In every angle. Every shimmer of light. I hear him in every laugh and feel his love swelling each time I embrace them.
When the back door opens, I turn, facing my husband. He’s let his hair grow out in recent years, a silver beard that makes him even more handsome. His eyes, as usual, move to my swollen pregnant belly.
“You’re even more beautiful when you’re pregnant,” he told me last night as our hands devoured each other.
Our lust has never faltered, not once … and he’s not lying. Since getting pregnant, it’s like he’s wanted me even more. Something I wouldn’t have thought possible until I felt his possessive lips all over my body.
“Daddy!” Miska cries, climbing out of the pool. “Is our baby brother here yet?”
Tasha’s not far behind. “Tell him, Daddy. We’re going to have a sister, right?”
Lex smiles at me. His eyes glisten with a thousand unspoken things. Ever since those first crazy few days—days which, in hindsight, pass the bar for magical—our love has deepened. Become firmer, a solid foundation which has flowered into an adventurous and fulfilling life.
Wrapping one arm around me, Lex leans down lightly so he can hug the twins at the same time. They cling to him, then Mishka gently hugs me. He’s always so careful with my belly.
“Whatever he or she is,” Lex says, “we’re just so lucky to have another member of the family.”
Tasha makes a sobbing sound. “I love you both so much, Mommy, Daddy, I just want to cry.”
Tears of pure joy flow down my face.
Lex leans over. “I know the feeling, sweetheart.” He kisses the tears from my cheeks.
“My turn, Daddy!” Tasha sings.
Lex chuckles and picks his daughter up, then Mishka gestures with his little arms and Lex scoops him up too.
My heart beats warmly as another perfect evening stretches ahead of us.
The End
