As Dev stood there, he let the quiet and Cash’s presence ease some of the tension that had formed from his parents’ latest epic battle. The quiet was bliss.

“I’m officially moving into your building in the apartment below yours,” Shanna said.

“You’re payin’ rent,” Dev spouted, not caring about the rest of it. His backup security protector was a slip of a girl who had spent most of her life wanting to end him. For sure, the feds were paying for her stay. “Price went up twenty-five percent. Extenuatin’ circumstances. I believe it’s in the contract.”

Shanna laughed as if he were ridiculous. When he started to explain just how serious he was, his mother came through the patio door, like a housewife from the 1950s, carrying a tray of coffee cups on saucers. “Cash, I let it go for this long, but now I need to understand how you two connected with each other after all these years. Come have some coffee.”

His mother’s doe-eyed look directed at the pretty boy completed the multiverse dimension he felt he shifted to. His two little girls were dressed like a Gap commercial, sister and boyfriend were by his side, and his mother acted like a reincarnated June Cleaver.

What had happened to his life?

And why the fuck did this look so damned appealing.

Chapter 32

“You wear the necklace like this,” Joe corrected, reaching for the weighted skull at the base, turning it forward as if Dev were a complete moron. It wasn’t his fault the camera shifted when he moved. Dev scowled down at the agent, fiddling with the piece of clearly faulty surveillance equipment.

“If I move and it turns, what’s good about that?” he asked, envisioning a million different ways this could go wrong.

“Yeah. Be careful then. We added this patch,” Joe said, reaching for the cut and handing it to Dev, nodding for him to put it on. Right when he was about to blast the kid for touching his cut, much less daring to suggest he’d alter the once sacred garment, he looked down at the patch. His eyes narrowed at the intricately styled insignia patch with the numbers 666 embroidered on top in thick red yarn. The patch represented the beast inside him. A perfect representation.

“Why’ve I never thought of it?” Dev asked, rubbing his fingertips over the raised design.

“Be careful touching it,” Joe said, then used his shirt sleeve to wipe over the patch. “The circle in the middle of the six is a recording device. Cash had it made for you. We tried to make it look weathered. It still looks new to me, but it represents your devilman.”

The mark of his beast. Who’d turned informant. Gotcha. Great.

His stomach twisted. Until tonight, he could mentally pretend to only be playing along with Cash, waiting for his out. That time had passed. Now he was planning to take an undercover agent into sacred territory.

If he ever found out one of his brother’s had turned this way, he’d have no problem ending his life.

His own father would lead the pack to end Dev’s.

“Why am I recordin’ anything if Cash is with me?” Dev asked, searching for a way out.

“Anytime you’re out in the world, you’re required to have surveillance equipment on you. It’s part of the agreement you made,” Cash said in a professional tone, strolling through the front door of Dev’s apartment.

“You need to fuckin’ knock. It’s still my private space to live,” Dev shot out angrily. Cash lifted a fist to knock on the open door. “You’re a dick.”

Cash rolled his eyes.

“Is he ready?” Cash asked, ignoring Dev’s comment.

“Yup,” Joe answered, turning in such a way to include Cash. “Wear the vest…” Dev gave him a brutal look. “The cut,” Joe corrected, hands held up in apology. “Wear the cut the entire time. It’s our best vantage point. I’ll be monitoring and recording everything.”

He allowed himself the slow perusal up and down Cash’s body, hoping to make the agent as uncomfortable as Dev’s cock was now inside his fitted jeans.

In an ever-changing world of different looks, Cash had shifted again. The clean and shiny was still there, but now it was masked underneath a layer of darkness. Tight black jeans, a fitted black button-down left open a couple of buttons on the top and the bottom. He wore black chains around his neck and wrists. Black boots on his feet. Dev bet the slight heel on the bottom lifted Cash’s already tight ass. He vowed to find that answer out for himself.

Dev slid his gaze up to Cash’s hair. Today, it wasn’t styled. Instead, he wore silky waves pushed off his face. That had to be his natural hair. Cash was a gorgeous man.

Further pissed off and now even more disagreeable, he swept his gaze down in an overt inspection. Two hardened nipples poked against the material of his shirt. Then he went lower, to the outline of Cash’s cock in those snug jeans, positioned perfectly for anyone who was willing to look. Which Dev certainly was.
