I am not mad, Carina. I am definitely a vampire.
“Are you going to kill me? Drain my blood?” Carina scoffed bravely, but he could hear the underlying panic in her voice. She backed away and stopped when she ran into the dresser.
“Your demise is definitely not in my plans. You are my mate. I live now to protect and care for you. Do I seem so different to you now?”
She ignored his question. Lifting her hand, she whacked her forehead. “A vampire Daddy. I knew it couldn’t be real. You couldn’t be so perfect. Oh, God. I’m such a fool.”
The underlying despair in her tone cut him like a knife. He could hear her heart breaking. “I am very real, Little girl. Test it out. Hit, kick, or kiss me.”
“Stake you?” she taunted, showing him a bit of her fire.
Her response gave him hope. The strong will of his mate showed as she straightened to face him fully. What he shared with her was hard to believe, but she listened and challenged him.
“I’d prefer not.” Marcus struggled to control the smile that threatened at her horror-movie-fueled suggestion. Staking was another of the simplistic myths about vampires designed to reassure the populace that an easily available weapon could defeat a much more powerful being.
“I think you should leave,” she told him.
No. We are linked together, Carina. You are mine. Come here, Little one.
She took three steps forward before stopping to glare at him. “You can’t use your vampiric mind control to force me to do what you wish.”
“I could, but that would not help. Listen to your heart, Carina. What is it saying to you?”
She lifted her hands to press them to her chest. Her gaze locked with his. Marcus gradually shifted his eyes to their original green. He filled their mental link with love and passion, his excitement in finding her, and his desire to care for her as his Little girl. Carina clinched her fingers tighter as he showed her images of a beautiful nursery and the two of them having a Little tea party.
“We are linked in many ways, Carina. My body craves you. My heart knows you belong to me. And my dominance recognizes you as the special Little girl I need to complete me. Please do not turn your back on what we can be together.”
“But.…” Her voice trailed off as her gaze focused on his fangs.
“Be brave, Little girl. Trust me.”
“I don’t understand. My heart tells me you’re my Daddy, but my mind wants me to run,” she whispered.
“Say it again, Little girl,” he commanded.
“What?” Her eyes focused on a space over his shoulder. Marcus suspected she was replaying her statement. “Daddy?”
Before the treasured title had emerged completely through her lips, Marcus hugged her tightly to him. He silenced her gasp at his sudden motion as he kissed her deeply. Carina stiffened for a fraction of a second before her mouth moved under his, returning his urgency with her own. Her arms looped around his neck as she rubbed herself against him.
Never releasing her from his embrace, Marcus backed up slowly until his calves brushed the side of her bed. He held her securely against his strength and fell backward onto the mattress. Carina spread her legs, bracketing his hips with her knees.
Marcus groaned as her heat rested directly on his aching cock, challenging his determination to be gentle. He clasped his hands around her hips and ground her pussy against his rigid shaft. Erect since he found her, Marcus had never experienced such hunger as he felt toward his mate. He found the hem of her soft nightgown and tugged it up to grip her bottom once again.
Tell me you want me, Carina.
She hesitated for a split second before whispering against his lips, “Make love to me, Daddy. I’m yours.”
A groan of delight rumbled from his chest. She’d acknowledged him. Marcus swept his hands farther up her back, sweeping her nightgown with him. “If you treasure this garment, take it off, Carina.”
She looked down at him and bit her lip. Slowly, she shook her head.
He ripped the material and swept the pieces from her body, revealing the beautiful curves he’d forced from his thoughts during his shift at Nightfall. Alone at last with his mate, Marcus would reward her bravery.
Chapter

Carina loved the flash of heat in his eyes. She gasped when he spun their entwined bodies around so he pinned her to the mattress. Feeling small and fragile under him sent a thrill through her. She rubbed her hands over his powerful chest and shoulders, savoring the hard strength of his muscles. She needed to touch his skin.
Grabbing a handful of his T-shirt, she ordered, “Off. I get to see you too.”
“So demanding,” he chuckled as he rose to his feet.
Marcus loomed over her, and his gaze traveled over her. The hunger on his face both frightened and aroused her. Being with him was a thrilling risk. He watched her like she was the most desirable woman on earth. Reassured that he would never harm her, she pushed her doubts away. Poking at the darker part of him, Carina stroked a hand up her torso slowly and trailed her fingers between her breasts. His growl of arousal made her smile.
