But then, my train of thought is cut off when a pair of strong arms encircle my waist. I gasp, letting out an embarrassing screech as I squirm around to look at a smirking Ranger. He grins, those blue eyes glittering with mischief.

“When did you get back?” I murmur. “I didn’t hear you come in! How did you get upstairs without me hearing you?”

“So many questions,” he chuckles. “And not even a ‘welcome home’ kiss from my best girl.”

“Un-oh, sounds like that’s my cue to leave,” Clara sings from the phone screen. “Call me back when you get a free moment. Later lovebirds!” she waves before pressing disconnect so that the screen goes dark.

With that, I giggle as I squirm around for the requisite kiss. I peck Ranger on the lips, but then he wraps his strong arms around my waist to pull me closer and tilts his head to deepen the kiss. My body responds to him before my brain can even catch up, and I open my mouth, pressing my breasts up against his chest before I finally come to my senses.

“None of that!” I giggle while admonishing him playfully. “I have to finish getting ready so we can leave.”

He smirks.

“I love watching you get ready,” he growls before giving me one final kiss and then making his way over to the bed to sit down. “Continue, my lady.”

I roll my eyes, laughing as I reach for my shoes.

“Okay, which do you think are better?” I ask, showing him the two options. “These cute black Mary Janes, or the stilettos?”

Ranger’s reply is immediate.

“Stilettos, baby girl. You know I love seeing those long legs in sexy fuck me shoes.”

I laugh then.

“Yes, but we’re just going to a bar!”

He shrugs, those blue eyes gleaming with possessiveness.

“Honey, I want the other men to drool with envy, knowing that you’re with me. I want them to get all hard looking at your sweet body, and then knowing that I’m the one who’s going to have my cock inside you tonight. That’s what the stilettos are for,” he explains.

I laugh helplessly again.

“OMG, you’re so bad!”

But I slip on the high heels, and soon enough, we’re at the bar. It’s a nice place. Fancy, but not too much so, with wood paneled walls, a long oak table, and low jazz music piped from cleverly hidden speakers. Ranger leads me over towards a corner where to my surprise, there are two men sitting, chatting and laughing together. I stare at my date.

“You didn’t tell me you were inviting friends!” I mutter under my breath. My handsome lover merely shrugs and then grins, showing off even white teeth.

“They’ve been dying to meet you, honey, because I’ve been telling them how gorgeous you are, and now they want to get a look for themselves.”

“Yes, but do they know what I do for a living?” I ask under my breath as my heart races. Fortunately, Ranger shakes his head.

“No sweetheart. I would never tell anyone. They just know you as a gorgeous woman that I’m seeing.” Then, he turns to the waiting men.

“Yo, Sam, Clement, I want you to meet my sweet girl, Sydney,” Ranger introduces. “Sam and Clement are total assholes whom I’ve known for too long. And they’re both air marshals as well, although I’m sure the TSA is looking for ways to fire them asap.”

I smile hesitantly. Both Sam and Clement are gorgeous men. They’re tall and athletic, with dark brown hair and piercing gazes. They’re dressed casually in polo shirts and jeans, but that doesn’t hide their broad shoulders and powerful arms.

“Nice to meet you guys,” I murmur while sitting. “If you work for the TSA, that means you’re American, right?” I ask with a smile.

Clement nods and gives me a salute.

“Yes ma’am,” he answers. “We’re as American as apple pie, but as you know from this dude here, we travel a lot for our jobs because we’re air marshals,” he shrugs. “I just flew in from Chicago, and this asshole just came from Denver, right?”

Sam merely grins while swigging his beer.

“Denver’s got some hot chicks,” he drawls. “Don’t diss the Mountain State.”

Clement then chuckles before turning back to me.

“Yeah, but we like London. One of the perks of being an air marshal is visiting foreign countries because you know I’d never leave the United States otherwise. Fuck, half my family hasn’t even left Appalachia,” Clement adds ruefully. “They’re scared of getting on a flight and claim that ‘planes just don’t make sense.’”

“They have a point,” Ranger growls in a low voice. “In a way, planes really don’t make sense. I mean, these frickin’ birds are going five hundred miles an hour five miles up in the sky. It’s a fucking miracle these pieces of tin don’t fall apart mid-air.”

Sam nods.

“Hear, hear.”

Clement grins.

“Yeah, I can just see my Aunt Irma now. If she got on a plane, she’d definitely drive the staff crazy with her demands. Irma may be seventy if a day, but trust me, you can’t take the country out of a country girl. An in-air incident doesn’t even come close. She’d personally punch the daylights of any air marshal that got in her way.”
