“It was a reasonable assumption,” she argued once the pain passed again. “I had them like this for almost two weeks straight when I was pregnant with Ryan.”

I picked her up again and carried her out of the elevator and through the lobby. “True, but he was our first. When you were pregnant with Nate, you only had a random Braxton Hicks here and there. Then when you went into labor, it only took a few hours before you were ready to push. Who knows how long we’ve got this time?”

Fenton was waiting for us at the curb with the back door open. As I got Charlotte settled on the seat, he circled the car to jump in the driver’s seat. She squeezed my hand when another contraction struck, and I barked, “Get us to the hospital as fast as you can, Fenton.”

“I. Don’t. Want. To. Have. My. Baby. In. The. Car,” she panted between breaths.

“Neither do I,” a horrified Fenton agreed.

It was a damn close call, but we made it to the hospital with only minutes to spare before our daughter, Clara, was born. We would’ve had to pull over to the side of the road if Fenton hadn’t driven like a bat out of hell to get us there, for which I was extremely thankful and gave him a big bonus.

I reminded Charlotte about the close call six weeks later when I bent her over our bed to spank her ass red before giving her an orgasm. Then I slid into her drenched pussy for the first time since she gave birth to our daughter and warned her that she’d better tell me about any contractions she has the next time she was pregnant. Ten months later, she did exactly that...and then we spent twenty-three hours in the hospital waiting for our fourth child to be born. But at least Carver wasn’t almost born in a car.

Extra Epilogue

Charlotte

“Thanks, Dad.” Pulling his jacket on, Carver beamed a big grin at Rhett. “Everyone thinks it’s awesome that Fenton is driving us tonight.”

Rhett patted our son on the back. “You’re welcome, kiddo.”

Irritated that my husband was getting credit for my idea, I glared at him over Carver’s shoulder when he bent over to kiss my cheek. “See you later, Mom.”

“Bye, sweetie. Be safe and have fun,” I whispered, wrapping my arms around his back to give him a squeeze.

“We’re just going to the movies,” he reminded me with a sigh.

I wagged my finger at him as he stepped away from me. “It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, I’m allowed to worry. I’m your mother.”

“And I’ll always be your baby,” he finished for me.

I patted his cheek with a smile. “Exactly.”

He shook his head before walking out the door and over to the car. We followed behind him, watching as he slid into the backseat.

“Don’t worry, Charlotte. I’ll keep an eye on the boy,” Fenton promised before circling the vehicle.

“Thanks,” I whispered.

Rhett wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me close while I stared at the back of the car as it pulled away with our youngest son inside. Ryan and Nate were out with friends, Clara was sulking in her room, and Robyn and Darcy were having a play date with my mom. I didn’t need to worry about anyone overhearing what I had to say as I gave my husband a piece of my mind.

Taking a step forward, I turned toward him and planted my hands on my hips. My lips pressed into a flat line as I glared up at him, but he didn’t seem too worried judging by how he grinned down at me. “What’s wrong, baby?”

“Are you really going to pretend like you have no idea what’s bothering me?” I snapped.

“Yup.” His smile widened, but I knew it wasn’t because he found my irritation funny. For some strange reason, he loved it when I showed my fiery side. Which was why most of our arguments tended to lead to smoking hot make-up sex.

But I refused to be sucked in by his sexiness right now. No matter how difficult he was to resist. Lifting my hand, I used my fingers to tick off all of the reasons I was upset. “If Clara is too young to date, then so is Carver. He’s a year younger than her.”

“He’s not really going on a date,” Rhett argued. “There’s a whole group of kids going to see the movie together.”

“Two boys and two girls is not a whole group.” I lifted another finger. “He’s out on a double date no matter what you call it.”

“Nothing is going to happen. They’re just going to a movie,” he reassured.

Thinking about some of the things we’d done in a dark theater, I huffed out a sarcastic laugh and rolled my eyes. “I’ll remind you of that the next time we go to the movies by ourselves.”
