He watched the fire for a while before he turned back to me. “Look at us, drinking coffee like a bunch of pussies.”
I chuckled slightly. “Yeah. We used to spend our time at the bars and whorehouses. Now…we spend our time with our women.”
“I guess we’ve grown up.”
“And accepted our curses.”
He was quiet for a while. “After we left that purple tent, I thought we were cursed. But now, I think we were blessed…both of us.” He raised his mug in a toast. “To Sofia and Anna…our better halves.”
We were two grown men who had settled down. But instead of being bitter about it, we were happy…really happy. I grabbed my mug and tapped it against his. “And to us, too. Been friends for over a decade now.”
He smiled. “And we’ll be friends forever.”
