This is my experiment. Shouldn’t I be the one giving him the keys to the exit hatch?

“Ditto,” I say. “You know, on my planet, we make promises by touching tongues. Not fingers or lips. Just tongues.” I wiggle mine.

Donnelly never hesitates. His hand encases my cheek, and like we’re inside the same cosmos in rhythm and orbit, we near and the tips of our tongues tease and waggle, our eyes alight. Joy is a starburst glowing inside of me. When we drift slowly apart, we’re still grinning.

“That is a good promise,” I say softly like charting a note in my planet’s history. One good promise made.

“Tasted like it to me.”

Heat bathes me, a relaxing sort of heat that I crave to draw further into, like steam swirling inside a sauna.

Only, I realize now that our promise was to stop if we need to. And I’m not sure I want this to end, even before it’s begun. The sad thought vanishes when Donnelly climbs onto the bed.

Swiftly, he disappears under the sheets.

My face flushes in anticipation. He’s so hot. His warm fingers slip around the waistband of my drawstring shorts. I shimmy them off, along with my panties. I do what I did with Andrew and pull my shirt over my head. Snapping off my bra next, I’m naked underneath the sheets.

Donnelly is totally hidden, the sheets tenting him. When his hands rest on my thighs, a shockwave ripples through me. Carefully, slowly, he breaks open my legs.

I figure he’s going to let his palms roam and caress all over my body—that maybe the lack of full body grope is what Andrew was doing completely wrong.

But I’m wrong.

Donnelly roots his palms on my legs more for stability, I think, than arousal. And then I feel the warmth of his tongue on my most tender, sensitive flesh. He kisses lightly, then he swirls around my clit. I twitch from the contact.

Headiness wraps around me as he sucks on the bud. Whoaa. My back arches, toes curling. I lift the sheets over my head. To join him under the tent. Dark and warm here, his head is buried between my thighs. He never stops kissing.

Never stops sucking, and his eyes flit upwards, caught on mine before his gaze descends to my pink perked nipples.

And then his tongue enters me. My mouth parts, my body shuddering, and the sheet slips off my head. He’s back alone in the dark tent while the light floods me.

I hear my panting breath that grows louder. I twitch again, and then Donnelly does something I can’t accurately comprehend without seeing him. Maybe he goes deeper. He’s bringing me closer to a blast-off. Legs buckling and trembling, I grip on to the sheets and almost close my eyes to keep from crying out. My head lolls to the side.

Jane is standing in the room. Frozen in place. Wide-eyed.

My eyes snap open wider. “Shitshit,” I curse, my heart exploding.

Donnelly pops out of the sheet so quickly. I wish I had powers to stop time and tell him to hide. To tell him to stay deep in the depths and not be exposed. He’s too concerned about my being. Worry flashes across his blue eyes. “What’s wrong?” As if sensing another presence in the room, his attention immediately shifts to the door.

Jane is still standing there with saucers for eyes. Silent. Unmoving. And I’m not sure I can blame her. It’s not like she knows how innocent this all is—and it really is so very innocent!

Donnelly is careful to keep me covered with the sheet while he slips out from the bottom of the bed. He’s casual, like we weren’t caught in a compromising position. His carefree gait almost eases my mega-level panic as he grabs his shirt from the floor with an unhurriedness. Van Halen tee tucked in his back pocket, I wonder if he’s made a lot of quick exits before.

Maybe this is just routine for Donnelly. Maybe it’ll be routine for me too once I find a groove with one-night stands.

Jane takes a breath. It feels like minutes but it’s only been a handful of seconds that she’s been standing here. “I’m so sorry, Luna.” Her big blue eyes ping to the door. “I’m going to come back later.” She backs away.

“Waitwait!” I whisper-hiss, careful not to alert my other roommates. “Don’t leave before I can explain.”

My dad can’t know. The sudden thought skips my pulse. Jane wouldn’t tell him anything.

Would she?

Now my main and only concern is how this might affect Donnelly.

To float or to risk death.

He can’t die from my experiment. I’m the one who should be burdening the risk.

I need to explain. So that she doesn’t go running to my older brother, who is her best friend and who might tell my dad, without all the information. I know how this looks! It looks like a bodyguard was fucking me.
