“Oh God.”

“HARPER-RAYN! That is no way to greet somebody.”

“Tell me this isn’t happening,” I groan before speaking up a little louder. “Now’s not a good time, Mom. I’m gonna have to call you back.”

“Don’t you dare hang up on me,” she scolds. “I have been trying to call you for days. How dare you not tell me that you were attacked at work. I had to hear it from your brother.”

Knight’s fingers brush past the base of the vibrator, shifting it inside me, and I cry out, a deep, low groan rumbling through the back of my throat. “Fuuuuuuck.”

“Excuse me?” Mom scolds, her tone filled with horror. “What on earth is going on? If you were too busy to speak to your poor mother, then you shouldn’t have answered the call.”

“I didn’t. Siri did.”

“Who?”

“For fuck’s sake,” I cry, on the verge of breaking into heavy, uncontrollable sobs. “Mom, this really isn’t a good time. Please. I just . . . What do you need?”

“I need to know that you’re okay.”

“I’m fine.”

She scoffs. “I’m going to need more than that.”

“I’m fine,” I repeat. “I got stabbed. It wasn’t even that bad. My colleagues found me and rushed me into surgery. It was nothing, really. Jonah probably exaggerated. Really, it was more like a scratch.”

Knight scoffs from between my legs, and I bet he’s wishing he had Ace’s headlight right about now. He grunts as he plunges his fingers a little deeper, and I whimper at the feel of his knuckles pressing against my core. This isn’t exactly the most comfortable position I’ve ever been in, but I’m sure as fuck glad that it’s Knight’s fingers shoved up there and not Ace’s.

“A scratch?” my mother confirms. “Good, then you’ll be fine to attend dinner next Saturday night.”

“What? No.”

Knight pushes just a little harder, and his fingers finally find purchase on the base of the vibrator, giving it a hard tug to release it from the odd angle within me and sending my body spiraling out of control.

“You will not defy me, Harper-Rayn. I am your mother, and if I request your attendance for dinner, then you will show up and eat with a smile on your face. Is that clear?”

My whole body trembles as my orgasm reaches an all-time high. The intensity leaves me a spasming mess on the couch as Knight relentlessly battles the harsh vibrations of Little Red and finally frees it from within me. Only he tugs it so quickly that it slips right out of his fingers and flies against the wall. “Oh God, yes,” I breathe, letting out a deep sigh of relief.

“Good. Now, was that so hard?” my mother says. “Be there at seven, and don’t be late.”

And with that, she ends the call, leaving me gaping at Knight with my chest heaving. “What the fuck just happened?” I breathe, gasping for air as my walls tremble with aftershock, my legs flopping heavily down against the couch.

“I think,” Knight says, climbing up over me and pressing a kiss to my clammy forehead, “you just agreed to have dinner with your mother.”

“Shit,” I sigh. “That’s what I was afraid of.”

HARPER-RAYN

Well, Diesel was right about one thing: Ace hasn’t let me live down the Little Red incident. And no, I can confirm that my multiple intense orgasms didn’t strip the color off that thing. It did, however, leave me feeling as though I’d run ten marathons back to back. I’ve never been so physically exhausted in my life.

It’s only been a few days since my dignity was stolen by the devil vibrator, and since then, Ace has spent every waking moment sending me memes of tongs, stuffed turkeys, and vibrators having a mind of their own. And sure, it’s not ideal, but I could have handled it right up until he opened his big mouth and told Izzy about it.

Ace’s trolling is nothing compared to the fresh hell she’s been giving me. The woman can’t even say hello without bursting into hysterical laughter. But I get it. If the shoe were on the other foot, I would have done the same thing.

It’s first thing on Wednesday morning, and while most of the population is only just waking up to start their day, I’m currently dragging my feet down the hallway after a long night at work.

It was great. Work always is, apart from the time when my brain is telling me that the janitor is my murder-inclined masked stalker, and I spent an hour trapped inside the refrigeration unit, kept company by a bunch of dead bodies. It wasn’t exactly my finest moment. Either way, I had a great night. There’s nothing quite like getting into the zone and doing my thing.

We’re still trying to catch up from the four weeks I was off, but with me back on track, we’re quickly making up for lost time. I’ve been working my ass off. The only problem is, come the end of my shift, I’ve never been so exhausted. Hell, I love Knight and love every second I get to spend with him, but when he called to say he was heading into work, I was relieved. All I want to do is sleep. Don’t get me wrong, Knight would have insisted that’s exactly what I do, but I wouldn’t have. I would have rolled over in bed, snuggled into his chest, and before I knew it, I would have been rocking his world. It’s a serious issue.
