Just a whole lot shorter and more top heavy, I thought, wishing for the thousandth time for a single day without giant boobs. I wanted to know what it was like to not have to not only wear a bra, but to have to wear a significant, double hook, wide strap monstrosity. I wanted to wear spaghetti straps… I knew Janet wished the opposite, lamenting over her smaller chest and slender figure. If we ever got our hands on a magic lamp, I had a crazy feeling we might ask to switch.

After asking for health, wealth, and happiness for our loved ones and world peace, of course.

I shook my head and went back to applying a thin layer of makeup to Dana’s glowing skin. She was beautiful, of course, but she rarely did anything other than swipe on some lip gloss. Just darkening her eyebrows a little bit made her bright eyes pop in a way that made me raise my eyebrows.

“My goodness,” Kaylie said, leaning in over my shoulder to peek. “A little certainly goes a long way.”

I nodded in agreement.

“You still look natural,” I reassured her, applying some brown mascara and a touch of soft peach blush. I followed that with a berry lip stain. “Very natural. Just… enhanced.”

“We need all the tricks we can get to topple the mighty Drake,” Becky said with a giggle.

“Oh, he’ll topple, alright. He’s going to crumble like a stale cracker,” Molly said, with a cackle.

“The bigger they come, the harder they fall,” Janet said with a lusty wink and we all dissolved into laughter.

“She said ‘come’,” Suzannah cackled and then we were all laughing so hard we nearly busted a gut.

“The point is,” Kaylie said to reassure Dana, “he doesn’t stand a chance.”

I had to agree. I leaned back after brushing a hint of golden bronzer over her cheeks.

“Some of my best work,” I said, holding up a hand held mirror. “Probably because the canvas is so darned pretty.”

She stared at herself and blinked.

“Oh. I… thank you.”

“Goodness, you look stunning,” Suzannah said. All the girls gathered around, except Suzanna, who was home and resting. We all had our suspicions about why, but were waiting for her to tell us to bring them out in the open. Cynthia and Preacher were still in town. Cynth let out a low whistle.

“Damn, girl,” she said. “You would cause a riot back home.”

“She would cause a riot here,” Janet agreed. “I almost wish we could get her to the club and cause a stampede… really light a fire under his ass.”

“This is not that kind of situation,” I laughed. “He’s already all in. He’s just being too much of a gentleman.”

“I never thought I’d hear ‘Drake’ and ‘gentleman’ in the same sentence,” Christine said, shaking her head. “But there really is no other word. He is so in love with you, girlina.”

“Hell yes he is,” Kaylie said. “The poor man is doomed.”

We look at each other. Then in an instant we were all laughing. The giggles grew and grew until we were all wiping our eyes and fanning ourselves. I used a magazine to keep Dana from smudging her makeup.

“Don’t you dare touch! You’ll smudge my masterpiece,” I chortled. “I think she’s ready for the outfit, girls.”

The room sprang into a flurry of activity. In short order Dana was in a form fitting sun dress and high heels that made her back arch justtttt right.

“Oh, I wish I could be there!”

“This is going to be epic!”

“I’ll report back,” Dana promised as she left with Becks. Whiskey was waiting outside to pick up his wife and loan Drake a vehicle for the night.

“Darln’, I don’t think you’ll have time,” Janet called out after her. “What with all the toppling.”

“And coming!” I added, surprising even myself with the bawdy joke. Everyone stared at me in shock. And then the damn broke. Just like that, we were all laughing again.

We waved them off and then the girls dispersed one by one, all of us making predictions about the speed of the wedding and first baby being born. I put my money on nine months to the day.

I was cleaning up my makeup kit when a handsome head poked in the door, looking around with a wicked gleam in his eyes.

“Are they gone?” Donahue asked mischievously.

“Yes,” I said, having a good feeling what was ‘coming’ next.

“We have fifteen minutes before dinner.”

“Donnie! We cannot keep your mother waiting!”

We ate dinner with his mom and sister almost every night at their house or ours. They helped us watch the kids so we had alone time. It was a lovely arrangement for all of us. Tonight everyone was going to Mrs. Donahue’s house next door. So we did have some privacy this evening… just for a little while.

“I’ll tell her we need a half an hour,” he said, looking like the devil himself with his dark hair and gleaming eyes. I laughed and smacked his shoulder as he scooped me up and carried me to the bed.
