“Shouldn’t you be taking his side?” she asked.
“It would be a lot easier to take his side if we’d not heard him fucking her,” Venom said. “I can still have his back and not agree with the bullshit stunts he is pulling. What he’s doing and what he had done with Star, I don’t agree with.”
“I’m not wrong to think he’s ... unfair?” she asked.
“Fuck, no. How do you think he would react if the roles were reversed? He would be losing his shit. He would make you suffer.”
Morwenna took a bite out of her meatball sub. “He would.”
If she’d cheated on Bolt, there would be no end to it.
She continued to chew her food, and she couldn’t help but think about what Venom had said.
“This is a good sub.”
“That it is. I love food.”
“Do you think the club would still be happy with me ... you know, feeding them?” she asked.
“Sweetheart, they would be delighted. Trust me, the food is okay, but I am sick of ordering pizza, and it tastes like fucking cardboard.” He wrinkled his nose. “I’m desperate, but I have standards.”
She laughed. “Well, I guess the blog is sorted. I just need to find a place.”
“The first one you were telling me about, I think that might be a good match for you. It’s got one hell of a kitchen, and you left out the pamphlet for it.” He leaned across and pulled down the glove compartment, pulling out the pamphlet of the house she did actually like.
It was an old ranch house, about thirty minutes from town. That was not ideal, but it had a little land, which meant she could finally grow the vegetables she’d been wanting to grow. The ranch had everything she would need, but it wasn’t furnished, which she liked. The cost was reasonable. So far, it was her favorite, but her dad didn’t like how far from town it was. She loved it, and it was a chance to have a fresh start.
“Let me call the agent and see if they’re willing to let me look at it again.”

Several Weeks Later
“This is a big place,” Venom said.
“It’s a good size and I like it. Dad will be by later with my mom to drop off some of my other stuff.”
He couldn’t deny how happy Morwenna appeared to be. They went to see the ranch a few weeks ago, and the agent said it was still on the market, and they were looking for a buyer. Morwenna took one look around and said she’d take it. Since then, she’d been handling all the paperwork and talking with the bank. She knew exactly what she was doing. He wasn’t used to seeing a woman so in control, but then again, Storm was similar, and she was another old lady.
“The kitchen and dining room are a good setup,” he said.
“It’s all a good setup. I’m actually shocked no one has taken this off the market. It’s in a prime location. It looks amazing.”
“I think ‘prime location’ is stretching your reality a little. You’re in the middle of nowhere,” he said.
She chuckled. “Exactly, and that to me is a prime location. Although, I am a little nervous.” She nibbled her lip and moved toward the main dining room window.
He shouldn’t be curious, but when it came to Morwenna, he couldn’t seem to help himself.
“What are you nervous about?”
She let out a little laugh and shook her head. “Don’t worry about it. It’s silly.”
“You might as well tell me now, rather than wait for your parents to arrive. Your dad is always dead set against this, as you know.”
“Okay, fine, fine. It’s just that I’ve never in all my life been alone. I’ve lived with my parents and then I moved in with Bolt, and, well, you know I’ve never been on my own, and I hate to admit this because I’m nearly twenty-six, and it is just insane, but I’m kind of ... a little afraid of the dark,” she said. “And the only problem I see with this place is it’s going to be surrounded by darkness. I didn’t think about this when I took the place, and to be honest, I’ve not really thought about it until last night, my final night with my parents.”
“You’re afraid of being alone?” he asked.
“Yes, and I know that sounds crazy, but I ... this is why I don’t watch horror movies because my head just starts to go in all different directions—”
“It’s a pretty big house,” he said, cutting her off.
“You keep saying that and it’s not exactly helping.”
“How do you feel about having a renter?” he asked.
“A renter? Do you know someone who—”
“Me,” he said.
She was silent and he pretended to have a look around because the truth was, it wasn’t a bad place to live.
