She opened her eyes and bent to grab her bag, when the bathroom door opened and a few girls walked in. Their laughter echoed in the small enclosure, but it was the sound of Lindy’s voice that had Keira’s spine straightening.

“He keeps trying to get me in bed, but I’m not sure why it’s not getting through his head that he’s not up to my standards.”

“He’s hot though,” his friend said, and Lindy scoffed.

“Compared to who? And his parents aren’t even that loaded. I’d be scraping the bottom of the barrel giving him the time of day.” Her friends started laughing, but their voices died when they saw Keira.

Lindy’s eyes narrowed, and she gave her a smile. She said nothing as her smile grew and she made her way toward one of the sinks. Lindy turned the water on and started washing her hands as she stared at Keira through the reflection in the mirror.

“Keira, right?”

This wouldn’t end well; Keira already knew. Not only had it clearly pissed Lindy off that Reese hadn’t paid her attention at the party, but he’d been looking at Keira.

“Yeah” was all Keira said. She was going to leave, but Lindy’s friends blocked the door, their resting bitch faces on point.

“Didn’t Reese Trenton kick some guy’s ass for you at Alistor’s party?” Lindy said it so nonchalantly.

“It’s a long story.” And one Keira wasn’t going to get into.

The other girls started whispering to each other then giggled.

Lindy turned and dried her hands off as she looked Keira up and down. “I knew your brother, you know. Hung out with him at a couple parties.” Lindy smirked again.

The way she said hung made Keira think what that really meant was Lindy had gone all slut-mode where Alex was concerned. Keira didn’t know if that was supposed to bother her, but it didn’t. What Alex may or may not have done wasn’t Keira’s business. Although, if he had slept with Lindy, his standards had really dropped. Or he’d been shitfaced.

“I’ll tell him you said hi,” Keira said, and the expression on Lindy’s face told Keira that got under the girl’s skin.

Good.

“So, you and Reese….” Lindy’s voice trailed off as she leaned a shoulder against the wall and crossed her arms.

Keira stared at her for a heartbeat. Dammit, she made that school uniform look good. The short-as-hell skirt that showed off her long, perfect legs, the blouse with the cleavage popping, and the BMA cardigan… Lindy looked like a backup dancer in a Britney Spears music video.

“You guys fucking?” Lindy arched a perfect eyebrow.

Keira felt her face heat. “Um. No.”

“No?” Lindy’s voice was sarcastic. “Guys don’t just kick someone's ass out of the kindness of their heart. And rumor around school is you’re putting out for Reese big time.” Lindy smiled wider. “So he kicked that guy’s ass, because you’re either related to him, or you’re fucking him. And I know he’s not your long-lost brother, so—”

“I’m not fucking anyone,” Keira cut her off, her pulse racing.

Lindy’s face was serious right before she burst out laughing. That had her friends doing the same. All that accomplished was Keira’s face getting hotter. Lindy gave Keira a once-over again.

“Yeah, that seems about right.”

Keira didn’t have to assume what Lindy meant by that, because she started running her mouth a second later.

“You scream virgin.” The way Lindy said that almost made Keira feel inadequate.

Almost.

“We can’t all be experienced like you, Lindy.” Well, shit. Where the hell did that come from? That was Keira’s “nice” way of calling Lindy a damn ho. And by the tightness around Lindy’s mouth, it was clear the cheerleader caught on to that as well.

Lindy took a step closer, but Keira held her ground.

“The whole victim look fits you well,” Lindy sneered.

Victim look?

“Acting like you need to be saved at Alistor’s party? Pathetic.”

“Yeah, we heard you were all over that guy that got his ass kicked.”

Keira could have rolled her eyes at that. She wasn’t going to correct them, because it didn’t even matter at this point.

“But I’m not at all concerned that I can’t jump on Reese’s dick.”

Classy.

“I mean, look at you. With all the money your family has, you dress like you should be working in a library with Ms. Richards.” The shit-eating grin Lindy wore was saccharine and self-assured. She turned and stared at herself in the mirror.

“Besides, I know I could have Reese, seeing as there are far better assets at his disposal.” Lindy plumped her tits up, puckered her lips, the gloss on them wet-looking, and faced Keira once more. She gave her a fake-ass smile before walking past her, Lindy’s shoulder knocking into Keira’s.

When Keira was alone once more, she clenched her teeth. Jealousy wasn’t a good look on Lindy.

That bitch.

But out of everything Lindy said, the one thing that bothered her the most was the fact that she thought Reese deserved better than Keira. It shouldn’t have gotten under her skin like it had, especially with Lindy’s reputation, but it made this foreign side of Keira rise up.
