She loved the way it felt when he was all around her and there was not a stitch of clothes between them. There was nothing but the languor of after and the sweetness of the intimacy between them. There was no awkwardness, no wondering if the other person felt the same way. There was nothing but certainty that this was right and good and probably meant to be.

He nuzzled her cheek. “Yep. Knew that would be good. Expected it would be great. And then it still blew me away.”

“I would definitely give that a ten out of ten. That gets a recommend from me.”

He chuckled and rolled off her, but he quickly pulled her into his arms. “Oh, you should know we’ll be doing that a lot. And I think you should take pity on your poor boyfriend and let him move in with you. It’s way past time for me to get out and leave the newlyweds alone. I’m sick of hearing David and Tessa have sex. I want to make other people listen to you and me having sex. Lots of sex.”

She’d already planned on doing that. At least until they could find a house. It was time for them to be actual adults and settle down. There were several houses for rent in his brother’s neighborhood, and they wouldn’t be far from his Uncle Theo. Still, she couldn’t help but tease the man. “You wait until after sex to try to take half my place.”

His arm tightened around her. “Only until we find a house. We should do adult things now.”

They were so in synch. “I was just thinking that.”

“There are a couple of places near…”

“David and Tessa,” she finished. “I know. I already looked. I thought it would be nice because it’s also pretty close to Theo and Erin.”

“I don’t have a ton of cash, but the good news is I also don’t have any debt,” Kyle began.

Oh, she needed to put that to rest right now. She rolled over and propped herself up on her elbow. “We’ll be fine. We’re a team, and we pool our resources. And you’ll make more as an investigator. I think you’ll like it. You’re good at solving mysteries.”

“Yeah. We should probably talk about the whole CIA thing,” he began, his lips turning down. “I can’t talk about most of my work there.”

“I’ve always suspected you were Agency. I wouldn’t have been able to prove it, of course, but I could have made an excellent case,” she said quietly. “I’m pretty good at investigating, too.”

His eyes narrowed. “You investigated me?” And then his expression cleared. “I would have, too. But I would think the Agency would be better at hiding things.”

She sighed and relaxed. “Oh, if I didn’t know better I would absolutely believed you were a normal, regular Navy SEAL. But I work where I work and I’m good at listening in on things. Also, I know how to read Agency bullshit.”

“Well, I’m glad you’ve moved on from potentially working for the mob to just hacking military records,” he quipped, proving he wasn’t so bad himself.

She’d been young and embracing the intricacies of the Dark Web. “Yeah, that wasn’t my shining moment. Lucky for me Hutch was investigating that syndicate at the time and gave me a heads-up, and later on a job. So when you think about it, it was a good thing.”

“Because it led you here,” he murmured and leaned over, brushing his lips against hers. “I will forever be grateful for that and to Hutch. I’ll send him a candy basket for saving my girl before she was my girl.”

“I think I might have always been your girl. You should know I’ve never felt this way about anyone else.”

His hand came out to cup her face. “Me either. And that includes people I don’t want to talk about. Only you, baby. Now come here and kiss me again. We only have a few hours until we go back to work. Let’s not make a big announcement until we get home. I happen to know there’s a betting pool, and I want to fuck my uncles over. They have this weekend. If we hold out until Monday, Alex McKay wins big.”

They worked at the best place in the world. “I won’t tell if you won’t. As far as they’ll know it was the excitement of being at Disneyland that did it.”

He groaned but he kissed her again, and she got ready for the rest of her life.

Chapter Seven

“So how did you spend your afternoon off? Do I need to ask? You’re practically glowing. Did she buy you a ring yet? Should I plan your bachelor party?” Drake asked, one brow raised.

They were secluded in Kayla Summers-Hunt’s office at The Reef. Though her office was industrial chic like the rest of the club, there was no doubt that the works of art and furniture were expensive and luxurious. Kyle supposed that when one’s husband was one of Hollywood’s highest paid actors, one could decorate however one wanted.
