From USA Today bestselling Author Cassandra Robbins comes an explosive, second- chance, age- gap, standalone love story about the dangerous Disciples enforcer and his fierce, secret obsession.
I’ve made two impulsive decisions in my life, and both have involved the notorious enforcer of the Disciples MC.
The first, I humiliated myself by spying on him. The second, I decided to throw caution to the wind and show up at probably the worst possible time.
He’s dangerous, demanding, and able to consume me with just one look. He’s also on trial for murder, and no one in his club trusts me.
You’d think I’d run. I mean, the cards are stacked against us. But I can’t escape my need, this all-consuming pull I have with him.
He may be wrong for me, but he’s the very force that brings me to life

Present day

Studio City, CA

“Christ.” Sitting up, I scrub my hands up and down my face and toss the sheet off me. I must have drifted, which should make me happy. My insomnia is bad, so any sort of sleep is good. My gaze drifts to the sleeping woman next to me. This is the one place I shouldn’t be. I drop my hands and look for my bottle of Jack, ignoring the pounding in my temples, even though it feels like someone took a baseball bat to my head.

Fucking timing. Good or bad, it’s everything. Last night I was drunk enough, with one shot too many to do the right thing, and failed to ignore her incessant texts.

Standing, I crack my neck and make my way to her table to retrieve my half-empty bottle. It’s suffocating being surrounded by all of Cindy’s crap. The stuff’s not practical, at least not for me. I’m like a bull in a china shop.

“Jesus,” I growl, battling a giant white orchid to reach for my bottle. The fucking thing has branches and blooms sprouting in all directions. She’s gonna bitch that I broke it, but what the hell?

Unscrewing the lid, I take a deep swig. Her delicate glass bowl of potpourri makes me feel like I’m dead, lying in my coffin. The dried spicy flowers are so pungent and sweet, it’s stifling. I can’t get a good breath in. Add in the smell of sex, and my pulse is throbbing in my temples.

I shouldn’t have come here last night. I’d blame it on lack of sleep and too much booze, but it’s more than that.

Loneliness.

Stings like a bitch. My curse, my hell that I’m destined to live with night after night.

I close my eyes against the pain. The burn of whiskey barely bothers me as I finish the bottle. Her face appears before me, so beautiful and clear.

My obsession.

Doesn’t matter how much pussy and other substances I use as a substitute for her, she’s with me day and night. Owning me. My heart is bound and chained to hers.

Time to finish this with Cindy. This should be easy. I’ve never lied to her. She knew the rules from the first night. Fuck buddies. But that one night turned into two, and things got complicated fast.

And now here I am.

Cindy believes she loves me. She doesn’t. Not sure she can put her issues aside to really love anyone at this point in her life. But that’s not for me to fix, and deep inside she knows it, even if she continues to cling to this toxic relationship we’re submerged in. She’s determined to keep it alive and breathing when it should have died years ago.

“Fuck,” I hiss, kicking aside her discarded clothes and locating my jeans on the floor. Pulling my cigarettes from the pocket, I light up and move to her balcony where I close my tired eyes and inhale deeply. The warmth of the sun and the cigarette lull me into a false sense of peace until I hear her voice, as if she’s here next to me instead of a ghost choosing to haunt.

Mom.

Her tortured face swims in front of me.

She knew.

I prop my hand on the glass door, not able to stop my past from taking another piece of me this morning. My mind is a powerful beast. I should know better than to fight it.

“You killed them,” my mom shrieks at me, clutching the phone. Her black hair is pulled back in a tight bun, and her dark eyes are wild. She shakes the receiver at me.

“Cursed. Diavolo,” she wails.

I back up and shake my head, “No, please, Mamma. This is not my fault!”

“It is.” Her tear-stained face makes her appear older than her age. “You should have been in the car. You were supposed to go, but you did not… and you… you let them go.” She stares at me as if she’s only now seeing me. Her face is filled with disgust and fear. Collapsing to the floor, she weeps and rocks back and forth, her hand wrapped around the crucifix on her neck, her other still holding the phone.

“Mamma, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” I walk toward her, but she screams, Italian dripping from her lips so fast I can’t keep up, but I don’t need to. I know what she’s saying.

Because she’s right. I did know, but I never said anything. They wouldn’t have believed me anyway. No one does, especially not my dad or my brother…

“Dead. They’re dead.” She drops the phone to lift her fist, chanting a prayer.

I shake my head and kneel with her to pray. Pray for why I’m cursed, why…

“You’re not my son. You’re not welcome in this house anymore. You’re a murderer. Get out, you Devil.”

Opening my eyes, I look down at my cigarette—it’s burned out. My fingers are stained yellow from too many nights of doing exactly this.
ANTOINETTE
Axel Fontaine has a giant…
At least that’s what everyone says. Unfortunately, it’s true.
All. Of. It.
He’s dangerous, scary, and addictive. Without a doubt, the last person I should fall for is the VP of the Disciples MC. I’m out of my league.
He’s a six-foot-four, blue-eyed biker god. I’m an ex-ballerina turned stripper who should run away. But how do you escape the one man who ignites your body and consumes your very soul?
Axel doesn’t do relationships. But I’m betting on ME to change his mind.

AXEL
I don’t do relationships. I don’t do drama, and I definitely don’t do love. I’m not Prince Charming. I’m the VP of the Disciples and the club is my family.
The last thing I need is a violet-eyed enchantress who smells like candy and has some sort of voodoo chemistry that’s messing with my mind.
She needs to go. She’s a distraction…a weakness I can’t have.
Men like me fall in lust, not love.
So, why is she still here?

Los Angeles, CA

My dick is vibrating. And not the fun kind of way. No, this is the annoying cell phone way.

I never have this problem because everyone knows I hate phones. I don’t get calls. I’m not that man. I get texts asking me to answer; then I decide if they’re worth it. The nonstop buzzing from the clubhouse to the Pussycat is not making me happy. Fuck it, let’s be honest: none of this makes me happy.

“Jesus Christ.” The vibrating has started again. I look over my shoulder as I back my bike into my designated spot.

Derrick, our manager at the Pussycat, is getting his knee fixed. He’s supposed to be on drugs, not disturbing me with nonstop phone calls.

I take a breath and try to get rid of my negative attitude. It’s not even Derrick I’m pissed at. It’s fucking Edge. He and Dolly had to pick this week, this moment to go on a honeymoon or some shit? Edge knows how Derrick is…

Turning off my bike, I pull out the device. “What?”

“Please tell me you’re there?” Derrick’s calm but annoyingly responsible voice drifts into my ear.

“It’s fucking eight a.m. Aren’t you supposed to be in surgery, man?”

“I’ve been waiting for two hours. Apparently they’re running late. And just so you know, I’ve been doing those hours for years. Now listen…” I want to groan. How many times do I have to hear Derrick say the same thing over and over? His martyr complex is getting old, especially since he loves his job. Loves getting up early and working all night. Blade and I pay him a fortune, and he also gets a percentage. The man is making more than when he was a professional wrestler.

“You need to get in there and make sure Crystal is nice. You know how she is. I spent a lot of time building that club—”

“Derrick, get sedated. I’m here. Don’t worry your pretty head.” I scrub my hand up and down my face already dreading the next two weeks or so.

I’m all alone.

Fucking Edge.

I glance around the parking lot. It’s nearly deserted, besides the bright red mustang parked in another manager spot. I have to fight the urge not to get back on my bike and ride in the other direction.

I’m not alone.

Nope. I have Crystal with me. I can barely tolerate her sucking my cock once in a great while. Having to work with her? Christ. I toss my helmet onto the handlebars and pocket the keys. Sweat drips down my back, the sun already baking me. My black T-shirt and leather cut suck in the morning heat.

“Don’t worry about Crystal. I can handle her.” Silence fills my ear and I’m about to hang up when he says, “Axel. She’s different with the girls, plays favorites. And with Georgia Peach running off, we’re short.”

“Relax, man.” I lean my head back, close my eyes, and let the morning sun beat down on my face as I count three, two, one. It helps.

“Do we need to go over today?”

Then again, maybe it doesn’t. I inhale slowly and exhale. Patience is not my strong suit.

“It’s fucking auditions, Derrick. I think I can handle spotting great tits and ass.”

“That’s exactly what scares me.”

I’m on autopilot listening to Derrick and his OCD list as I walk to the side entrance of the club. This is where all the VIPs and celebrities come in.

People fascinate me. They have this need to talk. I’m not even responding to Derrick. I could set my phone down and he wouldn’t realize I was gone for a half hour, maybe more.

Glancing around, I take in Downtown LA and marvel at Blade’s and my luck. We bought the Pussycat years ago, right when they were cleaning up certain areas. This particular spot was a dump, but I had a feeling. We bought it cheap, gave it a facelift. Now it’s nothing but a goldmine and 100 percent legal.

I reach for the black handle right as Manuel, one of our daytime bar backs, swings the door open.

His eyes grow huge when he sees he’s almost hit me in the face. Personally, I wish he had. At least I’d be able to get off the phone.

“Axel, sorry.” He freezes.

The smell of alcohol and garbage from the two trash bins he’s rolling out fills the air. I nod at him and hold the door as I motion for him to continue. Walking inside, I give my eyes a second to adjust from the sun.

“Axel. Are you even listening?” Before I can respond, he’s talking again. “I run a tight ship. I consider our club more than a strip joint—it’s the best strip joint. Our girls are gorgeous and sensual. They can dance and still look like they could walk the catwalk.”

I snort because now he’s getting carried away. We do have nice-looking snatch, but walking the runway?

I should’ve seen it coming… Never trust a Disciple. You have to sell your soul to the devil to get one to love you. I would. I did.
My name is Dolores Dunghart and I might have done the unforgivable.
And to those who bet on me.

DOLLY

Thirty-one years old

I’m cold, I think, or am I? My cheeks are on fire. The faint beeps and smell of disinfectant surrounding me make me want to curl into a ball and hide.

“It’s going to be okay. We’re all right here.” Doug reaches for one of my numb hands. His voice is annoyingly soothing, and I turn to look into his brown eyes. For some reason, though, all I see is blue. Ocean-blue eyes, that look at me as though I’ve finally destroyed us.

I gulp in some much-needed air if only to stop my twitching. I must focus on the now. Breathe in and out, I chant in my chaotic brain.

My teeth are chattering and I bring a shaky hand to my lips to still them. Obviously, my technique is not working. It might be making things worse. My head is pounding, and there’s a real possibility I might be having a stroke.

“At least we’re at the hospital.”

I must have voiced this out loud, because Eve responds, “Yes, he’s getting the best care.”

She sits on my other side strangling my hand. Jesus, it’s clammy, almost slippery. Any other time, I’d be horrified. Today… well, today everything’s changed.

Terror shoots up my spine. This can’t possibly have happened. I love him; I can’t have killed him. All of this isn’t real—it’s a nightmare. Or one of my fucked-up daydreams I like to partake in.

“I think that I have done something unforgivable,” I announce loudly to the room.

All talking stops as almost every person I love in this world turns and stares.

I scan their faces. They’re either looking at me like I need to be put in the looney bin, or they look rather annoyed that I called 911. But I panicked. After all, I fucking stabbed him.

I know Blade is unhappy, saying he has private doctors to handle delicate matters such as this. Whatever. I’m done for anyway. Might as well make it quick. Why drag out the agony?

The silence is deafening… so bad that I can count my racing pulse, the beats so fast I’m out of breath. My eyes dart around as I take in my surroundings.

I’m sitting.

I’m in the waiting room at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

The walls are cream colored with fake watercolors and a large flat screen droning on about all the horrors that happen in our world.

And Disciples.

They surround me in a show of rank. Blade made sure of that.

“Dolly?”

The concern in Doug’s voice makes me blink and lean toward him. “It’s weird how this room has green chairs,” I whisper. “All but one.” I motion with my eyes to a chair that Dewey is sitting on.

“See? That one is gray. All the others are green.”

His beautiful brown eyes widen as he looks at my face as if I have grown another head.

“Everything is how it should be,” I announce again, hearing voices say, “Jesus Christ” and “What the fuck?” in the background.

“It’s true. Tell them, Eve.” I nudge her with my elbow. “We heard it on a talk show. Everything is how it’s supposed to be.”

Jesus, I can’t stop saying crazy things. If I had a free hand I would slap it over my mouth, but I don’t.

“Which is ridiculous because really? Is this how it should be? I don’t fucking think so.” I let out a snort that ends up in a sob.

“She’s in shock. We need a doctor,” Doug screeches.

The room explodes with Ox doing more cursing along with Dewey leaping out of the gray chair to chant and mumble in the corner.

“Everyone relax,” Blade growls, his green eyes lasering in on mine.

“Dolly?” He sounds like he’s performing a test to see if I know my name.

“Yes?”

He rubs the back of his neck looking at me in that way that makes you feel like you’re really dumb and he’s really smart. I slide down in my seat and curl inward. If I make myself small, he can’t see me.

“Pull your shit together,” he snaps, causing me to sit up and Eve to pat my hand. Fucking Blade—he thinks he’s king of all he sees, yet he’s not king to me. I’m not part of this anymore.

I’m not.

I left, but more blood has been spilled.

Holy shit, I’ve become like them. Maybe you never do escape your past or upbringing. No matter how long I’ve tried to leave this life, the club I was born into, here I am.

I start to giggle but my eyes widen because what the fuck? I don’t giggle! So, I swallow it back before I scream all my truths…

First, not even the mighty, all-powerful Jason “Blade” McCormick can get me out of this mess. I don’t care if he’s president of the most notorious biker club in the West.

Seventeen years old–Los Angeles

Oh my God. The loud rumble of their bikes on our driveway prompts me to grab a tube of shimmery red lip gloss from my back pocket and slather it onto my lips. They’re my best feature, so I try to draw attention to them. As my breath stutters, goose bumps appear and my cheeks flood with warm heat. Stuffing the lip gloss back into my pocket, I reach for the People magazine one of the waitresses left yesterday and try to breathe. Butterflies swim in my stomach as I purse my lips and toss my hair to the side, accentuating my profile.

The doors to my parents’ diner swing open and he walks in. Maybe walk isn’t the right word: saunters, glides, struts, whatever. He’s so beautiful, so hot that it’s all I can do to keep my eyes focused on the magazine. I have no idea what it says. Geez, it could be in Spanish. Wait, is it in Spanish?

“Charlize,” my mother snaps, and I shift my gaze to hers.

“What?” I straighten, tossing the magazine on the counter. She stands and frowns, hands on hips. Her knowing eyes scan my face, which of course makes me flush even more. I look down at my chipped nail polish and wonder for the thousandth time why she’s so beautiful. I love her, she’s my best friend, but it’s hard to live in her shadow. Especially, when she’s blond and blue-eyed and I’m dark-haired with strange, yellowish eyes. My dad calls them gold; I call them weird.

“Go in the back and make sure Jessica is on. She can take care of those men.” She reaches for my arm as if I’m three rather than seventeen. Her long nails dig into me as I try to wiggle loose.

“Mom.” My eyes dart to the hot guys laughing near the “Please wait to be seated” sign. “Let go,” I hiss. Her slim frame towers over me, which is saying something. I’m not short, but with her heeled boots, she’s almost six feet.

“Seriously?” I eye her. She still holds on.

“You know Jessica isn’t on yet.” I jerk my arm free before she can say anything and squeeze past her straight toward the hostess stand.

“Jesus,” I mumble and try to catch my breath because one of these guys… well, let’s say I spend way too much time masturbating to thoughts of him. He’s my go-to guy when I need to get off fast. I pull my cropped top down and smile at them. Both of them are fucking hot. Tall and lean, they’re so ripped you can see their abs through their T-shirts. One is blond, the other auburn. The ginger has blue eyes; light freckles dust his tan skin. My guy has no freckles and smooth golden skin, a hard jaw, and piercing gray eyes. I shit you not, they’re gray, like a storm cloud. Almost silver. And full lips that I wish would kiss me. But that’s never gonna happen. This particular guy is taken. Nervously tossing the hair off my shoulder again, I concentrate on walking sexy.

“Hi.” The moment I say it, I want to die. It sounds pathetic and obvious. I grab two menus from the wooden pedestal that holds our seating chart.

“Hey.” His voice is deep with just the right amount of huskiness. God, I swallow, hearing a menu thud to the floor. Somehow, I will my gaze away from his hypnotizing eyes to process that not only am I staring like a creeper, I’m also looking like a klutz. Happy now that my hair is so long it falls over my face and hides my burning cheeks and neck, I bend down to get the plastic menu.

“Need help?”

Shit, shit, shit. He is unbelievably perfect. Even his smell is amazing… smoke and something. Maybe spice?

“No, thank you.” I pull a strand of hair that’s stuck to my glossed-up lips behind my ear.

“You sure?” He’s way too close. And my stomach flips as if I’m on a roller coaster.

Holy fuck, my eyes are aimed right at his crotch.

“Oh God.” I straighten up so that instead of staring at his junk, I’m back to his eyes. It’s so not fair. This guy is flat-out beautiful with tousled honey-wheat hair that’s altogether wild. His lean, muscled arms are covered in simple tattoos, unlike his friend who has colorful art all over his arms.

“Jesus, you two.” His buddy sneers behind me, reminding me that I’m making a complete ass out of myself.

I wave my hands and clear my throat. “So… follow me.” It comes out like a croak as I force my legs to move, one step in front of the other as I walk them to the Pulp Fiction table. Yes, my parents are actors, or used to be. My dad still is, or thinks he is. He still gets small roles here and there. I guess when he was younger, he made a living at it. At least, that’s what he tells everyone. Basically, his big claim to fame was a soap until they killed him off. Unfortunately, now his career is pretty much nonexistent, but he’s still holding on. I feel awful thinking this… but if he hasn’t made it yet, I doubt he’s gonna hit it at forty-five. Still, who am I to squash his dreams? Meanwhile, my mom did have a career and gave it all up when she got pregnant with me. She was on a popular sitcom. It’s how my parents bought our diner. But as soon as she got pregnant, my dad made sure she gave up her career, something I have to hear constantly. I mean, I love them both but wish they had made better decisions when they were younger. Maybe they would both be happier.
Blade McCormick is not a nice guy. He’s pure adrenaline and smells like smoke and leather—the kind of guy you look at and know he’s going to be a combination of nasty and irresistible. The moment I allowed myself to touch his hot skin and kiss his full lips, I. Was. Done.

Like currency, I’ve become part of a transaction. Blade took me to pay off a debt. I try to tell myself, Eve, you should hate him. He’s a bad guy. But then again, I’m not a good girl. Blade’s the president of the Disciples, the notorious motorcycle club. I should be frightened, yet somehow, he doesn’t scare me. If anything, I think I scare him.

It takes a lot of work to become the club’s Queen, but I’ll stop at nothing to have the King!
Present

“Holy shit, they’re coming.” Strike that—he’s coming! “Where the fuck is Benny?”

The dust cloud is so thick it’s almost suffocating. I close my eyes against the dirt to keep them clear.

“Never mind.” My voice is loud over the rumble and screeching of their iron horses. “Get to my dad before they do.”

The dark-haired boy named Santiago nods. His big brown eyes hold terror. He should be scared. Hell is about to burn us open. A small twist of guilt wraps around what’s left of my questionable conscience as I look at the dirty ten-year-old who happened to have the bad luck of working in my booth today.

“Go.”

He bolts under the counter and takes off like the boogeyman is after him. And maybe he is, or at least after me. I watch as dirt puffs up while he runs toward my trailer. My eyes scope the neon lights, the Ferris wheel, and the Tilt-a-Whirl. The rides still move; people are still laughing even though bad men are coming. Pushing open the counter on the side of my stand, I ignore the couple whining about the darts that I’ve dropped on the plywood floor.

“What the hell? I paid you ten dollars. Where do you think you’re going?” the stupid guy sneers.

The girl covers her nose, dust swirling and dancing around us as the motorcycles spin and skid in the parking lot.

“You two need to get out of here. Shit is going down.” I reach for my knife taped under the wooden counter, grab my backpack, and almost laugh at the horror on these two idiots’ faces. Truth be told, they are probably my age. But I feel ancient compared to them.

The guy slams his fist on the counter causing the girlfriend to gasp and jump. “This is unbelievable. I’ve heard you guys are scum, but you can’t steal my money and leave. I’ll call the cops, bitch.” His light brown hair is gelled back and he’s wearing skinny jeans. That fact alone should make me let the motorcycle club take him out. I heave the backpack over my shoulder and start to walk across the loud carnival area.

“Hey! You can’t do this, blondie,” the douche screams at me.

“I don’t have time for this,” I yell over my shoulder. “Get away from here. Trust me, that’s worth the ten dollars you gave me.” My hands clench at my sides as I watch the girl wisely pull the guy away. He’s still bitching about not being able to win a disgusting, moldy stuffed animal from China.

“Fucking pathetic.” I run across the long field checking behind me as I go.

“Benny… please be in the trailer, please.”

The sun is lowering and heavy metal music blares out of the speakers. I know in my heart Benny’s gone and more than likely not coming back. Same way I know this betrayal will be the final straw for me. As I exhale, the taste of dirt lingers in my mouth. My mind scrambles with all my options, but with my dad and his lack of mobility… I’ll have to take responsibility for Benny’s actions. They’re coming, and the only person I give two shits about in this fucked-up world is my dad.

Pushing my long hair behind my shoulders, I wish I had something better on. But who am I kidding? The bikers want their money. I could be wearing a ball gown, and unless it’s covered in diamonds, it’s not going to do me any good. Though I don’t know how much Benny owes them, I only have about $500 stashed away, and I can only pray it’s not as bad as I think. Tucking my head down, I run to my trailer. I don’t even get the door open when a tan tattooed hand grabs me and jerks me inside so violently my teeth chatter.

Blinking, I try to adjust my eyes to the dark cave-like feel of our trailer. The sound of wheezing comes from the corner and my eyes bolt to my father. His once-strong frame, now shriveled and weak, is slumped over in a sad excuse for a wheelchair. Another tattooed monster stands next to him.

“Jesus Christ! He can’t breathe without his oxygen.” I go to move toward him, but that tattooed hand is still wrapped around my arm. I twist back and forth, then stop as I realize it’s pointless. What I need to do is think and assess the situation. My dad’s oxygen mask is still on, but his skin is sweaty and pale, with an almost gray, waxy look. My tears burn as I watch my sweet father take small hissing breaths.

“Please.” I look around for the first time since I was jerked into the trailer and I’m stunned. It’s been completely ripped apart. They’ve torn off cabinets, thrown the microwave and TV on the floor, and split open all the furniture. That means our piece of shit couch and chair, along with Benny’s and my mattresses in the corner, are trashed. Feathers dance around causing me to shiver at how serious this is.
