“You wanted to move out to be your own person, and since Halloween, you’ve arrived and not left. Not that I’m complaining, because trust me, I love my little girl being here. But, why are you here?”

Morwenna looked across the kitchen counter at her mother as she held her camera in her hands. How could she tell her mother she couldn’t go back to her home because Venom was there? Or he might not be there, as the text he sent was vague.

They had sex. Amazing sex. Possibly even the best sex she’d ever experienced, and it had been incredible. When she woke up, she had a mini freak-out. First, Venom hadn’t been in the bed with her, and it looked like he’d run out of the house. Okay, fine, she figured he didn’t enjoy it like her, and she wasn’t going to hold it against him.

However, there was no way she could currently face him. Which is why she took a quick shower, grabbed a suitcase with a few items of clothes, and arrived at her mother’s house within an hour of waking up. She’d packed more of her equipment than she had of spare clothes. At this rate, if something happened to her mother’s washer and dryer, she was going to have to buy new clothes, which wasn’t good. She wasn’t looking forward to that.

“I figured it would be good to have a change of scenery, and, well, I can still drop off the food over at the clubhouse. It’s nothing, but I can head home if you don’t want me here.”

Willow sighed. “Honey, it’s not that I don’t want you here, but I know something is bothering you. I’m not blind. I’m a woman, and I can see your little head is troubled. I know you usually go to your dad with all your troubles, but that doesn’t mean your mother doesn’t have the answers as well.”

It was worth a shot. There was no way she could tell her dad what happened.

“I ... uh, it’s ... I had sex,” Morwenna said.

“And?”

“It wasn’t with Bolt.”

Her mother continued to look at her, and she partly expected her mother to look judgey or be disappointed in her.

“What is the problem? Did you not want to have sex? Was it bad? Do I need to call your father?”

“No, no, no.” She shook her hands in front of her and tried not to panic, but felt that fear rising up with every second that passed. “I mean, I wanted the sex. I wasn’t forced. It was amazing.”

“So, what is the problem?” her mother asked.

“It wasn’t with Bolt.”

“And?” her mother asked again.

“Doesn’t that make me a cheating slut?”

Willow threw back her head and laughed, and Morwenna didn’t feel happy about this.

“Mom, come on, seriously?”

“I’m so sorry, it’s just that I can’t believe you’re worried about this. Okay, do you plan to get back together with Bolt?”

“Absolutely not. No. Never. He lied, and there’s so much between us now that there is no way I would want to be with him. He lied for too long.”

“And you’re trying to divorce him.”

“Yes, but he still won’t sign the divorce papers.”

“This other guy ... what is—”

“It’s Venom,” Morwenna said, and winced at the surprise on her mother’s face. “Please don’t judge.”

Willow held out her hands. “I’m not judging. Trust me, I do not want to judge, but I don’t know what law there is within the club. I don’t see you as cheating. Others might, but I don’t. You’ve been trying to get a divorce, and there is only so much you can do.”

Morwenna sighed.

“That’s why you’ve been here?” Willow asked.

“Venom’s my friend, and we had sex, and when I woke up, he wasn’t there, and it feels like everything is so complicated and messed up. He is Bolt’s club brother, and I’m not trying to rock that boat.”

“Did you want to have sex with him?” her mother asked.

Morwenna sighed. “Yeah, I did. Does that make me a bad person?”

“Honey, for crying out loud, I had to be with you for a year while you tried to come to terms with all that happened. You were hurt. Bolt broke your heart. I watched you fall to pieces, and then to learn he also had three kids with that woman. They kept you in the dark, and Venom, I can see the appeal.”

She frowned. “Mom, do you have a crush on Venom?”

“What?” Her mother frowned and shook her head. “No, I can see the appeal you have for him, because he’s the only one in the club that hasn’t let you down. I see that. He wasn’t even there, and he’s had your back from the moment he got out. Don’t you get a little nervous, though? He did kill people.”

“Mom, they were hurting dogs.”

“Still, doesn’t that mean something?”
