Storm let out a huff. “I’ll go and find Star.”

“When was the last time you had a bath, sweetheart?” she asked.

He shrugged. Morwenna felt her anger grow. Getting to her feet, she grabbed three donuts and made her way outside to the small park.

This didn’t hurt. She expected it to hurt, but the kids didn’t do anything wrong. They were just getting by with what they knew. There was a small picnic blanket on the ground, and the kids looked messy. The youngest was still in a diaper, and she smelled it the moment she got close. Handing each of them a donut, she offered them a smile.

“I’m Morwenna,” she said.

“Kyle.”

“That’s my name,” the little girl said.

She turned to the little girl. “Morwenna?”

“Yes, Daddy, I mean, Uncle Bolt, he said it’s a pretty name.” They all spoke in their childish way, but she could understand them.

Kyle was five, Morwenna four, and the baby was nearly two years old.

There was no pain as she looked at all three, and knew they were Bolt’s children.

“What the fuck are you doing?” Star asked, as she came storming across the parking lot.

Morwenna got to her feet, and Storm was not far behind.

“I was giving your children a donut.”

“You mean my and Bolt’s children.”

She knew that was meant to be a cruel jibe, and perhaps a few months ago, it would have hurt. Right now, it didn’t hurt. She was more disgusted with Star, as her lipstick was smudged. Her makeup was all smeared, and she was partly undressed.

“Fucking brats, get inside,” Star said, and she reached out as if to slap Kyle around the back of the head.

Morwenna grabbed her wrist. She didn’t believe in violence. She didn’t consider herself a violent person, but right now, looking at Star, she felt sick to her stomach. This was the woman Bolt had decided to waste nine years of marriage with.

Shoving her hand away, Morwenna said, “They need to be cleaned.”

“Are you going to let her talk to me this way?” Star asked Storm. “She is fucking nothing. I don’t see what he sees in you. Your nasty little cunt—”

She heard enough of the foul language. She stepped forward and grabbed Star around the throat. “Mommy is having a very grumpy day today, isn’t she?” She was close to Star so the kids didn’t see what she was doing. With her other hand, she’d wrapped her hair around her fist. “Mommy is saying all kinds of bad words, and I think it is time she and I have a little chat.”

Morwenna was the one in control, and she dragged Star, who had no choice but to follow her. Right at that moment, Bolt arrived in the clubhouse. He looked a little taken aback. The moment they were out of sight and hearing, she threw Star at his feet. “You take her the fuck away, get her cleaned up, and you teach that piece of trash how to have some manners. She has your children, the least she can do is start acting like she deserves them.”

Without another word, she turned on her heel and stormed away, making her way back to the kids. She forced a smile on her face and held her hand out to Kyle. Pulling the baby into her arms, she got little girl Morwenna to hold onto her jeans pocket, and she was aware of people looking at her, but she didn’t care. They needed to be taken care of.

Without another word, she made her way toward her truck and helped them all inside. Storm was already there with a car seat for her to strap the baby inside. The other kids didn’t have one, and she was going to rectify that as well.

“Morwenna, I can take care of them.”

“Why? Because you were doing so well before?”

“Morwenna?”

She held her hand up. “You know what? Save it. I get you not embracing them before I knew, because you were trying to keep his secret, but now, it’s just cold. They’re your grandkids, your flesh and blood, but you know what? They’re just kids.” She shook her head and climbed into Venom’s truck.

In the back of her mind as she drove away with Bolt’s kids, she didn’t know what the fuck she was doing. All she knew was, she couldn’t allow them to stay there. It wasn’t right, and Star wasn’t fair to the kids.

This was not because they were Bolt’s kids. It was because they were kids.

Venom was pissed off as he looked down at the ground at the local park and saw the signs of the drugs. The sheriff’s department had gotten a call, and that was extended to Maverick, and he asked him to chase it up.

More often than not, Dwellers Point Police Department was filled with drama when it came to details. They always wanted to point the finger at the club, or at drugs, or at something else.
