He repeats the two words that will change my life forever: “Take her.”

They look at me greedily, and I realize this might actually be happening. I'm about to taken hostage and these three chiseled beasts of men will be my captors.

"You like her?" my father asks eagerly. He must see how he can use this to his advantage. It’s sick.

"You can have her. Do whatever with her."

"Just until we have our money," Ares says. “For collateral.”

"I'll get you the money. I promise."

"Your promises mean nothing to us. Nothing." Samuel practically spits the words out as though he has nothing but disdain for my father.

He grabs me aggressively by the arm and pulls me out of my chair. His entire hand easily fits around my upper arm. He pulls me to him, and I feel the shredded abs beneath his shirt.

I shudder involuntarily, but I can’t tell if it’s from fear or something else—something that doesn’t make sense. Because how could I possibly be attracted to men who are about to take me hostage?

"Dad! Wait, Dad,” I say quickly, thinking rationally for a second. “You can't just let them take me. How could you do this?"

My survival instinct must kick in because the next thing I know, all the crazy sexy thoughts fly right out of my head and I'm screaming and kicking and pulling away—to the point that Samuel lifts me up and tosses me over his shoulder like it's nothing.

I look up into my father's eyes. They’re so cold, and I realize that I’m resigned to this fate because even though I’m his only daughter, he truly has no love for me and couldn’t care less whether I live or die. Why else would a father let his daughter be taken by some seriously scary guys like she’s nothing more than a piece of collateral?

They charge out of the house into the crisp snow that is falling heavy now, with me still slung over Samuel’s shoulder.

What kind of Christmas Eve is this?

I was about to escape to my room with my book in hand for the night. I was going to watch this snow falling from behind the safety of my paned glass window in the quiet of the house next to a glowing fire.

Now I’m in the hands of deadly men who I can’t trust. I shiver, and one of the guys throws his jacket over me. Well, at least there's that.

They may be killers, but at least they aren’t totally heartless.

Samuel puts me down and we walk in silence through the snow to their car, his hand returning to wrap firmly around my arm to keep me from escaping. Like I would even try. I know they’d probably just shoot me like they shot Mary.

Now I’m shivering from fear, not from the cold or some temporarily insane physical response to these men. What did my dad just do to me? What am I in for?

Chapter 3

Samuel

Christmas is such a hassle.

Of course all of this had to happen on Christmas Eve, didn’t it?

And it’s snowing.

I tried to explain I didn’t need to be there, I could just wire in from my room on the video watch I ordered for Ares, but Archibald ‘insisted,’ and when he insists…well, let’s just say you don’t refuse him.

I’m at least happy to be back in the limo where it’s not as fucking frigid as it is outside. But now we have to babysit this girl too.

She’s fucking hot, sure, but Kaden insisted we tie her up. She wasn’t even struggling, but of course he wants to tie her up and gag her, right? That’s totally his thing.

Though I’ll admit, she looks pretty fucking nice bound and gagged over on the seat. Easy access, wouldn’t take any effort to get a good taste…

I sigh to myself. Business first I guess. I tap the grey metal mechanism hanging off the seat next to me and lean back as a desk slides out perfectly in front of me. The computer screen pops out slowly, and I stare impatiently; sure, it’s state of the art but does it really need to take so long?

Caroline’s info is already on the screen and populating. A few keystrokes and I have the exact information I’m looking for.

“Alright, alright…driver’s license, Social, easy peasy. Dunno why we need that when I can just go right to her bank info myself, but whatever. And…okay, Vasser University student profile. Full course list, teacher names, full record. 4.0 GPA?” I glance at her with an arched brow. Smart too? So fucking hot. “Overachiever I guess. Oh, what’s this?”

Caroline stares as I rattle off her entire life from my computer screen.

“Ohh…what is this?” I say, licking my lips. “A sweet little girl like this spending two hundred fifty dollars at Victoria’s Secret?” Caroline’s eyes grow wide, and I grin. “Maybe we should get a little peek at what kind of secrets Victoria gave you, hmm?”
