Courtney stirs in my arms and turns around with a smile on her face, her eyes still half closed.

“Good morning, you,” she whispers as she looks at me. “Are you crying?”

I wipe my eyes, embarrassed. This is the last thing I want her to see.

She cups my cheek with her hand and kisses me softly with her lips closed. “It’s going to be okay,” she whispers. “I’m here with you now.”

I’ve been living with my psychotic bear for so long that I know those words shouldn’t bring me hope. They shouldn’t be comforting, but they are. With her in my arms, I don’t know how things could ever go wrong again.

We lay like this, gazing into each other’s eyes and holding each other tight for a long time. Until the soreness kicks in and she starts to move around, stretching out her stiff muscles.

“Was it too cold for you last night?” I ask.

She smiles. “You’re the one with no shirt on.”

“But I’m used to it. You’re used to a nice warm bed.”

“I’m used to an empty bed. This was really nice.”

I watch as she sits up and stretches her back out. My cock starts to stir once again when I see her breasts being thrust into the air. I still can’t believe that my hands were on them, that my lips and tongue were touching that soft supple skin.

Remembering how wet and tight she was as the soft walls of her pussy squeezed my cock starts to make my breath quicken. I still can’t believe her virginity is mine.

Thinking those dirty thoughts awakens my bear and he starts to stir angrily.

No, please, I beg.

He growls low.

Mark her.

Do it.

He snarls, louder this time, but not loud enough for her to hear. He wants me to sink my teeth into her neck and make her ours for good.

He won’t be truly at peace until I do it, but that’s one way to have her run out of here and never come back. She’s a real champ, showing up in the woods at night and sleeping out here with someone she’s never met before, but even she would draw the line if I leaned over and gave her the vampire treatment before she’s had a cup of coffee.

Not now, I growl back at him.

He starts pacing around and for the first time since he let me out, I start to get nervous. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to stop him if he comes charging out. I’ve never been able to stop him before.

“I need a hot bath,” she says as she turns and looks at me.

“Are you hungry?” I ask as I try to focus on her and not on the angry bear huffing around inside me.

“Do you have anything for breakfast?” she asks, looking hopeful. “My appetite is ravenous after that night.”

Panic mode sets in as I think about my options. I could go catch her a rabbit or something. A rabbit? Come on, Adrian! Cooking her a dead rabbit is not very romantic.

“We can go see what my brothers are cooking,” I blurt out, not really thinking about it.

“Yeah? Are you up for that?”

I nod my head even though my stomach is twisting with nerves. Besides the two seconds I saw them last night, it’s been years. And I don’t know how they feel about me. I haven’t exactly been the warmest brother lately.

“For you, I am.”

We climb out of the tent and she grins as she looks at me. I’m barefoot, shirtless, with only the loose jeans I stole from Cameron on.

“It’s freezing out,” she says, “and you don’t even have goosebumps on your skin.”

She takes the opportunity to run her hand down my chest and abs.

“There they are,” she says with a laugh as I get goosebumps on my arms. “But I don’t think they’re from the cold.”

She slides her hand into mine and we start walking toward the cabins. A falcon glides through the air high above us, looking for its breakfast.

“You don’t have school today?” I ask.

She smiles as she looks up at me. “You don’t know what day it is?”

“I don’t know what month it is.”

God, that smile… It kills me every time.

“It’s Saturday, so no little kids for me today. And it’s October by the way.”

I get a fluttery feeling in my stomach when I hear noises coming from Julian’s cabin. They all seem to be gathered in there for breakfast. I hear Logan’s deep laugh.

The smell of bacon, eggs, and coffee hits my nose and the nervous butterflies get replaced with a hunger for human food. How long has it been since I tasted anything cooked?

“These are your brothers?” Courtney asks as we walk.

I nod. “Cameron is the oldest, then me, then Julian. Logan is Cameron’s age. He’s adopted, but just as much of a brother as any of us.”
