“Let me brush my teeth first,” I murmur. “Ugh. Why didn’t Casey tell me I’d be deathly ill all the time?”

Eric chuckles as he helps me to my feet. He then disappears. I brush my teeth and shakily make my way over to our bed. He waits with the ginger ale can and some peanut butter crackers. Despite the roiling in my tummy, I devour them eagerly. After a few sips of the drink, I feel normal again.

“I made pancakes,” he says with a grin. “Is my little princess hungry?”

“We don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl yet.”

“I have a hunch it’s a girl. Ma agrees.”

I roll my eyes but can’t help but smile at him. It warms my heart how close he and Mom have gotten. Their food truck business is popular, especially downtown. I swear they make all their money from ravenous lawyers rushing too and from court. Eric loves what he does.

“I’m going to laugh when we have a boy,” I tell him. “Are you going to cry when you’re wrong?”

He grunts and scoops me into his arms. I let out a squeal that has Frosty yapping angrily at us. Our dog doesn’t like when Eric picks me up to carry me down the stairs. Frosty is a grumpy old man but we love him anyway.

“I can walk, you know.” I kiss his scruffy cheek. This new beard thing he has going on is hot.

“You’re sick. Carrying my baby is rough on your body. Let me take care of you, sass.”

He always says heart melting stuff that makes me forgive him for getting me pregnant. Don’t get me wrong. I’m excited to have a baby with him, but I didn’t know I’d be so tired and sick all the time.

Again, where was Casey warning me off?

Once downstairs, he sets me on the counter. I watch my shirtless fiancé as he plates up breakfast for us. Frosty shows up and yips for something good to eat. Eric tosses a bite of bacon his way.

Warmth spreads from my head to my toes.

I’m happy. I didn’t know life could be this awesome.

“What time are you picking up Mom?” I ask as he feeds me a bite of bacon too.

“Not for an hour.” He kisses my nose. “What will you do while I’m working?”

Since it’s Saturday, hopefully nothing. “Probably go visit Casey and the baby. I need to practice.”

Eric snorts. “You’re going to do just fine.”

“How do you know?”

“Have you seen how you baby Frosty? He’s spoiled and loved beyond words. A baby—our baby—is going to really get the star treatment.”

Frosty yips in agreement. So cute.

Eric scoops him up and feeds him more bacon. “Isn’t that right, buddy? She’s going to be the best mommy ever, huh?” He kisses the dog until he squirms to be put back down.

“Come here,” I order.

Eric comes to stand between my legs and flashes me a dopey grin that makes my heart stutter. “Hey.”

“Hey.” I run my fingers through his hair and pull him to my lips. “Are you happy?”

He kisses me sweetly. “So fucking happy, sass.”

“Me too.” I nuzzle my nose against his. “I love you.”

“I love you more.”

Impossible.

I suppose we get to spend the rest of our lives proving to the other who loves who more.

What a wonderful life.
