“Carmen,” I say, narrowing my eyes. “That’s Carmen.”

Riggs looks to me, his face hard. “What did you just say?”

I stare at him, confused. “That’s Carmen, she’s a friend of mine.”

“Since fuckin’ when?” he growls.

“Ah, a few weeks ago she introduced herself to me and we became friends. I swear I didn’t tell her to do anything to the garage ...”

Billy looks between us, confused. “Care to explain this so I understand better?”

“Yeah,” Riggs looks at Billy. “Carmen is my fuckin’ wife.”

Wait, what?

Did he just say wife?

I shake my head in confusion, staring at him. “Wife?” I squeak.

“The very same one I told you about,” he growls. “That smart bitch. She’s fuckin’ genius, I’ll give her that much.”

“I’ll need you to explain what you’re talking about,” Billy prompts.

Riggs looks to me, ignoring Billy. “What are the chances you told her about me?”

I give him a nervous smile. “Well, yeah, I told her. I ... oh god, I told her everything.”

Riggs looks to Beckett, who shakes his head in shock. “That fuckin’ smart bitch,” he murmurs.

“I’m still going to need you to tell me what’s going on,” Billy says, his voice a lot firmer this time.

“Carmen is my ex-wife. Not only did she burn down my house before I left her, but she caused a lot of problems for me. She has obviously located me, seen me with Eve, and decided she wasn’t happy about it. The smart bitch has then befriended Eve, made it look like she lit the garage up, no doubt in an attempt to get us to hate each other. It very nearly worked.”

Billy looks confused. “One woman did all of that?”

“Not just a woman, a fuckin’ demon,” Riggs mutters. “Can’t believe that bitch tracked me down.”

“Do you have any idea where we might find her?” Billy questions.

Riggs shakes his head and looks to me. “No idea, but you will. You got her number? If she doesn’t think we’re onto her, we can grab her before she runs. Because if she knows the cops have her picture, she’ll be gone like a flash only to come back and torment me again at another time. The bitch needs to get locked up, it’ll do her good.”

I nod. “I have her number, and I can get her somewhere where she can be arrested.”

Billy nods. “We’ll set up a time and place, it sounds like this woman could be dangerous. Are you certain you’ll be safe?”

I nod again. “I can handle her. That bitch has seen nothing yet.”

Riggs snorts.

I look to him. “What, you think I can’t take her? She looks like a curvy Barbie doll, one swift kick and she’s going to be on the ground with a broken nail sobbing about getting dirt in her perfect damned hair.”

“Jesus Christ,” Riggs murmurs, pressing his fingers to his temples. “This is going to be interesting.”

Oh.

He’s damn right.

Carmen is going down.

“SO, SHE’S RIGGS’ EX-wife?” Ramona whisper hisses when I tell her what just happened at the station.

“Yep.”

“And she befriended you and you had no idea?”

“None,” I exhale, angrily.

I actually liked Carmen. I thought she was a really nice person and was going to become a good friend. We had incredible conversations and got along so well. I could have sworn it was real. If you had told me she was faking it I would have told you that there was no way. She did such a good job, I can’t believe I fell for it. Worse, I can’t believe that she is cold enough to do something like that.

To make it look like I lit that fire.

Just to get me away from Riggs.

Bitch is obsessed.

“Oh, we’re taking that bitch down. She very nearly ruined your career. Nobody messes with you and gets away with it.”

She’ll go down alright, but this time we’ll make sure she stays down. Somehow, she got away with burning down a house with Riggs inside it before, she’s not going to get away with it this time. I have no doubt she hasn’t paid for her previous crimes, Riggs told me she did a runner so I’m certain the cops will have a field day with her when they get hold of her.

“Oh, she’s going to pay for it. I get to lure her in and then call the cops who will come and collect her.”

Ramona claps. “We get to go undercover?”

I laugh. “Basically. I have text her and asked if she was okay because she ran out the other day. I have to act like I have no idea. She said she was okay, just sick in the stomach. I told her Riggs broke up with me, and that he only used me for sex and she was right. It isn’t true, of course, but it lured her right in. She invited me to her place for dinner and drinks tonight to talk about it.”
