“What she wants?” Declan laughs. “She wants us, Quaid. Look at her. She’s all hot and sweaty. Her cheeks are all pink from Aric making her come so hard. What she wants is more.”

“Give it a rest,” I say. Because apparently no one else is gonna stop him. Not even Star.

She’s looking at me now. Our eyes are locked. But she doesn’t object. Not to Declan’s outburst or the idea that I’m next.

Aric walks over to us, his dick having finally shrunk enough for him to begin stowing it away, and he just nonchalantly says, “All right, Declan, that’s enough. Let’s give these two kids some privacy. Quaid here seems to have sex hang ups. He’s not like us and doesn’t want an audience.” Declan is immediately protesting, but Aric just grabs his arm and pulls him over to the door where we initially came in. “We’re gonna check out the maze, Quaid. Be back in a few.”

And that’s what they do. They fuckin’ leave.

So… yeah. There’s no one here but Star and me.

She composes herself first, sitting up in the bed so she can give the pillows a good plump. “You might as well just go with it, Quaid.”

Which is typical, I guess. She’s one of ‘them’. A demigod with power, and secrets, and prophecies swirling around her like a little whirlwind in the desert. Oblivious to her special status and what makes us so different.

I don’t move. I’m just not sure what I’m doing here.

“Come on,” she says. Patting the bed next to her. “Take off your coat and shirt and just… try.”

“Try?” I scoff. “I don’t need to try anything. I’m not hesitating because I’m nervous, Star.”

“Then what is it?”

“You don’t like me. And this is just a job. I’m not…” But I falter here.

“You’re not what?” And the funny thing is, she’s not hostile, even though I’m definitely being belligerent with her. Her voice is soft and even.

“I’m not like them,” I say. “I’m not… one of them. I’m not one of you.”

“So you’re afraid that you’re gonna underperform?”

“Fuck’s sake, is promiscuous sex a trait with you fuckin’ demigods, or what? No, I’m not afraid of underperforming. I’m pretty confident my dick will satisfy you. I’m just a traditional guy. I’m… selective. I don’t pleasure myself with just anyone, OK?”

“So I’m not good enough for you?” Again, her rebuttal is not heated. Not meant as a challenge. She pats the bed again. “Come on. Tell me more. You can even keep your clothes on.” She points to herself. “Look, I’ve got mine on.”

Which is true, she’s fully dressed.

But just minutes ago, her tits were hanging out and Aric’s semen was all over her inner thighs.

“You’re not jealous, are you?”

I don’t say anything.

“Oh, my god, you are. Why? You don’t even like me. We’re supposed to have sex, or whatever, so we can get out of here.”

“And that’s OK with you?” I ask.

“Yes. But…” She hesitates.

“But? But what?”

“Well… I don’t know how long this is gonna last, but regardless, at this point in time, we’re all connected. And you’re definitely part of that connection, Quaid. And despite our initial hostility, I’m OK with the plan.”

“The plan. To use me for my glasses.”

“Wow. You have baggage.”

“Well, it’s true, isn’t it?”

She lets out a breath. “Am I pretty?”

“What?” I’m scoffing again.

“Am I pretty?”

“Do you need me to confirm that for you? Are you looking for me to pump up your ego? Because I’m pretty sure Declan does that enough for all three of us.”

“No. I’m asking if I’m your type, Quaid. Like… maybe you prefer blondes? Or taller chicks? I’m pretty short. Or perhaps my personality just doesn’t do it for you. That’s what I’m asking. Because if that’s the case, we can keep it professional. I won’t get attached. I’ll let you work me up just enough to get what we need, and then I’ll pull back. But if it’s not, Quaid, and we’re gonna be stuck together for the foreseeable future, then I’d like to mend the fence between us and allow it to go where it goes.”

Go where it goes? I squint my eyes at her. “Are you… picturing some kind of relationship between the four of us outside of this situation? Because, I’m not gonna be a part of that.”

“Why not? Because I’m not your type?”

“Well, first of all, I’m not a demigod. And you’re going back to Olympus with both of them,” I say, hiking my thumb to the door behind me. “Or one of them, at least. And I’m mortal. So…”

“Oh, I see. I guess I hadn’t thought of that.”

Which makes sense. She didn’t even know who she was when we found her. She still doesn’t know who she is, not really. Which means I’m maybe… possibly… being… unreasonable here.

“But what if you could come?”
