Big Tag sat back. “Yeah, I think all business is war when you’re in The Consortium.” He’d come in for this meeting with Drake and Taylor, but he was staying home with his family for the next couple of weeks. The Taggarts were going through some things, but they would get through it the way they always did—together. “Have you identified the double agents?”

Drake nodded, his expression grim, but the fact that Taylor was at his side gave MaeBe hope that he would get through this, too. He’d had to bury his sister, and while she’d been a terrible person, he’d still shared a childhood with her. “I’ve got positive IDs on fifteen agents across five different intelligence agencies. Taylor and I have already been in touch with some people in government who are going to help us clean house, so to speak. Now the question is what do we do with the rest of the intel?”

“Work with our allies to take down as many of the fuckers as we can.” Ian closed the folder in front of him. “I’ll send this down to Adam’s team. They might have some suggestions on how to use the information. We’ll likely funnel it to the proper authorities and The Consortium will go underground. For a while.”

They were never gone forever. Another group would inevitably fill the power vacuum, and someone would have to take them down again.

She was pretty sure Tag worried it would be his kids who would someday tangle with the next version of the group.

But that was another problem for another day. “Is Kala doing okay?”

A ghost of a smile played on Ian’s lips. “She’s using the whole thing as a way to get me to train her properly, and damn, but it’s working. I have to hope this is a phase she’ll get over. I want my kids to go to college and have easier lives, but I’ve been told they get to choose for themselves. That should come on the packaging. There should be a warning.”

She was pretty sure there had been plenty of warnings about the dangers of having kids, but she was glad Big Tag had ignored them all. Those kids would save the world one day.

“Has anyone seen or heard from our mysterious friend?” Kyle asked.

When they’d gotten back to Dallas, Joseph Caulder had managed to slip away from Sanctum and his guards. He’d proven he was every bit the spy he’d claimed to be.

“Oh, we have, and the Canadians are not so happy with us,” Drake replied. “Taylor and I are flying to Toronto next week to meet with his bosses and share some of this intel with them. Hopefully we can repair that relationship. He wasn’t happy to be left behind. I might have trouble with him in the future.”

“Luckily, I’m out of the game.” Big Tag pushed back his chair and stood up. “At least for now.” He pointed a finger Kyle’s way. “Nephew, are you sure you want to do this?”

Kyle’s hand found hers, threading their fingers together. “Yes. I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.”

They’d spent the last few days in bed together, barely coming out of the apartment to do more than gather food and go right back to being alone together again. It had been marvelous to have everything out in the open. No more secrets. No lies. Only love between them. And plans. They had lots of plans. “I think he’s teasing you about where we’re going.”

Kyle got the goofiest grin on his face. Since the pressure had been taken off of him, she was starting to see news sides of the man she loved. He could be goofy and fun and so tender it made her heart ache. He’d relaxed in the last few days, much of his guilt and anxiety sliding off him like a coat that no longer fit.

“I did not take you for a big Disney fan,” Ian said with a shake of his head. “Are you two eloping?”

She was sure that was exactly what they wanted to do. “I might try to convince him to make a quick stop in Vegas on our way there.”

“Already have the tickets,” Kyle said. “I do not intend to let her get away from me this time.”

She gasped. “Me?”

Kyle laughed and tugged her hand until she was sitting on his lap. “Definitely you. I’ve learned from my uncle that revising history can be the best way to go.”

“Then my work here is done,” Ian announced. “You two enjoy the next couple of weeks. Kyle’s moving up to investigations when he comes back, and I’ll expect some work out of the two of you. I want to keep track of what happens with The Consortium fallout.”

The boss left to go back to his family.
