Kyle looked exactly like Bolt when he was five years old.
Bolt had a five-year-old son.
Star’s son.
She pressed a hand to her chest as she felt her heart racing. How could this be happening? This was so not fair, and she hated how childish that sounded. This was not how life was supposed to be.
Star had three kids, and she had a horrible feeling all three of those kids were Bolt’s. Her husband had three children with another woman, and she didn’t have a single child. Did that mean there was something wrong with her? She swiped at her tears.
“Shit, crap, I’m sorry.”
Morwenna lifted her head to see Venom heading toward her. He had a wrapped package in his hand, and he hesitated as she looked up at him.
“It’s okay. If you want to stay, you can stay. If you want to leave and pretend you didn’t see this, I’m okay with that as well.”
“Are you okay?” he asked.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Quite peachy, really. Just found out my husband has a five-year-old son with another woman, and probably two other kids.” She let out a laugh. “You know, I always thought it was really sweet of him, that he’d go out of his way to buy the kids presents every year for Christmas. I thought it was his soft and sensitive side, but no, that was just Daddy being a daddy.” She looked down at her lap and sniffled.
Tears fell onto her hands. She hated herself. Bolt was being a good dad, but it wasn’t to their own children. Is that why he strayed? He didn’t want to have kids with her?
Venom didn’t walk away, he sat down beside her, unwrapped his package, which she saw was a couple of burgers and a large portion of fries covered with cheese sauce and lots of bacon.
“You’re hungry?”
“Starving. You want to share?” he asked, offering her a fry.
“I’m good.”
“Please try it, there is no way I can accept that anyone can turn down a fry covered in bacon and cheese. I just can’t accept it.”
This made her laugh, so she took the fry from him. “You’re right, it does taste good.”
“That’s because there is nothing better than cheese and bacon in a recipe. I refuse to believe otherwise.”
“Thank you.”
He scootched in closer to her and laid the cheese-and-bacon-soaked fries on both their laps. “I’m not greedy.”
She laughed, stole another fry, and kept eating. Venom surprised her by offering her one of his burgers.
“You bought them for yourself,” she said.
“Yeah, and you’ve clearly not eaten, so it’s time for you to eat. Like I said, I’m not greedy, and I’m A-okay to share.”
She smiled and rather than argue with him, she took the burger from him, took a large bite, letting out a little moan as she did so. “That’s good. That’s really good.”
There was a lot of cheese, more bacon, and onions.
“Did this get made up for you, or did you tell them how to make your burger?”
“I told them, please, vendors always skimp on the cheese, the onions and bacon, even though they charge you a stupid amount for it. I was not going to be turned away.”
She found her tears dried up around Venom, and it was nice distraction. “Thank you,” she said.
“Don’t mention it.” He gave her a nudge with his shoulder.
She took a bite out of the burger and moaned. “Okay, you’re going to have to tell me how exactly you get people to do this for you. That is amazing,” she said.
“It’s all in the look. People are afraid of me.”
“For good reason, Venom. You’re a scary guy.”
“I know and I’m proud of it, but it helps.”
“Maybe you could help me create a look?” she asked.
“Some looks are created out of experience. Hurt a couple of people, it might help.”
She wasn’t even afraid of him. Did that make her an idiot? Venom had killed people, and he’d not been ashamed to hide it. She knew he had a rough past. She knew the club was not all sunshine and rainbows. Bad shit happened. Bolt told her bad shit went down, and that was why he was covered in bruises and also had a few bullet holes.
She was loyal. The club had been her family, and there was no way she would ever go to the cops. Although her father was military, it could be hard at times, but her father had always said the military was his family, and he would never turn his back. Evil Dwellers MC was her family as well.
“I think it was brave what you did,” she said, turning to look at Venom. “They were hurting animals.”
“And they died for it,” Venom said. “Trust me, that scum doesn’t even deserve a gravestone. Are you feeling all right now?”
She glanced at him, then turned away. It was on the tip of her tongue to lie, but she didn’t want to. “No, I’m not okay.”
