Freya
All of my life I've been a burden. My father didn’t love me. Hated the way that I looked. Spent all of his time trying to convince me to change. Brothers who bullied me. And a mother I never knew.

Marrying Victor Abdulov is the only truth I know. But, a past I didn’t know about is going to get me killed. I hated my husband, until I fell in love with him. I never got to tell him, and now it is going to be too late.

Victor
I did not want a wife.

I did not want to fall in love.

I just wanted to be a Brigadier and serve Ivan Volkov. He had given me the chance to make shit right. But, my wife is so much more than I could have imagined, and I was a dick to her. I need to make it right. People are out to take her from me, and I am willing to follow her to the ends of the earth to keep her alive.

I didn’t want her, now I don’t think I can breathe without her. In vows, we always say, until death do we part, because we expect a lifetime together—not a love that ends before we know it

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Freya

“You need to make a run for it.”

I looked toward The Butcher in a sense of panic. There was no way I was making a run for it.

“You’ve got to be kidding me?” I asked.

“Look, I don’t know how many men are coming through those doors, and as much as it kills me to say this, I’m no match for them. One or two, or damn it, maybe even four, I can take, but all of them all at once, that is not going to work. We’re as good as dead.”

I knew what she was telling me but I just couldn’t accept it. “Come with me.”

The Butcher had always been nice to me. Always, from the start of my marriage to Victor Abdulov. She’d never had a bad word to say, and rather than allow me to dwell in a loveless marriage, against all odds, we’d formed a solid friendship.

We were worlds apart.

She was a trained killer. Merciless. Hardcore. Stunningly beautiful, and yet warm and ... so many other things as well. It was a crazy feeling, but I actually believed she would make one hell of a momma. I know, strange, considering we’re in one of the scariest situations of my life right now, not exactly appropriate to be having kids.

I was the unwanted nobody. The daughter to a man who couldn’t stand me. Freya Harris. Supposed daughter to a billionaire bachelor, who had a couple of sons who grated on his nerves. Then, me. The mousy brown-haired, brown-eyed daughter, who had a penchant for sewing, knitting, and my one saving grace to him was my love of makeup. He thought it would make me want to have plastic surgery, so he could mold me into the daughter he actually wanted.

Nope.

Didn’t want to go under the knife. First, I hate needles, and I also happen to hate pain, even though my face felt like it had exploded. One of my eyes were slowly closing shut from being punched in the face. Not to mention the split lip I know I also had, which sucked.

There were a lot more bruises as well.

Prior to The Butcher coming for me, I had been beaten. Maybe I was over my fear of pain. I tried not to put my hands to my stomach, because I already know from the blood coating the camel pants I wore, that I had lost my and Victor’s baby. I was not going to cry. Now was not the time to cry.

“I can’t,” The Butcher said. “I’ve got to slow them down.” She moved toward me, gripped the back of my neck and pressed her forehead against mine. “Listen to me, you’re the one, the first, the only best friend I have ever had. Our friendship means everything to me. I love you, Freya, as a friend, I love you. But, you’re more precious than I am. Shut the fuck up, and listen to me. This is what I am designed to do. This is what I was created to do. You know my story. I told you. Now, let me do what I am good at.”

The tears started to fall although I did try to stop it.

“Please,” I said. “Pretty please.”

“You need to go.”

“They’re going to kill you,” I said.

“I know.” The Butcher took a step back, and then there was this smile on her face. To anyone that didn’t know her, they would think that smile was everything. It did seem to light up her whole face, almost as if she was excited about the prospect of killing today. Knowing The Butcher, whoever came through that door was going to die. No questions asked, but ... she was not going to make it. The Butcher was going to die today. She knew it. I knew it.
All I wanted was to be free, to not be scared anymore. Was that too much to ask?
I was the unwanted bastard daughter of Finn Byrne. Many feared him and women loved him. My mother didn’t want me, but my birth kept Finn coming around.
After being used as a punching bag for most of my life, I decided to run. The first mistake I made was staying in a small town. The second mistake was falling in love with a guy I barely knew.
Peter lied to me. He manipulated me. Ivan Volkov gave him a job to do, and that was to make me fall in love with him, and get me pregnant. Well, he did all of those things, and I hate him for it, and I love him for it.
I also discovered I’m a wealthy woman. It would seem my grandmother didn’t like her son, nor any of his offspring, but she did like me. I’m the one who has control over the Byrne empire.
And I have a choice to make.
When the time comes, I can choose to leave the Volkov Bratva forever and have my freedom, or I can remain Peter’s wife. I love him, but he doesn’t know how to love me. What choice do I have?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Niamh

I always knew I was going to die. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it was going to be like this. Staring at the man I thought I’d fallen in love with while my father pointed the barrel of a gun at the back of my head, the last thing I want to do was cry. Tears were signs of weakness. Even though throughout my life there have been many times I’ve wanted to succumb to tears, I’ve always stopped myself. If it wasn’t the memory of my mother, it certainly was the memory of my father.

I thought I’d gotten away from all of this, but that was the illusion. There is no getting away from the past.

The urge to scream was so strong, because of the pain in my body. It had been a long time since I took a beating like this. I didn’t know what was worse—the fact that I hoped I’d get something out of this, or the pain of looking at the man I thought I loved. There was nothing good about any of this. There was only pain and suffering.

Anyone would think I’d be used to being lied to. Nope. It would seem I’m still a sucker for lies, for the falseness of people. Look at what trust and love did to people.

I was forced to my knees on a dirty floor. The scent of dirt, shit, and piss filled every one of my senses. I had to control the urge to vomit. The gag they’d tied across my mouth dug into either side, and I was pretty sure blood dripped from my nose. One of my eyes was swollen shut. I think that came from the first punch, courtesy of my father.

In the last twenty-four hours, I’d been hit, kicked, spat on, called every single curse name in the book. I was pretty sure my wrist was broken, possibly a few ribs, my heart, and if I was completely honest, my entire soul was a shattered mess on the floor.

There was simply no way back from this.

It didn’t matter that the man before me held a gun, and it was unwavering. This was new, I was used to men being terrified of my father. Not Peter. No, he wasn’t afraid of anyone.

According to my father, this man was a monster, and nearly rivaled that of his boss, Ivan Volkov.

I didn’t know who Peter really was. I thought his name was Peter Shadows. I should have known it was a fake name. It was ironic, because I couldn’t criticize him for using a different name. My own was indeed fake.

Niamh was real. I was not Niamh Long. No, I was Niamh Byrne, daughter of Finn Byrne, who happened to be the head of the Irish Mafia. I’d not kept up-to-date with all the lingo.

For as long as I could remember, I’d wanted out of this life. I’d wanted far away from it.

I’d tasted freedom for just a short time, but I knew what life away from death, pain, and chaos was like. One thing was certain: I would never have that taste again. Death was a guarantee for me. There was no way I would see tomorrow.

The saddest truth to date, after everything I’d learned, was I didn’t want to see tomorrow. There was nothing worth living for.

Chapter One

Peter

Six Months Earlier

I’d tried to come up with a million different reasons why Ivan didn’t need to meet with me. Even though shit had seriously hit the fan, Ivan asking for me personally, and alone, was never good. The secret location also wasn’t good. So far, I’d made it out into the middle of fucking nowhere. My soldiers hadn’t been allowed to join me.

There wasn’t even a chance for me to write a goodbye note. I didn’t know if this was Ivan going off the deep end and killing his Brigadiers. My loyalty was without question. In the last few years, he did have a change of heart. At one point I was engaged to a horrible heiress slut, who I couldn’t stand. It wasn’t long after a meal with Slavik and his wife Aurora that all engagement and ties changed. This was a relief to me.

I couldn’t stand the wife that had been chosen for me. She was a giant slut, which wasn’t the problem. No, it was her nastiness and deep-seated evilness. I did happen to understand her, but I didn’t like her. Fucking her had been easy. Sex always was, even if I didn’t like the woman. Whenever Ivan needed information and it came from a woman, I was more than happy to provide. Sex was the easy part in helping Ivan become number one.

I’d do anything for that man. There was no limit, because I knew Ivan was a great man. Someone worthy of dying for.
I was the mistake.
A piece of trash.
No one wanted me.
All of my life I’d been told this. I meant nothing. I was nothing.

The Volkov Bratva made a mistake. They kidnapped me and it should have been my sister. My father wanted me dead. I expected Ivan Volkov to kill me. Instead, they killed my father, and now I’m to marry Ive Yahantov, a brigadier. I’m to be his wife. The man hates me. He doesn’t want me.

I don’t know what changes, but I go from being ignored, to being with Ive all the time. We share everything. The life I thought was only ever going to be that of a dream, becomes my reality. I’m falling for the man I thought I would hate. But nothing is ever certain. Ivan Volkov faked his death, and the repercussions of that is far and wide. My husband has enemies, and those enemies, they’ve come to collect.

I knew I was going to die young, but I had no idea life could be so cruel. I knew peace. I knew love. I knew happiness, and now, it was all going to be taken away.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Lottie

There are many rumors surrounding my conception. It’s rather strange to think about, especially as I stood between Rage and my husband, and their enemies. My life hung in the balance. I shouldn’t have been taken, I know that. I’d been in the wrong place at the wrong time. The story of my life. The mistake.

One of the rumors: I was the daughter of a rat, a woman who intended to spill the Evil Savages MC club secrets. My father, Demon, who is now deceased, killed her and took me in, which is why he hated me so much. The other tale was that my father had fallen in love with a woman. I’m not quite sure if she was a club whore or someone who had nothing to do with the club. She died giving birth to me, and as she passed in Demon’s arms, his hatred for me was cemented.

My father is dead. His legacy of hatred for me lived inside myself.

Staring across the dirt, I looked at Ive, my husband. His real name is Ivan, but he never used that name since his boss, Ivan Volkov, had the same first name. He changed his to make life easier, or so he said.

Each side had guns. Rage and Ive on one side.

Their enemies, I’m not exactly sure of their names, are who I have to thank for the blurry vision, broken ankle, and broken wrist, which I hold against my chest.

It’s strange. I’d not been beaten by my father for some time, and yet, when the pain had started once again by my captives, I’d retreated back to that special place.

Ive never missed. He told me that.

From the moment I understood who I was, what I was, I knew I’d die young. Demon’s temper made sure I knew that. I couldn’t help but feel sad and angry at the same time. I expected to die young. I was nothing. I was trash. Why had I been allowed to be happy? This wasn’t fair. I didn’t want to know what I was missing out on.

Ive was not a nice man. He was cruel and had a temper, but he was the kindest person I’d ever met, which said a lot. Before him, Rage and Cassie were the only two people who were nice to me.

“Lottie!”

As if my thoughts had conjured her, I saw a car pull up, and there was my beautiful sister. I heard the panic in her voice, and I knew why. I was standing between two sides at war, with guns raised. The moment they started to shoot or if I moved, I was going to die. My heart raced and I felt sick to my stomach.

“You’re Volkov now, Charlotte. That means nothing will ever happen to you again.”

I’d believed him.

Looking away from my sister, I turned to Ive. We couldn’t stand here forever. For one, my feet were getting tired. I couldn’t stand on one foot forever. Two, I couldn’t be selfish.

The moment I put pressure on my broken ankle, I wouldn’t make it. I couldn’t run to him, I couldn’t do anything. They knew it. When they did the damage to my body, they had laughed, knowing it was going to be the end for me.

At least I had memories. Christmases. Valentine’s Day. Halloween. Thanksgiving. Even a couple of summers of being happy. I could live with that. It was better than nothing.

The one thing I know from my short existence: life is real fucking cruel.

I took that forward step, but my ankle couldn’t take the weight. I screamed, but the sound was drowned out by gunshots.

Chapter One

Ive

Three Years Earlier

I didn’t want to get married.

Not that I had anything against women, I just … didn’t want to marry one. I loved having my freedom. There were plenty of women available and I’d never considered myself a monogamous man. I loved variety. Also, if I saw a lot of women, none of them ever had any delusions that they were anything more than willing flesh.

Yet, here I stood, on my wedding day, staring down the aisle, trying to control my anger.

Ivan Volkov had my loyalty. I would die for him. I would do anything for him. If he told me to take a bullet, I wouldn’t even hesitate. My life was completely indebted to him. When he told me I’d be marrying the unwanted daughter of a previous Evil Savages MC club President, I had hoped it was a joke. I knew he’d gotten Slavik married, as well as Andrei, but not me. I’d been next.

Running a hand down my face, I check to make sure there are no visible threats. A wedding was supposed to be a joyful event, but with Ivan in my territory, and being the man he was, he had a lot of enemies. Myself included. Some people were stupid and there had been incidences of attacks at events like this.
I was never supposed to marry Andrei Belov. He was meant to marry my beautiful sister. But she did something very wrong to have the man in charge of the Volkov Bratva change his mind.

Now I’m married to a man many call a monster. He ignores me. I mean nothing to him.
I’m trapped and alone in a loveless marriage. My parents don’t care. They have what they want. Andrei doesn’t like it when I have friends. He doesn’t like it when others take care of me. He claims not to have slept with my sister, but Bethany is still around to cause me trouble, to make me doubt.
It all starts with a kiss to get what I want. If I kiss him, I’ll get a reward, but soon the game changes.
I’m Andrei Belov’s wife. In this world, no one is safe, especially not me. I didn’t know it, but I have an enemy, one that wants me dead no matter the cost. I wasn’t supposed to marry into this family, but now, there is no way out.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Adelaide

I always thought I’d live a long, happy life. Death wasn’t something I ever thought about. What was the point? It was inevitable in old age. There was no way I saw my life ending early. I wasn’t someone who ever made waves or caused any problems. I always helped where I could. For want of a better description, I was the epitome of a good girl.

Take the last few months, for example. My life changed completely with one greedy decision. My family were heavily involved in the media. Daddy considered himself a bit of a know-it-all when it came to what sells. Money made the world go around for him. It’s how he landed my ex-model of a mother, where he was, to put it nicely, an asshole. They were considered to be like chalk and cheese, and to be honest, if it weren’t for my father’s wealth, my mom would never have looked at him.

She was a shallow person, still is. Age hasn’t changed her outlook on life—just her beauty—which has come at the cost of her ability to move much of her face. She looks youngish, if people were plastic. So, money was necessary in my mother’s life, and then I’ve got to think about my father.

He loved money.

He loved power.

They were well-suited for each other in that regard, but while they were spending all this money, they were not making it. My father’s family business slowly started to decline and rather than take the warnings his financial aides insisted on, he ignored them all, and just did what he wanted to do.

As far as he was concerned, there was no shortage of juicy gossip. But he didn’t realize that people had so many other avenues to find what they wanted. My father’s business went into the toilet very quickly. I’m not sure exactly when the harsh reality of what he’d been doing struck. It could’ve been when the debt collectors came calling. The expensive cars he’d never driven, but bought just to flash how wealthy he was, or not, in his case. Possibly the scene caused by my mother at one of those branded fashion boutiques because her credit card was denied.

I’ve also forgotten to mention another important piece of the puzzle: my lovely sister Bethany. She’s not lovely at all. In fact, many would call her a spiteful bitch, but she’s beautiful, and I’ve watched many men fall over themselves to impress her. She inherited our parents’ need to spend money.

Why am I thinking about all of this? Well, as I look at my husband, his chest heaving as pain explodes in mine, I can’t help but think about what led me to this moment. What drove me to this abandoned warehouse, where my husband Andrei Belov was hurting my best friend, Nathan. I don’t know who sent me the details, but it came through as a text that my presence was needed in this place.

I am not an idiot.

From the moment my father called me back to his mansion and told me I was going to be marrying Andrei Belov, there was no hiding just how desperate my parents had become. Their thirst for greed and power led to this moment. He was supposed to marry my sister. She was the most beautiful, the loveliest. All my life, that was what I heard.

“Why couldn’t you be more like your sister?”

“Why do you have to be ugly and fat?”

In the beginning, it hurt. No daughter wanted to hear those nasty words from her mother. How she’d pull on my hair in anger because I wasn’t perfect. It’s why I’ve been able to escape most of the press chasing after me. While my parents were happy to pose for pictures with Bethany, they kept me home, locked me up, like I was some dirty secret they couldn’t get rid of.

Until I became their one saving grace. Bethany messed up big time. I was not exactly sure of the full details, just that her marriage to Andrei Belov was off, and well, the only remaining daughter was me, so guess what? I was the one walking down the aisle with him.

Bethany hated me for it.

My husband wasn’t a good man. No, he was a man aligned to the Volkov Bratva. Ivan Volkov to be exact. I’d heard stories of how deadly they were. Again, I don’t know how my parents got close to this deadly man, but here I am, pain exploding in my chest.

Before I fall to the ground, I gasp.

Pain.

Unbearable pain.

For some reason, I think back to my wedding night. Bethany had told me how cruel Andrei was. How he’d make me bleed, cut me, make me wish for death long before he’d grant it. I’d never been so scared.

Pain was the one thing I couldn’t stand.

My life was destined to end this way right from the start. Staring down the barrel of a gun, pointed at me by my own husband, I was shocked that I was so important that one of the worst men in the Volkov Bratva needed to kill me. The moment I married into this world, my days were numbered. The fact I’d lived this long was a miracle.

Tears filled my eyes, and I hated that they made me look weak.

I wasn’t surprised that I was the one on my knees. It took every ounce of strength not to give anything away. Would he kill me if he knew the truth?

I’d never betrayed my husband or Ivan Volkov, the leader of the Bratva, my husband’s boss. The moment I’d been with him, I’d been loyal to him, to the entire organization, but it meant nothing now.

My husband wasn’t known for his patience, and I was shocked I wasn’t dead already. It wasn’t like he wanted to be married to me. Like so many things in my life, I was the second-best choice. The real woman he probably wanted was my sister, Isabella. The beautiful one. The one my father couldn’t bear to sacrifice to the disgusting Bratva bastards. Me, Aurora Fredo, the second daughter, the ugly one, I was the one he gave up freely. All my life, it had been so easy for everyone around me to pass me by.

I was friends with many but not cared about at all. Kind of crazy. I was the nice one. The one people said was sweet and kind, but didn’t give a shit about. I was the one they didn’t invite to parties, or they spent more time ignoring me. It was something I’d gotten used to.

My family was worse than that. I was the embarrassment. When we went to dinners, I was placed so far away from them, people had no idea who I was.

Passed over, time and time again.

On my wedding day, men gave their condolences to the man who stood before me.

A peace treaty.

Something new and never before heard of. Ivan Volkov was determined to set about a new era, a modern world for the Bratva, but to do that, for one section of the States he controlled, he needed his head man, his brigadier, Slavik Ivanov, to bring a conclusion to all the bloodshed with the mafia family.

I was the sacrifice in that mafia family.

Our marriage drew peace between the Italians and the Russians, supposedly.

The moment my father placed my hand in Slavik’s hand, my fate had been sealed and along with it, this moment.

There were times I thought it would be different. He’d made me believe I meant something, but like always, I was second best.

I wasn’t important.

I wasn’t loved.

I wasn’t worth anything to anyone.

I’d lived with this knowledge for years. Some days, I could pretend it didn’t matter, that I wasn’t hurt by it. Then something would happen, a statement, an action, and it would awaken all the wounds I kept hidden.

Now, it was finally going to be over.

I closed my eyes and waited for the inevitable bullet that would finally end my miserable existence and set Slavik free.

Chapter One

Aurora

Ten months earlier

The party was boring.

Women stood in their little groups, gossiping amongst themselves. Some of them glanced in my direction. The Italian mafia-made men mingling with the same version of the Russian ones. I wasn’t exactly sure of the full details as to what they were all called. What I did know was Slavik Ivanov, my husband, was like the Capo in his world. Even though we were parted by twenty-one years. He was forty years old, and I was nineteen, but in this world, age didn’t matter.

Sipping on my champagne, I held the glass in my hand, counting to ten repeatedly to try to calm my nerves.

I’d been married a week. The event had been a huge success. The press had been there to take pictures and to announce it in the paper. My father hadn’t wanted to give my perfect, beautiful sister to such a man, but me, he had no problem. Put my hand in Slavik’s and ignored me for the rest of the day.

Even the following morning, I’d done our family proud by bleeding. On our wedding night, my husband had made me bleed. I was sure a lot of virgins did on their first time.

The night itself was kind of a blur.

Slavik and I didn’t talk.

No words were whispered or spoken out loud. To anyone who’d look at us, we’d been nothing more than perfect strangers. He hadn’t touched me since, which was a blessing. In fact, at night, I slept alone.

The pain had been … well, it wasn’t something I wished to repeat.

When we’d gotten to the room, he’d pulled the covers back, tore my dress off with his knife, and I’d lain down and closed my eyes as he climbed on top.
