Bradley scrambled to get to his feet, and he wasn’t able to get far as he came at him and grabbed him by his hair. He did what he saw him do to Harper, and slapped him hard, only the brass knuckles were able to do a lot more damage. Enzo was pretty sure he saw a tooth fly out of the man’s mouth. He let go of his hair and pulled him to his feet.

“If you ever go into my home again and hurt her, I will come for you. I will make you pay.” He pulled back his fist and slammed it into his gut. Drawing back, he punched him in the face.

With every passing second, his anger was getting the better of him. All he could see was how helpless Harper had been, and the fear. She was clearly used to being hit by her father, and that just made him even more angry.

The arm that had the cast on, Enzo grabbed, pulled, and then slammed it down against his knee. Bradley started to scream. The bone had snapped. There was no puncture wound so he’d not broken skin.

He grabbed Bradley’s hair and pulled hard. He drew back his fist, so he could see.

“What are you not going to do?” he asked.

“I didn’t do anything,” Bradley said. “She’s a liar.”

“I watched you. You think I don’t see everything? I watched you tamper with my security. I watched you shove open my fucking door, and I watched you hit her. Don’t fucking lie to me.” He was enraged and there was no way he was coming down from it. This bastard had invaded his home.

Bradley had set out to hurt Harper. What kind of monster fucking does that? Especially a father? He was sickened by him. The very thought of Harper being alone with this piece of shit for eighteen years was just too much.

He brought his fist down and punched Bradley so hard, he knocked him out with the first try.

Enzo was no coward. He didn’t hit men while they were down. Right now, he couldn’t kill Bradley, but he could certainly hurt him. He shoved the man with his toe, and of course Bradley didn’t wake up.

Enzo took a deep breath and straightened his jacket. Pulling off the knuckle duster, he shoved it into his pocket and then preceded to make his way downstairs. A couple of guards were waiting for him.

“He’s upstairs. I want him disposed of in the street, far from here. Clothes removed so that he has to make it home naked. Am I understood?” he asked.

Both guards nodded, and he looked toward the woman and gave her a nod, to which she did the same to him.

He left the brothel, climbed into his car, and drove back home. He unlocked the security gate and drove forward, waiting for it to close before he drove the small distance up the long driveway.

His hands shook with anger. Tonight, he should have killed Bradley Taylor, but he had to wait for Marcus Villa to give the fucking order. Bradley was actually worth something, in his desperation to seek a title. He got jobs done that many could not. He could beat the ever-living shit out of him, but there was no way he was going to be able to outright kill him.

Running a hand down his face, he made his way inside his home, locking the door. At the sound of noise coming from the kitchen, he walked toward it, pulling his gun from out of his pants, only to quickly put the safety back on, and put the gun away.

Harper was in the kitchen, and she stood by the counter with a large carton of ice cream open and a spoon already coated in ice cream.

“Hey,” she said.

“You’re awake.”

“And you left.”

“I had to take care of some business.”

Harper looked at him and nodded. The bruising had started to come out, and her lip looked painful. This just made him wish he’d actually hit him a second time. That first time had knocked the bastard out cold.

“I missed you,” she said.

Enzo went to her and delicately cupped her face. “How are you?”

“I’m fine.”

“Is it sore?”

Her tongue peeked out, and he watched her wince. “A little bit.”

He sighed.

“It’s fine.”

“I didn’t kill him tonight.”

She looked at him. “Okay.”

“Do you wish I had?”

Harper had tears fill her eyes, and as they started to fall, he wiped them away. “Does it make me a bad person because I wish you had?”

“No, not to me. To others, it might, but they don’t fucking matter.”

She pressed her head against his chest, and he held her close. He would do whatever he could to protect her.

Chapter Ten

Harper knew this was a setup from the start.

The moment Marcus Villa came to Enzo’s home, at just the right moment, when he’d left the house from a frantic call, she had known it wasn’t going to end well. This was Villa putting her in her place.
