With a frown, I looked at Hunter. “What did he do to her?”

“Hey!” Kyle said, sitting up some. “How do you know it wasn’t Maggie who did something?”

“Was it Maggie?” I asked, remembering Maggie from high school. She had been pretty and tall, with dark blonde hair and a passion for volleyball.

Kyle huffed and shook his head.

Hunter cleared his throat. “Maggie moved back to Boggy Creek five years ago after her divorce was final—she’d married some guy she met in college, and it didn’t work out. She got a job with the school district teaching, and she’s also the girls’ volleyball coach. Well, Kyle here asked her out, and things didn’t go so great.”

When Hunter started laughing, I found myself laughing with him. “What happened?” I asked.

“Do you want to tell him, or shall I?” Hunter asked as Kyle glared at both of us.

“I asked her if she wanted to do something daring,” Kyle said.

With a roll of my eyes, I said, “Lord, tell me it wasn’t something illegal. You are a cop and all.”

He shot me a dirty look. “No, it wasn’t.”

Hunter apparently couldn’t take it any longer. “He talked her into letting him fuck her here.”

“Here?” I asked, confused.

“Yes. Here. In the diner. Actually, I believe it was in the kitchen up against the refrigerator where Tess caught you both.”

I felt my eyes widen in shock. “You broke into the diner and had sex? In the kitchen?”

“According to the cameras, which neither of them knew about, they had sex on table number four—which is that booth over there in the corner, by the way,” Hunter said, pointing to the other side of the diner. “Then they moved to the counter, somewhere in the middle, I think it was. Then they took it to the kitchen when Maggie said she wanted ice to…to…” Hunter busted out laughing.

I turned and looked at Kyle. “What did she want the ice for?”

Kyle hit me on the arm. “Keep your fucking voice down!”

“The ice?” I asked.

He shrugged.

Hunter looked like he was about to burst.

“She wanted to suck on the ice and then give him a blow job. Said she read about it in a book once.”

“And Tess caught you both?”

Kyle nodded.

“Tell me it wasn’t when she had the ice and was…”

Hunter lost it laughing once again.

Turning in the booth, I looked at Kyle, whose face was as red as a fire truck. “Oh fuck, dude,” I said. “And you continue to show your face here?”

“Fuck you, Aiden,” Kyle spat out. “I wasn’t allowed back in until about a year ago, and you know how good Tess’s breakfast is!”

It was my turn to laugh, and that was right when Tess showed up with my coffee and a glass of water. “Sounds like you boys are getting all caught up,” she said, smiling.

Hunter coughed, Kyle shrank down in the booth some, and I nodded. “Yes, ma’am. It’s been awhile.”

She grinned. “Well, enjoy.” Before she left, she shot Kyle a death glare.

“Honestly, I’m surprised she didn’t cut your balls off when she caught the two of you,” I said.

Kyle adjusted in his seat. “Trust me, she almost did. Maggie stopped her.”

“And Maggie?” I asked.

With a shake of his head, Kyle said, “That was our first and last date.”

“Why?” I asked.

Kyle gave a one-shoulder shrug. “Who knows. It was for the best. I thought I was daring, but Maggie put a whole new meaning to it. She’s into the kinky shit, and that’s not for me.”

I looked over to Hunter who simply raised his brows.

“All right, boys, breakfast is here,” a young waitress said as she placed the tray down on a holder and started handing over plates.

“We ordered right before you walked in,” Hunter said, winking at the young girl who immediately blushed.

When she focused on me, she paused for a moment before smiling brighter and placing my plate down. “Blueberry pancakes with bacon and scrambled eggs.”

“Wow, Tess remembered how I liked my eggs,” I said as I shot Kyle a smirk.

“Fuck you,” he mumbled.

The waitress cleared her throat. “Is there anything else I can get you boys…um, guys?”

“I think that’s it for now. But maybe another cup of coffee?” Hunter asked as he held up his cup.

“Of course!” she said, a little too cheerfully.

When she turned to walk away, Hunter watched her go.

“Don’t you think she’s a little young, Hunter?” Kyle asked.

Hunter huffed and started to cut into his French toast. “No, she’s twenty-six.”

“She’s twenty-six?” I asked in a disbelieving voice.

Kyle laughed. “That’s what I’m saying.”

“Who’s twenty-six?”

The three of us all turned to see Willa standing there. My heart felt like it stilled in my chest for a moment when she motioned for Hunter to move over and slid into the booth.

“The waitress,” Hunter replied, taking another bite of his food.

Willa looked back over to the counter where three waitresses, along with Tess, were moving about. Tess was the one who brought the coffee back over.
