Something cool was draped over my forehead, and when I opened my eyes, Nicholas was standing above me. “Ice pack,” he explained. “Think you can swallow some meds without puking?”
I grimaced. “Not sure,” I confessed.
“I can give you a shot, but it’s going to make you sleepy and out of it,” he warned me. “You want that?”
“Yeah.” Anything to make this fucking pain go away. It was rare I got migraines, but when I did, they were damn near crippling. They tended to put me out of commission until it went away, and over the counter meds were an absolute fucking joke.
After administering the shot to me, he covered me with a warm blanket, adjusted the ice pack on my forehead, and then rubbed menthol rub onto my temples. I heard him washing his hands, and then, he was gripping my chin and softly kissing me. “Rest, baby. I’ll wake you when I’m done working, and we’ll go home.”
“Okay,” I whispered, leaning my face into his touch. He stroked his thumb over my skin, his wedding ring warm against my face. And within moments, I was passed out with my last memory being his lips on my skin.
