“I’m not done, don’t move,” he commands.

I watch after his sexy bare back as he makes his way into the house. I’m curious, but I stay put just as he tells me to. I’m not ready for this bubble to burst just yet.

Clayton

I grumble to myself as I walk into the beach house. I’m pissed that we’re being interrupted, but I know it must be important if someone is calling the landline.

I reach the phone and pick it up. “Hello.”

“Clay, are you sitting, buddy?” Vault replies.

“No, I was about to make a baby. I can’t sit. My dick is rock hard. What do you want?”

“Your dick won’t be hard for long. Fran Baker was found dead…in your office.”

“What?” I roar.

“Her body was found in your office at Dream. Everything about this stinks. The coroner said she was dead for two days before she was discovered.”

“Two days? Cane is supposed to be acting as GM during my honeymoon. Where the fuck has he been?”

“According to the cameras, here doing his job. We have footage of workers coming in and out of here with no problem. Cane, the cleanup crew.”

“I hear a but.”

“But sometime last night, there was a gap in the video footage. It was long enough to drop a body off and be gone.”

“So why are you calling me?”

“I’m sorry, man. It’s your club, your office, your problematic past, a dead body in your office. They want you to come in for questioning.”

“This is fucking ridiculous,” I roar. “I’ve been here on my fucking honeymoon.”

I’m not going back to New York until I’m good and damn ready. This bullshit has nothing to do with me. I don’t care where the body was dropped.

I fold my arms across my chest and work my jaw, hoping Vault feels my energy through the phone. Then he speaks the words that will fuel me and the jet to get out of here.

“Yeah, but your wife is on some footage, in Fran’s face, and there’s an eyewitness who says Sid was threatening Fran in the video. Clay, come back before this gets out of hand. I’ll have you guys in and out.”

It feels like my head is about to explode. “Fuck.” I hang up the phone, not even bothering to answer.

This shit can’t be happening.

Chapter 42

Time to Talk

Clayton

I’m still in shock. I don’t know how I feel about all of this. There was once a time when this news would have brought a smile to my face, or at least I thought it would have. Not today.

We cut the honeymoon short after receiving Vault’s call. Once I was able to calm down, I called him back for more details. I’m still fuming.

I’d like to know how the fuck someone sneaks an entire body into my club undetected. Everything has changed. I’m about to get my hands involved directly. I’m tired of trying to connect the dots from a distance.

King personally offered to send help. Grim and Reap are on their way to New York. If I know Brick, he’ll be right along with them. However, I’m not waiting for reinforcements. I want answers now.

The sound of glass smashing reaches me as I move toward the room where I know I will find the person I’m looking for. This has been a long time coming. It’s time we settle the score.

I push the door to the office open to find just the person I’m looking for. I narrow my eyes to take in the sight. His hands are twisted in his hair, his back heaves as he stares into the fire in front of him. He looks a mess.

“What do you want?” he hisses.

“Hello to you too, cousin,” I say dryly as I move to take a seat behind his desk. I sit smoothly, never taking my eyes off him.

“Not today, Clay,” Wade replies.

“Yes, today.”

He spins on me, revealing his bloodshot eyes. He looks like complete shit. I don’t reveal my observation. Instead, I reach to open his cigar box and frown at the cheap-ass cigar inside. I won’t even insult my lips with those.

“Why are you here?” he growls.

“You know why. I want answers. Why have you been trying to frame Sid? I know you have a hard-on for me, but why Sid? Is it because she wouldn’t fuck you?”

“Fuck you,” Wade snarls. “I had nothing to do with any of this shit with Sidney. What would I have to gain from any of that bullshit?”

“Let’s see.” I tilt my head. “All of this bullshit has affected Gregor and me financially. This all started when it spilled out that Gregor and I were considering running for a few offices. That would throw a wrench in your plans to kiss up to my father by securing the governor’s seat.

“With both Gregor and I in politics, you’d go right back to being plain old Wade. Fucking with our money would put a stop to that. I just don’t understand the hard-on for Sid.” I lean back in his chair, folding my arms over my chest.
