“Hennessy is relentless when it comes to you. It’s how I know I’ll get a good price.” He grins like a loon.

“Patrick, you d—”

I don’t finish my words. The room goes completely dark. I don’t think I just get low and run. I scream when I’m knocked forward and a hand wraps my ankle. I kick out with the other foot, trying to get free.

Oh God, please don’t let this be my life. It can’t end like this.

Clayton

Grim nods when the lights are cut. Reap is already in motion, leading the way with a gun almost as big as her. Brick is to my right, coiled to put this motherfucker down. We all have on heat-seeking goggles to navigate through the apartment.

I was so relieved to find them in front of the apartment building when we arrived. What I wasn’t happy to find was my fifty-two-year-old doorman knocked unconscious behind the front desk with a goose egg on the left side of his head.

We all snapped into action. I was pissed to find the two guards I left with Sid knocked out on the top floor. It was then we decided to come in through the second level.

I’ve been losing my mind with each word this piece of shit Dupont has spoken while we prepared to move in. He’s about to get the surprise of his life. Everyone has orders not to kill unless absolutely necessary. I have plans for this son of a bitch.

I look to my left quickly to find Wade. I still haven’t processed everything he’s told me. I’m not even sure I want to. Although in the back of my mind, him being here means something. It means a lot.

Sid’s loud scream piercing the air hones in my focus. I move quickly in the direction of Sid’s voice. I can make out Dupont’s hand wrapped around Sid’s ankle while she kicks out frantically.

That’s my girl, always a fighter.

From the height of the heat print alone, I know it’s Reap who slams the butt of her gun into the back of Dupont’s head. He goes limp and Sid scrambles back away from him.

I rush to her side, wrapping my arms around her. She begins to thrash against me. I restrain her arms, pulling her in closer to my chest.

“Shh, precious, it’s me,” I coo. “I’m here, baby. You’re safe.”

“Clay?” she sobs, sagging into me.

“Yes, it’s me. We got him, baby. I’m going to put an end to all of this now,” I whisper, kissing the top of her head.

“Okay.” She nods, clinging to me.

I can still feel the rage in my bones from seeing Sid’s swollen face. It took me almost two hours to get her to calm down enough to go to sleep. Even then, it was because my father arrived, promising to stay with her while I was gone.

If I didn’t have more important things to focus on, I would’ve wrapped my hands around his neck and thrown him out on his ass. That’s some shit I’ll have to deal with later. Though in the back of my mind, I keep wondering how much my mother knows about this.

The revving of motorcycle engines pulls my attention back to the warehouse we’re in. I look at the piece of shit in the middle of the four bikes surrounding him. Vault, Brick, Grim, and Reap are mounted on their bikes.

Dupont’s limbs are chained to the back wheel of each of their machines. They’re just waiting for my signal. You fuck with my money, I’ll kill you and make it quick and easy. Fuck with my family, I’ll make you feel the pain. Fuck with my Sid, I’m going to send you to hell in the most painful and slow way I can.

“No, no, no,” Patrick Dupont screams. “Don’t do this. Please.”

I take a drag from my cigar and blow it out slowly. “I wonder, did Fran get a chance to beg for her life?” I tilt my head, looking down at this filth.

“She was trying to destroy your life. I did you a favor,” he bellows, spit flying from his mouth.

“A favor I never asked for,” I scoff.

“Please, I’ll disappear. You’ll never hear from me again,” he pleads.

I chuckle, taking another drag of my cigar and moving out of the way. I nod at Brick. He revs his bike three times to give the signal. Reap throws her head back and laughs as she takes off. The three men drive forward with cold looks in their eyes.

Dupont’s screams fill the air as he’s ripped apart limb by limb. He’s still screaming as I walk over to his limbless body. I clamp my cigar between my teeth, lifting my .45, I don’t pull the trigger right away. I let him scream and suffer.

I pull the trigger, putting a bullet in his kidney. It’s not nearly enough to please me. None of this is. He put his hands on my fucking wife. He’s been trying to get her locked up for almost two years. I don’t even care about the shit he helped Fran try to do to my life.
