

“You got to tell me family stories tomorrow, Daddy.” Yes. That was a good distraction while I took his shirt off. “I need to know funny stories because that will show them that I’m important.”

His chuckling sound made me smile but the way he slid his feet out of his shoes said he was already not worrying even more. “Well, considering I’ve never brought anyone home, they’re going to know you’re special to me.”
