I blush and melt. Yep, this is why I married this big, crazy cowboy. Because he always says the sweetest things to me.
Dinner with Aunt Elaine and Vale goes by too fast. They’ve only been here four hours, and it still feels like they just arrived. I’ve settled back at the table after serving everyone a big slice of chocolate cake to go with their coffee.
I send Bronco a look. He seems to know exactly what I want to do, because he gives me a nod. He takes my hand in his. Our fingers intertwine underneath the table, and I’ll never get tired of holding hands with the man that’s my best friend.
“I have something to tell you both,” I say. “I’m pregnant. It’s really early on. You can’t tell anyone yet.”
“Oh, sweetie! That’s amazing news!” My aunt abandons her cake to come around the table and pull me into a big hug.
Meanwhile, Vale claps Bronco on the shoulder and calls him a bastard for making him an uncle so soon, but it’s obvious there’s pride in his gaze. He’s excited about his soon-to-arrive niece or nephew.
It’s so wonderful to have family to celebrate with. I don’t know whether we’re having a boy or a girl. But I do know that our child will be one of the most loved kids in the whole world.
Later, after Aunt Elaine and Vale have left, Bronco puts an arm around my shoulders and a hand on my tummy. Then he looks at me, tears in his gaze. “Thank you for giving me the best gift ever.”
I burrow closer to him and press a soft kiss to his neck. “It wasn’t a one-woman show. I seem to recall a very bossy cowboy was present.”
He chuckles as I gaze out into the night sky. There’s so much good to celebrate. So many amazing things that are still on the horizon for our family. I can’t wait to watch it all unfold.
