Haidyn pulls out his cell and scrolls through it for a second before holding it out. “You sent me this video. We need to find the woman.”
Tanner frowns. “Why? Don’t you have Hudson? Just ask him.” He, too, is in the video with the woman, walking around the Airport.
“Can’t.” Haidyn shakes his head.
“Did you kill him already?” Trey, the youngest of the brothers laughs.
“Nope, but I ripped his eyes out. He can’t see shit. And when I asked, he refused to cooperate.” Haidyn grunts.
“You ripped his eyes out and he survived?” Trey sounds impressed.
“Very fortunate, I know.” Haidyn smiles proudly.
“Why is she important?” Turner, the middle brother, takes a look at the video.
“She was a Queen,” Titan answers. “A few years back.”
“She’s also my assistant,” Hooke adds. “Has been for two years now. As far as I knew, she didn’t know the Lords existed. Then she gets spotted with one in Vegas…” He shakes his head. “We’re missing something.”
“Technically, Hudson isn’t a Lord,” Saint reminds him.
“Close enough.” Hooke huffs. “Whether he had been initiated or not, he was still working for them.”
“Maybe she was working that weekend?” Turner offers.
“No,” Titan says. “All bookings for Queens go through me. She knows that.”
“Maybe he offered her a bonus to keep it hush-hush. Old client who wanted to meet up? I’m sure it happens.” Trey shrugs and adds, “You can clearly tell she’s working.”
Titan runs a hand through his hair, not wanting to argue because it could be possible.
Hooke speaks. “That’s an option, but she told me she was coming here for a photo shoot.”
Tanner sits back, crossing his arms over his chest. “What kind of photo shoot?”
“It was for a magazine. The photographer was Harvey something.” He waves his hand in the air.
The Mason brothers exchange a look, and Hooke steps forward and barks, “Fucking speak.”
Tanner stands and Haidyn grabs Hooke’s upper arm to pull him back from the table. “We’ll check the cameras. Do a facial recognition, but it could take a few days.”
“We’ll wait,” Saint tells them.
“What exactly are we looking for?”
Hooke sighs because that’s an open question. “If she was with one Lord, I’m assuming she knows others.” He shrugs. “I’d look through footage before and after the date that she was here with Hudson.”
Tanner nods. “We’ll keep you updated.”
FORTY-ONE
EVERETT
“Charlotte?” I tap her shoulder.
“Hmm?” She opens her heavy eyelids and looks up at me.
“The movie is over.”
She pushes out her bottom lip. “I slept through the entire thing?”
I chuckle. “Yeah. You obviously needed it.” The pregnancy is draining her in more ways than one.
We get back to the living room of the suite, and I notice Ashtyn has a little more pep in her step than usual.
I’m exhausted and Charlotte can barely keep her eyes open. “Good night, girls,” Charlotte says through a yawn before disappearing into her room.
I enter our room and plop down on the bed. I pull up Kashton’s contact on my cell and press Call. He answers immediately.
“Hey, angel.” I ignore the way my heart flutters at the nickname. “We’re about to head back to Kingdom—”
“Does Titanic mean anything to you?” I interrupt him.
He’s silent, and I wonder if he’s stepping away from the guys. “Titanic?” he finally asks, but this time he’s lowered his voice, only proving my suspicions.
“Yeah. The movie. Does it mean anything to you?” For three hours, I sat there trying to figure out what the fuck she meant by her favorite part. She wanted Charlotte and me to know that for a reason. Even though Charlotte had already passed out.
“No.”
“Think the first thing that comes to mind when I say it. Titanic. Movie. Jack and Rose. Cherry sucker,” I rattle off, rolling onto my back and staring up at the ceiling.
He’s silent long enough that my pulse begins to race. I sit up and clench the cell in my head. “What does it mean to you, Kash?”
“The movie means nothing to me,” he whispers. “It’s nothing.”
It’s the same thing he said when I asked if I should be jealous that he’s slept with Ashtyn. He’s lying to me. “What does it mean to Ashtyn?” I reword the question.
“Everett.” He sighs, and I know I’m not wrong.
I’ve never had a boyfriend—or even been in a relationship, for that matter—but I imagine if I ever did, I’d be the girl who would need to know everything he did with the girl before me. And although Ashtyn wasn’t his girlfriend, she was in his life. Probably more than a typical girlfriend would be. Her twin brother was their best friend. They were all inseparable, and I need to know what significance this fucking movie holds for her. And why was she shoving it in my face? I’m no threat to her. I don’t want her husband, and neither does Charlotte.
His refusal to answer tells me all I need to know. “Good night, Kash.”
