I'm seeing a trend here. I toss my second ball, and it bounces right back out. Next, I make sure to hit the rim, and it swirls and slides down the wall of the bin and manages to stay.

"Yay!" Teddy starts to cheer for me, having bounced out the rest of her balls.

"Sorry, man." He points to the sign that says no rim shots. Motherfucker. He doesn’t even try to hide his smug smirk.

"Dang," Teddy huffs. "You got one more, but we've already got enough, so no biggie." She motions to all the stuffed animals we've won. Still, I don't miss the disappointment in her eyes. Teddy had been on a winning streak. Oh, it won't be ending. This guy's life may, though.

"Get my girl five more," I tell him, placing the tickets down. He goes to grab them for her. When he sits them down, I throw my ball right over the bins and curtain that has the stuffed animals hanging.

"You missed that by a mile." Teddy laughs, and I grunt a response.

"Let me go grab that. Don't throw yet," he tells her before taking off to go around the back in search of my ball.

"Bathroom," I tell her.

"I'll watch our babies," she jokes, motioning to the stuffed animals. I kiss the top of her head.

The bottom of the barrel is rigged to bounce. The first ball is a trap; the ball is already in there helping it stay.

I slip between the two tents and turn to follow behind the toothpick man. He's going to fix the rig, or he'll be the one at the bottom of a barrel tonight.

Chapter Thirteen

TEDDY

Ican’t help but giggle as I watch Killian push the luggage cart filled with all the stuffed animals and our bags. After he got us checked into the hotel, he didn’t want anyone messing with our bags. He gave the bellboy cash and told him he'd leave the cart in the hallway.

"This place is swanky," I say when he inserts the key into one of the double doors to our suite. I reach up and make sure I still have my crown on.

"Only the best for my queen. I saw your face when I suggested this place."

After I killed it on that last game, getting all five balls in, we called it a night. I think the man that was running that booth was bad luck. He was also terrible at his job. He abandoned it. After he went to grab the ball Killian had overthrown, he never came back!

Killian, the little daredevil, jumped over the booth thing, and he’d gone back and checked the bin to make sure I could throw my balls, and I nailed them all. Then he just grabbed one of the prizes.

It was best to leave on a winning streak, or before we got in trouble for Killian jumping the counter and grabbing my prize, but in all fairness, we paid for the balls, and I'd gotten them all in. It's not our fault their people take off in the middle of games. It's rude, and maybe we should have taken an extra unicorn. That would teach them a lesson.

Killian pulled up a handful of places we could stay for the night that were close. Grams and I used to go on these mini vacations to hotels. It was always so much fun doing a spa day and ordering room service. The thought makes me miss her.

"We can order room service and go to this spa." Killian unloads everything from the cart before pushing it back out into the hallway. I watch as he shuts the door and then jabs a metal thing into the hinge.

"What are you doing?"

"Keeping the door extra secure."

"Did you do that last night?"

"Yes." Oh, I must have missed it, but I can be aloof at times, especially if I'm excited.

"I forget you travel so much. You must have all these extra tips and tricks." He grunts his response, making me smile. Killian takes off his jacket, tossing it over a chair. "You're worse than me." I point to a spot on his shirt with a few small red drops. "You got ketchup on you." He pulls off his shirt and tosses it away, leaving him bare-chested. "Sweetheart." I let out a small gasp. "You have to warn a girl before you do that."

I can’t help the way my eyes roam over him. Not that I’m trying to, but still. Why does he have to be in such good shape? What will happen when the time comes that I need to remove my shirt?

"What?" Killian runs a hand down his bare chest. I motion with my hands at him.

"You're you, you know." He appears puzzled by what I'm getting at. Does he not know how hot he is? I've seen more than a few girls stare at him tonight. It annoyed me a couple of times until it was clear he wasn't paying them any attention. In fact, all of his attention was on me. "Crazy hot. You really don't know that?"
