She raises a brow and shoots a glance at the guard. “What?! Do you intend to have me thrown out?”

I turn and give him a nod, and he moves toward her. Her gaze flicks frantically between him and me. When he reaches out to grab her, I say, “No touching.” He drops his hand.

“It’s time to go, miss.”

“You’re really kicking me out?” she asks in disbelief. She picks up a glass of champagne and throws the contents in my face before placing the glass back down. “I’ll escort myself out, thank you very much. And you…” She pins me with a glare. “I never want to see you again.” Raising her chin high, she walks out, and Sebastian stands there, shocked.

“She’ll get over it,” I tell him, to which he shakes his head.

“Doubt it,” he says, then goes to follow her.

“She likes me,” I mutter.

He scoffs. “Yeah, if you say so.”

But I can tell she does.

Her words may tell lies, but her body knows the truth.

NINETEEN

CORA

“I’m out, so you can kindly fuck off now,” I say to the security guard, who is hovering nearby as I fume at Arlo’s actions.

I have never been kicked out of an event in my life, yet here I am. Standing here, ready to throw hands with a man inside. I should have kicked him in the fucking balls.

Asshole.

Who does he think he is? Kicking me out and embarrassing me like that?

I start pacing and casually throw death glances at the security guard, who hasn’t moved at all. However, my anger doesn’t seem to faze him in the slightest.

I don’t want to leave because I want to apologize to Sebastian for ruining his night. It definitely wasn’t my intention. I came to support him, and all I did was create a damn spectacle.

I didn’t expect to see Arlo here though. How have I let that man get under my skin in just a few weeks? I feel like I gave him some type of power over me that I wasn’t aware I was giving him, and he just took that and ran with it. He’s an astute man, and I should have known better.

Peering back through the door, I try to keep an eye out for Sebastian. I left my purse in there, so I can’t even call him. Unless I hit this guy in the dick, there is no way I’m getting back inside.

Taking a deep breath, I try to calm my nerves as I turn to the security guard to try to beg him to go grab my purse. But just as I open my mouth to speak, I see Sebastian walking out, my purse clutched in his hand. He’s got a slight smile on his face as he approaches and hands me my evening bag.

“So, that was interesting,” he says.

“That was embarrassing. Who does he think he is?”

“He’s a rich guy,” Sebastian answers with a laugh.

Pawing through my purse, I can’t find my phone.

“He took your phone,” he informs me.

“What? And you allowed him to?” I screech.

“He asked nicely.”

“Gosh, that makes us even, then, right? I was a shit friend in there, and now you’re being a shit friend.” Taking another deep breath, I turn to face him. “I’m sorry. You’re not a shit friend. I’m just mad. And I’m sorry for ruining your night.”

He waves off my apology. “You didn’t ruin my night. You made it so much more interesting.” He pulls me in for a hug, and I let him, even though he knows how much I hate hugs. “He really is hot though. Please tell me you fucked him and how big his dick is.”

“She’s only slid her half-clothed body against it, right, sweetheart?”

At the sound of his voice, my body instantly locks into fight-or-flight mode. Glancing past Sebastian, I see Arlo standing there, holding my phone. I step around Sebastian and stomp over to Arlo to take my phone from his clasped hand. But he doesn’t let it go; he holds it tightly.

“Do you wish to apologize for your actions in there?” he asks, and I try to pull my phone out of his grasp, but he continues to hold it. If this phone didn’t have my whole life on it, I would let him have it.

But it does.

“Give. Me. My. Phone.”

He licks his lips, and I watch as he bites the bottom one so hard that a little bit of blood appears. My eyes home in on it, and my grip loosens. He takes that opportunity to pull me closer again. Always has to be in control of the situation. But this time, he will not win. I’m mad.

“The fire in your eyes right now is making my cock hard,” he says, and I basically hiss at him through my teeth. “That’s okay, sweetheart, you can take that anger out on my cock. Just say the word…”
