The Renegades #4 Romantic Suspense Enemies to Lovers Action MM
“This is it, baby. Run.”

The murder in Joel Hayward’s eyes wasn’t merely a reflection of the rage within. It was a promise to the men who had kidnapped his daughter. The one person—this amazing slip of a girl—who showed Joel every single day that there was good left in the world.

He was running on fumes. He was desperate. His closest companion was…Elliott. His ex-wife’s older brother. Okay, once upon a time, the man had been a lot more than that, but somehow they’d become mortal enemies instead. Frankly, Joel didn’t give a flying f— He didn’t care if Elliott made it back alive. Or so he kept telling himself, as the pain intensified with each day he couldn’t hold his little girl in his arms.

As they got closer and closer to their target, one lead at a time, the men prepared themselves to go to war.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

Joel Hayward

“Daddy?”

“Yeah, baby?”

“Are you a coaster?”

I grinned and eyed her in the rearview. “I think you mean Coastie. I’m in the Coast Guard.”

“Huh.” She twirled a piece of hair around her finger and looked out the window. “I’m pretty sure Gammie said coaster.”

I shook my head to myself. I guess I was a coaster.

A slew of curses rushed through my earpiece, and judging by the anger from River and Reese, the man with a bag over his head currently being escorted to the center of the amphitheater was their Shay.

Reese growled under his breath. “I’m gonna kill all of them.”

“We will.” Greer spoke in a low, threatening tone.

I inhaled deeply and adjusted my scope, keeping Shay in my sights. I was about…fifty-six yards away from him.

“Everyone in position?” Emerson asked.

“JH confirmed,” I reported, like the rest did.

All of us were standing some forty yards apart, in the thicket between the entertainment area and the outer wall. Only Danny was hiding out somewhere on the other side of the stage, and he confirmed his position too.

Two men pulled the bag from Shay’s head and uncuffed him, followed by harsh spotlights suddenly flooding the stage.

Knowing that not everyone had eyes on the guy—considering the marble stands blocked the view on the sides—I inspected the kid and gave a brief report. “Minor visible wounds, some bruises, gaze focused, he’s alert.” Dirty-blond hair, pale, tatted-up, muscles tense.

Thunder rumbled in the distance, and rain was just what we needed to really turn the Blanco estate into a muddy slip ’n slide. We were all covered in sweat, humidity, and grime as it was.

“Crew is on the second platform.” That was Elliott.

I clenched my jaw and shifted my scope to scan the surroundings. The bottom patio hosted primarily women and children. The second one—there. I saw Crew too. He was standing close to the balustrade, stare fixed on Shay. The men seated at the grand table behind Crew were in the process of standing up. Dinner was over. Time for the big fight.

Who could Mercier be? Cullen had shown me a photo of Crew, ’cause I couldn’t remember the kid from Elliott’s barbecue, but I had no idea what Adrien Mercier looked like.

“Where’s the Fed?” Thankfully, Greer had the same question.

“Tall guy right behind Crew, talking to the bald man in a blue suit,” Danny responded.

Okay, noted.

“Anyone got eyes on Marco?” I asked quietly. Because he was my target. He knew where my daughter was.

I kept seeing her face… Her wavy hair, her silvery-blue eyes lit up with mischief…

The light of my life.

I heard her too. Crying out for me, begging me to save her. Each sob was a knife to my heart, and the echoes of her agony distorted the images of her cute-as-fuck, happy expression. Wiping away the grins and replacing them with pain and fear.

“He might be on the third patio—I don’t see him,” Reese replied.

Fuck. We were on the damn ground; we couldn’t see that high up.

I blew out a breath and rolled my shoulders. We were running on too little sleep, and the general discomfort was fucking with my concentration. All I heard was the cacophony from the guests and the constant splats of waterdrops hitting leaves. Rainforests were never quiet.

Shay had been joined by more men, one of whom was speaking to the crowd.

Welcome to tonight’s entertainment!

You got a preview last night. Everyone excited?

Goddamn monsters.

They were done murdering. From now on, they served as my target practice.

Enzo and Marco Blanco were off-limits because of the intel they sat on, but that was it. The rest were going down. Not counting women and children, of course.

“I think that’s Enzo,” River reported. “The man walking up onstage now.”

I catalogued the old man’s features. He walked with a slight limp, not from an injury but possibly a bad hip. He looked to be around seventy. He soaked up the applause he received and spoke to their guests about the “American boy.”

Then the motherfucker announced another “warm-up,” and he fucking asked for volunteers. That sick son of a bitch. From what I’d heard, Shay didn’t lose. Enzo was sending young, inexperienced punks to a certain death.

“Motherfucker,” Reese whispered. “We need to—”

“Don’t even.” Danny cut in. “There’re too many children around, man.”

I checked my watch quickly. It was past midnight. According to Crew, most of the younger children were usually escorted to the village of villas past the entertainment area right around now. But that was more a guess than data. Crew and Mercier had been here twenty-four hours longer than us. We just didn’t have enough to go on.

Four young men took the stage, ready to challenge Shay in the warm-up, and everyone applauded.

Enzo Blanco left the stage, and I followed him through my scope until he disappeared up on the third patio.

“Suspected Enzo is on the third patio,” I said.
The Renegades #3 Romantic Suspense Action MMM
“It’s a fine line between not revealing your arsenal and creating disorder by showing your strength.”

Funny how calm you could feel when someone had ripped the heart out of your chest.

River and Reese Tenley had grown up on the fringes of society, spending most of their adult years as private military contractors in places nobody else wanted to go. It’d been the two of them against the world, and they’d never believed their missing puzzle piece had existed—until they’d met Shay. The young man who’d quickly become their everything.

So the moment he was kidnapped… The moment those sick bastards took Shay, the twin brothers had nothing left to lose.

The streets were going to run red with blood until they had their boy back.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

PROLOGUE

Shay Tenley

2023

“Everyone away from the house! Take cover! Away from the house!”

“Fucking run!”

“Out of the pool!”

“What the fuck is happening—” Frozen by shock and confusion, I didn’t know what was going on, not even when River suddenly hauled me off the pool lounger and dragged me away from everyone.

“Run!” he growled.

His voice was almost drowned out by the sound of an explosion, and then the whole fucking patio burst into flames. Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit. Not fire, not fire—I hated fire. Oh God. The smell of black smoke and something…other…invaded my nostrils. A loud crack followed, a sound I associated so exclusively with shooting ranges. Gunfire. What the fuck was going on here?! Everybody was scattering and screaming, and I couldn’t fix my stare on a single person without flipping my overwhelmed lid, so I just focused on River. Where’s Reese? Get to Reese! Bullets were flying rapidly, filling the air with ear-deafening, roaring pops. I ran away from the pool area with River by my side as my heart started pounding furiously—until I heard him grit out a loud curse drenched in pain.

My heart almost stopped, and I spun around to see him hunched over and clutching his side.

“River!” I rushed over to him—

“Keep going!” he yelled hoarsely. “I’m fine, baby. Just run!”

Fuck that!

In the corner of my eye, I spotted vans driving down the hill, and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. People I’d never seen before came out from every direction, most of them armed, and I acted on instinct when two of them grabbed at Piper, Elliott’s sister.

“Help me!”

“Get Dante and Reese!”

“Tariq! Somebody pull him out of there!”

I sprinted over to the woman as more shots were fired, and I body checked the first motherfucker before I punched the other one and managed to steal his handgun. I yelled for Piper to run away from the house. My brain bolted, spitting out questions and worries at a pace I couldn’t keep up with; Reese had to be inside the house, and he couldn’t fucking come out this way with the patio on fire. I had to get back to River—he’d been shot. Where was Gray? Holy fuck, there were too many guys attacking us. I found myself in another fight seconds later, and I barely paid attention. Fighting was as easy as breathing for me. I kicked, punched, and shoved, all while trying to locate Crew, Javier—there—Elliott, Toby, and the little girl…? Where was she?

At some point, I realized I’d lost the gun, but River appeared next to me, and he was holding it. I watched the split second it took him to lift the gun and fire two quick rounds, causing two men to drop dead on the lawn.

I swallowed dryly.

Adrenaline blazed through me like a wildfire.

“Get him!”

“Wake up!”

“Elliott!”

“Get Gray!”

“Run, Madison!”

I flew back all of a sudden, and my back hit the grass. Son of a bitch! I groaned in pain—but it came from my arm. Searing fucking pain in my arm, unlike anything I’d ever felt. The evening sky was blocked out by four men looming over me, and the gunfire rained heavy around us. I flinched and tried to defend myself, but they had fucking knives, and I screamed out my rage and pain and…fuck, all of it, as they stabbed me in the thigh and shoulder.

River Tenley

“We need more weapons!” I yelled.

Clutching the side I’d been hit in, I grunted and picked up the gun from the guy I’d just killed, and I immediately fired at the man who was seconds away from shooting Darius.

I was losing too much blood, too fast, for me to process everything going on around me. I spotted Reese with a wild look in his eyes, and he yelled at someone, for something. I couldn’t fucking hear over the rushing sound in my ears.

I had to get to Shay. I’d lost sight of him in the mayhem.

Fuck. I blinked, hit by a wave of dizziness. The smell of the fire, of fuel, burned wood, and explosives was almost too much to take. I thought I’d left that shit behind. Goddammit, where was he? I turned around, and my vision became unfocused.

“They’re hauling them out front!” someone shouted.

“They’re scattering!”

“Run after!” That was Dante. He had to be on the other side of the house.

Elliott and Crew ran past me in a blurry rush.

I sucked in a breath and followed them.

Reese Tenley

I sprinted down the hillside, cursing the fact that I hadn’t had the time to grab a gun from Elliott’s safe before I’d seen the attackers dragging my boy to one of the vans. Over my dead fucking body were they gonna do something to him. Fury and adrenaline rushed through me, and I saw only the two vans driving down toward the main road. Nothing else. He was in there, my fighter. They fucking had him. He was bleeding too. They’d hurt him. The image was seared into my skull—when I’d seen them through the window in Elliott’s office, blood gushing from Shay’s leg and arms.
The Renegades #2 Romantic Suspense Stockholm Syndrome Action MM
“The best intelligence is the knowledge that your enemy doesn’t know you have.”

Crew Finlay’s ego had taken a hit or two. He couldn’t lie. As a Marine, he’d been one of the best. As a private military contractor, he’d…messed up a bit. Or failed spectacularly. Whatever. And now? A year into his new gig, working in private security for Elliott Jones, Crew had a lot to prove. He refused to screw this up too. They had people to bring home. So when he found himself holding a cartel freelancer hostage, he steeled himself and vowed not to fall for the bastard’s lies. As if Crew would believe this man was an undercover Fed. Come on.

Nah, this tall, older drink of water was full of it. Adrien Mercier, or whatever his real name might be, was going down. Until one day, when Adrien turned the tables, and then Crew was the one sitting with his hands cuffed behind his back.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

Adrien Mercier

“I’ll be there in a few hours,” I replied. “Contact will be reinitiated with Petrov at midnight.”

“Copy that. Good luck.”

The call ended, and I pocketed my phone and got back in my car.

Five weeks. So help me God, I was going to be home in five weeks. I refused to disappoint Jack one more time. Those days were over. I’d…I’d give my all, my absolute all, to bring down the Blancos, but if I didn’t…so be it. I would walk away. I had to.

Crew Finlay

Was this a joke? Reese had fucking told on me? “I can’t believe this.” I trapped my phone between my shoulder and cheek so I could shove the clothes I’d picked out into my duffel bag. “You didn’t say anything to Mom, did you?”

“Fuck no,” Dad replied. “But you can’t blame me for being worried, Crew. Especially when you hardly visit no more.”

He had to throw that in there too. I was busy! And I kinda liked having most of my family back in Brooklyn. It was so far away from LA.

I clenched my jaw and kept packing my bag. So I’d fucked up majorly during my brief stint as a private military contractor last year. I’d blown the cover for both my partner and me, and we’d ended up in the cell next to the guy we’d been sent to fucking Belize to rescue.

“I’m not blamin’ you for being worried,” I muttered irritably. “I’m blamin’ Reese for rattin’ me out.”

I’d had to be saved like some fucking loser in Belize. I came from a family where almost every man had served in the Marines, so they hadn’t turned to the police or anything. Uh-uh, they’d planned their own rescue op. Dad, Uncle Greer, Uncle Kyle… And several of their friends, who were either former military or former private contractors. River and Reese, mainly. Friends of Uncle Greer.

It seemed I couldn’t turn around in this industry without seeing someone who’d been part of that rescue. It was fucking embarrassing.

Dad sighed on the other end of the line. “You’re gonna have to live with our fussing. You’ll always be our baby.”

“Urgh.” I stalked into my bathroom and grabbed some shit there too. “You’re supposed to coddle the youngest, you know. Not me.” I was the eldest among my siblings, for chrissakes. “I’m almost thirty.”

“You usually turn twenty-nine before saying you’re almost thirty,” Dad drawled. “Besides, we coddle all our babies.”

What-the-fuck-ever.

“Listen—”

“No, you listen.” He cut me off. “This isn’t a bad thing, son. It ain’t like Reese told me any details, so just look at it as a lifeline. Greer and I will know where in the world you are, and if shit goes sideways, we—”

“Can come to the rescue again. Yeah, I got that.” I was so fucking fed up with the overprotection. I got it at work too, though Elliott was more subtle about it. “I really gotta go, Dad. My flight’s in two hours.”

“Okay. All right.” He couldn’t conceal the worry in this tone. Story of my damn life. “You know I believe in you, right? You’ve never failed to make Mom and me proud, whether you was learning to ride your bike or when you served your country. And you better believe in yourself too. That’s important, you hear? Otherwise, you’ll hesitate when you can’t afford it.”

I knew that.

“Shit—Mom’s home,” he said. “I was supposed to tidy up in the living room.”

I snorted. Typical Dad. Big, bad Marine—drop him in any warzone, and he’d be fine. Mom was another story. He was so whipped for her.

“Be safe, okay?”

“I will,” I replied.

“Good. I love you. And say it back—don’t be all yeah, yeah, whatever.”

Fucking dick, he thawed me out. It was impossible to be mad at that oaf. “Love you too. Talk to you later. I hope Mom tears you a new one.”

“You say that like it’s a bad thing, son. It’s called foreplay.”

“Okay! And we’re done.” I ended the call to the sound of his laughter. Fucking hell.

Since my shitty little apartment was like five minutes from LAX, I made it with some time to spare. Now I just had to wait for my travel companion.

I dicked around on my phone as the seats around my gate filled up with passengers. We had to connect at JFK, and then we were on Delta to Nice in France.

It was pronounced Niece. I’d looked that up.

I wasn’t what one might call well traveled or remotely good at geography, unless we were talking the Middle East. I knew Kandahar, Fallujah, and Lashkargah like the back of my hand.

I’d spent most of my twenties there, re-upping as soon as I’d had the chance.

For as long as I could remember, I’d been chasing something.

I chewed on the inside of my cheek and studied the background photo on my phone. Still couldn’t fucking believe Toby was dead. I was supposed to have left all that behind me. A Marine lost friends in the desert, not outside fucking San Diego. At a barbecue, to boot.
The Renegades #1 Romantic Suspense Enemies to Lovers Action MM
“We will find you, darling. Stay strong. We will find you.”

This was exactly what Elliott Jones needed. A nice barbecue with family and friends. The moving trucks were parked outside his new ranch, and he was ready to start fresh. Again. Despite the regrets he lived with, he tried to focus on the good things in life. His niece Blake, for instance. She was his world. But after twenty years of working as a private military contractor in some of the most hostile territories on the planet, Elliott had made more than one enemy.
He heard the unmistakable sound of a rocket launcher, catapulting him and his closest friends into a nightmare of agony, rage, and determination. Lives had been lost, and three people had been kidnapped. Among them, little Blake.

Elliott would stop at nothing to bring her home again, even if he had to team up with his absolute biggest regret, Joel Hayward—Coast Guard sniper, the ex-husband of Elliott’s sister, and Blake’s stepdad.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

Elliott Jones

2023

“The ranch is freakin’ beautiful, Elliott. I mean, the ocean is right down there!” Gray gestured out the kitchen window.

I chuckled and dumped a bottle of beer into the bowl with meat and marinade. “You feelin’ cramped up in the woods?”

“Never.” He grinned. “But I do like the ocean.”

Yeah, no, he had it made where he was. But Southern California didn’t offer the same forested mountains that northern Washington guaranteed. He and Darius had built a home and a family up there, with nothing but evergreens, mountains, and springs for neighbors. And Darius’s brother, I reckoned. Ryan had bought land there too. Last time I talked to him, they’d just started building their little farm. Too bad he couldn’t make it down this weekend.

It was good to see Gray and Darius, though. Even more so ’cause they were gonna help me move in my shit. Two rented moving trucks stood in the driveway.

“I’m gonna go see what my hubby’s up to,” Gray said. “He’s probably inspecting your avocado trees.”

“Tell him he can bring home all the avocados he can carry after the weekend.” I wasn’t even kidding. I’d bought my new home because…well, I fucking loved it. It was a two-minute trek down a hillside to get to the ocean, and the back of my house had everything else. Nice patio with a barbecue area, a pool for when my niece visited, and half a dozen avocado trees I had no fucking clue what to do with.

My only plan was to constantly bring avocados to work.

Speaking of, those guys should be here soon. I checked my watch. I had plenty of tasks for everyone today and tomorrow; I’d only brought in mattresses and kitchen items. The rest of the house was empty. Oh, patio furniture too. Gotta have that for the barbecues. Before my weekend guests left on Sunday, I was sure the grill would be properly christened.

All right, foil-wrapped vegetable mixes ready for the grill, meats and sausages ready for the grill, a fuck-ton of potato skins ready for the oven—with leftover mash for tomorrow’s grilled fish. Bunch of sauces and dips in the fridge. Check me out, I could do this.

I grabbed a bag of chips and more beer, then headed for the backyard. Through the empty living room that would soon house my brand-new couch.

A fresh start. Damn, did I need it.

A guy could start over at forty-five, right?

That birthday had snuck up and kicked me in the gut just last week.

I sat down on the patio and twisted the cap off my beer. Gray had joined Darius over by the avocado trees where the mountainside crept upward again. My home sat on a mid-mountain ridge, alongside ten or so other properties, with plenty of space in between each house.

These mountains weren’t granite gray or majestic, but they were home to me. In all their yellowish, shrubby glory.

I took a deep breath.

So I was a little jaded and lost at the moment. I’d get over it. I had my new home. A place to start over. Granted, I’d still be in LA almost every day when I went into the office, but the forty-minute commute had given me the distance I’d craved.

One of the four bedrooms was gonna become a study so I could work from home a bit more. In reality, I didn’t need that many rooms, but after the isolating life I’d led for too many years, I was hoping for a lot of get-togethers.

I was closer to my sister and niece now too. If I had my way, they’d drive their butts up from San Diego every Sunday for dinner.

I wanted traditions.

Maybe a couple dogs and a cat to keep me company. I sure as fuck wasn’t venturing into the dating jungle again. I was done. So goddamn done.

“Gray!” I called. He turned toward me, some eighty feet away. “How about some music?”

He’d brought his Bluetooth speaker. My entertainment center and all that was packed up in one of the trucks.

“Absolutely.” Gray jogged over and ducked into the house.

Darius took his time walking back, eyeing the pool and the lawn, the trees and the hillside. “House looks great, Elliott.”

“Thanks. I think I’ll be happy here.”

He scratched his jaw absently and sat down across from me. “What else are you growin’?”

I grinned. Always the homesteader, that one. He and Gray had it all. Pigs, rabbits, chickens, crops.

“Not much,” I admitted. Yet, anyway. I might pick up where the previous owners had left off—and what they’d left behind. “Couple lemon trees, figs, and a random bed of dill next to the front porch.”

Darius shrugged a little. “It’s a good start. You won’t be getting any of that when you visit us. Except for the dill. I think Gray grows that in the herb garden.”

I shook my head, amused. The Darius Quinn I’d met some fifteen years ago had definitely wanted the secluded mountain farm and the crops—but the family? That was new. He used to shy away from commitment and attachments, claiming that he had enough siblings and nieces and nephews.
