Five sons, their perfect matches, and our family grows bigger every year. But this is our story—of how we met, fell, and grew our empire. This is the story of how we discovered the magic.

Lena

Stanley Riggins stole my heart back in high school. Our love blossomed amidst the chaos of life, surviving every challenge that came our way.

We married young, determined to face the world together. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat, because what we built wasn’t just a life, it’s a home—for us and our five wonderful sons.

Now that they have incredible wives of their own, they’ve given us a lively bunch of grandchildren, and our lives are filled with more love and laughter than ever before.

Stanley

From the moment our eyes locked, I knew Lena was the girl for me.

I finally felt the magic the Riggins men always talked about. Through all the ups and downs, our bond only grew stronger. We started a business and then a family. I couldn’t be prouder of our boys and the lives they’ve built with the women who love them as much as we do.

Having Lena by my side as we watch our love continue through the next generation is the greatest reward of all. It’s a true testament to the enduring bond we forged in those high school hallways. Year after year, and breath by breath, she’s still the one.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER

ONE

Lena

Seventeen years old. Where it all began.

Today marks the first of a new journey. A new school for my senior year of high school. I hate I had to leave all of my friends behind, but I understand why we had to move.

Six months ago, we lost my father to cancer. One day, he was this vibrant, full-of-life man, and the next, he was lying in a hospital bed as we said our last goodbyes.

I hate cancer.

My mom stuck it out to let me finish the school year, but the house was too big for her to afford on her own. My father had life insurance, but medical bills and the burial took most of it. So, that means my mom and I had to pack up our lives and move to a smaller house. That just so happens to be in a little town just south of Nashville. A little town that’s forty minutes from my old high school but closer to my mom’s work.

I didn’t scream and yell or act out like most kids my age. I understand why we had to do it. I don’t like it, but it’s what we had to do in order to be able to survive on my mom’s salary alone. She’s a nurse at a surgery center. She makes good money, or that’s what she tells me, just not enough. I understand this is what we needed to do.

I hate this move almost as much as I hate cancer.

Anyway, that brings me to this moment. I’m standing in front of the bathroom mirror, fussing over my hair. It’s my senior year, and I have no friends. I don’t know a single soul in this new school, and I’m nervous. When Mom asks, I tell her it will be fine, and I know that it will be. Life has a way of working out. What I don’t tell her is that my insides have been churning for a week, dreading walking into that school on my own.

“Lena!” Mom yells from the kitchen. “It’s time to go. You don’t want to be late on your first day.”

I sigh and take one last look in the mirror before turning off the light. I rush across the hall to my bedroom and grab my backpack. I do a quick look, making sure I have my house key, everything the school said I would need for today, and money for lunch. I’m supposed to report to the office to get my class schedule, and lists will be provided by the teachers for any other supplies we might need for classes.

“It’s only one year,” I mutter as I slowly head toward the kitchen where my mom will be waiting in her scrubs, with her brown hair pulled back in a ponytail and her tumbler of piping-hot, way-too-sweet coffee in her hand.

“You look beautiful.” Her eyes mist with tears as she smiles, and I give her a watery smile of my own.

Neither of us needs to say it, but we both wish Dad was here. He’s supposed to be here for this—to watch me start my final year of high school. I don’t let myself go there. I can’t think about all the things he’s going to miss. That’s an emotional journey I can’t take today.

Instead, I hike my backpack over my shoulder, grab the bottle of water and protein bar Mom laid out for me on the counter, and smile at my mother. “Ready?”

“You’re going to be great, Lena.”

“Of course I am.” We both know that my confidence is false, but neither one of us mentions it. Fake it until you make it or until the end of your senior year. You know, whichever comes first.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to drive you?”

Inwardly, I shudder at the thought. “Mom, I’m fine. You’ll be late for work. Besides, I can’t be the new girl who’s going to be eighteen in a few weeks and lets her mommy drive her to school.”

She laughs at that. “Fine, be safe. You have your house key, right?”

“I do. I’ll see you when you get home.”

“I love you, Lena.”

“Love you too, Mom.” I don’t stick around for more words. We’re both ragged with emotions, and we need to get on with our days.

Pulling open the door of my Jeep, I climb behind the wheel. Every time I do, I think of my dad. I can still remember the day he pulled up to the house in this Jeep. He got out and handed me the keys before wrapping his arms around my mother and kissing her temple. I stood there in shock while they smiled at me. He was healthy, then, but that changed not long after.

“Love you, Daddy,” I whisper as I start my Jeep and carefully pull out onto the road.
He’s wearing the same face-splitting grin my big sister, Aurora, has been wearing the last month. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve caught her staring at the rock he put on her finger on the Fourth of July when we all went away to the Riggins’s family cabin in the Smoky Mountains.

“Morning,” I greet him.

“Hey, Aspen. How are you this fine Friday morning?”

“Fine as frog hair,” I reply, causing him to chuckle.

“Do frogs even have hair?” He immediately puts up his hand to stop me from answering. “Never mind. I don’t want to know.” He chuckles. “Is Aurora in the back?”

“Yep. Today is cinnamon roll day.”

He groans in response, mumbling something about his girl smelling sweet, and disappears into the kitchen.

I get back to work, wiping down the counter from the morning rush. I’m just putting the cleaner away when the door chimes again. When I turn around, I see Marshall Riggins, one of Grant’s younger brothers, standing at the counter.

“What kind of delicious concoction do you ladies have for me today?” he asks, rubbing his hands together with anticipation.

“You know, if you keep making daily stops in here, you’re going to have to start hitting the gym a little harder.” I pat my flat belly, making him laugh.

“It’s worth it. Besides, I have to support my future sister-in-law.”

“And what am I, chopped liver?”

He taps his index finger against his chin, pretending to ponder my question. “You’re the bonus, Steele,” he finally announces. “We get Aurora and you, and my belly thanks you.” He bows, and I can’t hold in my laughter.

“You may stand,” I tease. “What can I get for you?”

“He wants one of these,” Grant announces as he exits through the kitchen door to join us with a cinnamon roll in his hand. “Trust me.”

“If the Steele sisters made it, I’m in. I’ll have what he’s having.” Marshall points to Grant’s hand.

“Here.” Aurora appears, passing him one. “Fresh out of the oven. It’s still warm.” Marshall takes it from her and leans in to kiss her cheek. He does the same to his brother.

“What the hell, Marsh?” Grant asks, wiping his hand across his cheek as if his brother just gave him cooties. “And keep your mouth away from my wife.”

“Oh, she’s not your wife yet, brother. I still say she’s going to wise up and pick the youngest Riggins.” He points to his chest before taking a huge bite of his cinnamon roll.

“I kind of like the middle man.” Aurora stares up at Grant with so much love in her eyes.

“I love you,” Grant tells her. He has the same look in his eyes as he smiles down at her.

“And here I thought the cinnamon rolls were sweet,” Marshall jokes.

“Nothing here at Warm Delights has anything on the sweetness of those two,” I tell him, motioning toward our siblings.

“Hello,” Marshall says, bringing his phone to his ear. “I’m at the bakery,” he tells the caller. “Sure. Yep. I’m on it.” He ends the call, sliding his phone back into his pocket. “That was Sawyer. She wants something sweet.” He smiles, shaking his head. “Box me up some of these.” He pops the last bite of cinnamon roll into his mouth.

“Coming right up.” I pull out two boxes and fill them up. The rolls are pretty big, though I know one box won’t be enough for all five Riggins brothers as well as Sawyer and Layla. Grant and Marshall might have had a taste here, but they won’t stop there. I don’t know how all five of them stay in such great shape, considering how often they stop here for a treat. Not that I’m complaining. Daily eye candy is not exactly a hardship. However, there are only two brothers who are available—Marshall, the youngest, who is my age, and Conrad, who is two years older than me. I feel guilty ogling the others because I love their wives, and well, Aurora is my sister, and I can’t be creeping on her man, no matter how innocent it is.

“I need to get to the office,” Grant tells my sister. “You pick a date yet?” he asks her, kissing the tip of her nose.

She throws her head back in laughter. “You asked me that this morning before I left for work.”

“Dude, you were up at the ass crack of dawn just to ask her if she’s set a date yet?” Marshall asks. By the tone of his voice and the pained expression on his face, he clearly doesn’t feel like that’s something he would do.

“Just wait, little brother.” Grant smiles easily. “You’re going to find her, and you’ll realize that you’ll do anything for a few more minutes of her time. And to get her to set a wedding date.”
Owen Riggins is too good to be true. The best things in life usually are. He’s good looking, generous and interested in me. Too bad someone like him and someone like me aren’t’ meant to be together.
He’s used to the best things in life, and I’ve grown up with the worst. Building a better life means working hard and staying on track, not falling for some sexy suit with a brooding stare who is just passing through.
Life has taught me not to trust, and even though I want him more than anything, I don’t need his charity or his love…

Owen
When a friend sends me to Florida to scout out a hotel, it’s the gorgeous waitress with a shy smile and worn-out shoes I can’t take my eyes off of.
Layla Massey is quiet, beautiful, and in need of a little help- even if she won’t admit it. A generous tip was meant to buy her some suitable shoes, not to buy her love. I want to earn that all on my own.
I’m used to women throwing themselves at me, the name, the money… but she wants neither. It makes me want her all the more.
Little by little, she opens up and piece by piece, she’s taking my heart.
I usually don’t mind the late-night weekend shifts. Tonight, however, has been a nonstop flow, and my feet are killing me. I know it’s my shoes; they’re a couple of years old, and I wear them every day that I work, which with all the extra shifts I take is a lot. Unfortunately, new shoes are not in the budget. Besides, the tips are always better on the weekends and especially at night. The more they drink, the more they tip. I live paycheck to paycheck, so every dollar counts.

“Layla, VIP suite, a party of one,” my coworker, Oliver, calls out for me.

I sigh. He knows damn well it’s his turn, but I bite my tongue, grabbing a menu and a glass of water and head that way. The VIP suite is always good for tips. It’s a small room of only ten tables that are spread out far enough to enjoy private conversations. I’ve seen more proposals in that room than I can count. My guess is since it’s a party of one, Oliver didn’t feel it was worth his time. He’s living on Mommy and Daddy’s dime while in college. He’s only here to appease them. That’s not me making things up—he himself will tell you. I, on the other hand, do not have the luxury of being that choosy. I take all the tables I can get.

The VIP suite is empty with the exception of a single man sitting with his head down, staring at the phone in his hands. “Welcome to the Emerald Entrée. My name is Layla. I’ll be your server tonight. Can I start you off with something to drink?” I ask him. I set the glass of water on a coaster and place his menu on the table. Grabbing my order pad and pen out of my apron, I wait patiently for him to look up at me.

“What do you suggest?” he asks, still looking at his phone.

His voice is deep and sexy. He’s in a business suit, but he’s removed his tie and unbuttoned the top two buttons. He looks officially sexy if that’s a thing. I open my mouth to give him my usual spiel about the filet mignon or the grilled salmon, but he looks up at me, and all the breath leaves my lungs. I stumble a little and have to brace myself by placing my hand on his table. He’s gorgeous. Dark hair, with a thick beard covering his face. Intense blue eyes that I could easily get lost in. I see lots of good-looking guys come in here daily, but this guy… he’s hands down the sexiest guy I’ve ever laid eyes on.

“Layla,” he says, his deep timbre giving life to my name.

“I-I’m sorry.” I then ramble off a few of our most popular menu items.

“Filet is fine. Well done, salad, no dressing, and broccoli,” he says without even opening the menu.

“And to drink?” I manage to ask.

“Water is fine. Thank you, Layla.” A smile tilts his lips as he hands me his menu.

“T-Thank you. I’ll have your salad right out.” I take the menu and rush out of the room. I get his order keyed in and grab a salad, along with a fresh glass of water and head back to his table. This time I’m more composed. “I’ll be back with some fresh rolls. They just need a few more minutes,” I say when I reach his table.

He nods his acceptance but doesn’t say anything. I can feel those blue eyes on me, and it’s unnerving. Pushing through, head held high, I manage to set his fresh water and salad on the table without making a fool of myself and spilling or dropping it. Then rush away.

“I’m heading out, you good?” Oliver asks me as soon as I step back into the kitchen.

“You’re leaving early?” I don’t know why I bother to state the obvious. This is nothing new for Oliver.

“Yep, all cashed out. The only customer left is yours in VIP. Doors lock in fifteen,” he says, waving over his shoulder.

My aching feet want me to shove my worn-out size eights up his ass. Instead, I take a seat at a table near the kitchen and start to roll silverware into our cloth napkins. Maybe five minutes have passed, but I feel like I should go check on blue eyes. With an internal groan, I stand and make my way to his table, which is in the back of the restaurant.

“I can take that for you,” I say, reaching his table. I grab his now empty salad bowl. “Is there anything else I can get you? Your meal should be right up.”

“Did you hurt yourself?” he asks bluntly.

“I’m sorry?” I stand a little taller.
Being CEO requires all of my focus, but I can’t stop thinking about the gorgeous woman from the plane with the gorgeous blonde hair and striking green eyes.
Well, that’s not the only good thing about it, but today, that’s my favorite part. I’ve been in San Francisco for a week, and I’m exhausted and ready to go home. Unfortunately, there were no direct flights, which means this is the second plane I’ve had to board today. Hence the early boarding. Shoving my carry-on overhead, I take my seat near the window, stretch out my legs, and close my eyes. This plane can’t take off fast enough for my liking. The company jet was undergoing maintenance. Just routine but essential for safety. I’m not opposed to purchasing another so this doesn’t happen again. I can hear my brothers now as they laugh and call me spoiled.

They’re not wrong.

As CEO of Riggins Enterprises, I have a fully packed schedule, and delays for things such as commercial flights can’t be tolerated. Besides, my brothers are just as spoiled as I am. They just don’t have the pressure on them, the future of the company on their shoulders. Owen, who is two years younger than me, is the only one who comes close as CFO. The financials are in his hands. Our younger three brothers all play a role in the company as well, but the stress, the worry, that’s all on me.

I feel someone take the seat next to me, but I keep my eyes closed and block out whoever it might be. I just want this plane in the air and landing in Nashville as soon as possible. The hustle and bustle of the other passengers boarding fills my ears, and while it’s annoying, that means we are one step closer to taking off.

Several minutes later, I hear a female voice ask, “Can I get you something to drink?”

“N-No, thank you,” a soft feminine voice replies. The voice is angelic and intriguing enough to get me to open my eyes and turn to look at my seatmate. Green eyes, wide with visible fear, capture mine. “I’m sorry if I woke you.”

“You didn’t.” I keep my reply short. I’m not sure if she’s a chatty Kathy, but I don’t need that on this flight. I just want to sleep through it and get home.

“I’m nervous,” she says, holding her hand out in front of her. My eyes watch as a slight tremble appears.

“First time?” I find myself asking. Why I’m not sure. I’m not a man who takes on casual conversation. No, I’m usually in my office or at home on my computer working. There is always so much to do. Running a multi-billion-dollar company doesn’t leave much time for casual anything.

Sadly.

I allow my eyes time to rake over her. She’s gorgeous. Not in that “she could be a supermodel” way. No, she’s naturally beautiful. From my first impression, I’d say she’s one of those women who has no idea that she turns heads wherever she goes.

“No.” Her reply is shaky. “Just not a fan of flying or heights for that matter.”

I nod, acknowledging her statement and close my eyes again. Surely, we should be taking off soon. It will be late by the time we land. I won’t be going into the office; however, I know I’ll have a hundred new emails to deal with, and I want to get started on reviewing the construction contracts that this trip was for.

We’re building a new facility in San Francisco, and this trip was to interview construction companies. I need to follow up with references and get the contract started, so we can proceed with the build.

“Do you fly a lot?” she asks. The tremble in her voice seems to be getting worse.

“Often enough. My job requires it,” I reply, but I’m not sure she actually heard me. Glancing down at the arm of the seat, I see her fingers gripping it so tight, her knuckles are white. The plane hasn’t moved. “What about you? Traveling for work?” I’m not sure why I’m engaging her in conversation. Something about her fear pulls at me, and if a little idle chitchat can soothe her fear, then I can handle that. Besides, I have a feeling she’s going to keep talking whether my eyes are closed or not.

“N-No. I actually got fired from my job.”

“Oh, yeah?” I ask like I’m interested when I’m anything but.

“It was a mix of me telling them to take the job and shove it and being fired.” She turns those wide green eyes toward me. Her chest rises and falls, a tell-tale sign of her anxiety.

“Which was it?”

“I quit, but it was made clear that my refusal to do what was asked would result in my termination.” Slowly, she exhales, trying to gather her wits.

“Insubordination.” I’ve dealt with a few of those myself. Disrespect in the workplace isn’t tolerable.

You know, pretend that you “accidentally” forgot to complete a task, when the truth is that you didn’t want to do it or didn’t have time? I guess that’s also called a little white lie. However you want to refer to it, I just committed the crime.

She left me no choice.

For over a year, I’ve been asking Samantha Wilson to go out on a date with me. Every time she turns me down. Although her words say no, I can see it in her eyes, she wants to. She’s stuck on this concept that I’m a player. Sure, I played the game on and off the field. Now that I’m retired, I’m ready for more. I want to settle down, and Samantha claims she doesn’t believe me.

I call bullshit.

She wants me, but she’s fighting it. I’m just a regular guy. I know it’s the fame that scares her. If she could only look past that to see the man, we’d be dating if not married by now. Yes, I know that’s a big assumption, but it’s also a big deal that she’s all I can think about.

I can still remember the day I first laid eyes on her. I had just announced my retirement from the NFL and had moved back home to Nashville. I was born and raised in Ohio, but my sister married a musician, and once she started having babies, Mom and Dad couldn’t stand the distance. They moved here soon after. I love the city and being close to my family. As soon as I announced my retirement, I put my house in Texas up for sale and headed home. Once I was settled in, it was time to connect with some old friends. Royce Riggins and I went to college together and stayed in touch through the years. I called him once I was settled, and we set up a time to have lunch.

That’s when I saw her. My Sam. With her long brown hair and those big brown eyes, she captured my attention immediately. And although she thinks I’m playing, I’m not. Sure, in the beginning, it was me seeing a beautiful woman and wanting the pleasure of her company. Now, it’s more than that. So much more.

That brings us to now. I stopped by Royce’s office earlier and purposely left my cell phone on the chair in his office. I wanted it to look as though it fell out of my pocket. The crime I told you about? That was my phone call to his office from my landline asking if I left my phone. Of course, he found it and insisted his assistant—my Sam—could drop it off. Apparently, she was dropping off some contracts and would be in the neighborhood. I knew all of this. He told me already, hence the reason I left my phone, hoping like hell this was how it would play out.

The buzzer sounds, letting me know that someone is at the gate. Showtime. “Yes?” I say into the intercom. I send up a silent prayer that my sister and brother-in-law Kacen aren’t outside in their yard to hear this go down. I bought a house on their street, along with the rest of the guys in Kacen’s band. It’s like our own little village. Kacen will never cease to give me shit over the beautiful woman who spent time at my place. Not that I really care. He was the same way when it came to my sister, Logan. He loves her fiercely and makes no apologies for it.

“Hey, player.” Sam’s voice cracks over the line. “I’ve got your phone.”

“Thank you,” I tell her, buzzing her through. I don’t waste time as I rush to the door to greet her. “There she is.” I smile as she climbs out of her car. Her long tan legs are in a gray pencil skirt that has me thinking about what it would feel like to have them wrapped around my head while I—

Her voice interrupts my thoughts.

“Earth to Jase.” She laughs, and the sound grips around my heart. “I lost you there for a minute.” She takes three more steps, and she’s standing in front of me. “Here’s your phone. You know, you might want to keep a better eye on this thing, player. Losing it will surely interfere with your hook-up game,” she teases.

“Samantha.” I shake my head. “How many times do I have to tell you, there is no hooking up. I’m waiting for you.”

“Yeah, yeah.” The smile on her face as she shakes her head in disbelief tells me she thinks I’m teasing.

“I can prove it.”

“Yeah? How?”

“Come inside.”

“Oh, no.” She chuckles. “I’m not falling for the ‘come inside so I can seduce you’ play. I thought you had more game than that, Andrews.”
They waited until after the holidays to go, not wanting to miss time here with the family. That means we’ve spent the last hour shooting the shit, instead of actually working. That’s the perks of owning the company. My brothers and I may have wasted this meeting to catch up, but that doesn’t mean we’re not dedicated to Riggins Enterprises. Our father built this company with our mom at his side. It’s our legacy and one we take seriously.

“Knock, knock.” Layla, who is our assistant, and my brother Owen’s fiancée and baby momma, enters the room. “Sorry these are late. The bakery had some transportation issues.”

I watch in fascination as my brother Owen jumps from his chair, the conversation he was having with our youngest brother, Marshall, long since forgotten now Layla is near. He takes the box from her, sets in on the end of the long conference table, and pulls her into his arms. One arm goes around her waist and the other rests on her belly, over their unborn son. Out of the five of us, Owen is the last one I would have guessed to be a father first. However, he met Layla and fell hard and fast.

He and my oldest brother, Royce, claim it’s the “magic.” That tells me they’ve spent too much time talking to our father. Stanley Riggins loves his wife, our mother, Lena, and swears it’s “magic” that got them together. I think the old man just likes to tell tall tales, and now that my two older brothers are tied down, they’re falling in line with his theories.

“Whatcha got there, Lay?” I ask my future sister-in-law.

“Oh, a new bakery just opened up down the block. You have to try these.” She steps away from my brother to open the box.

“Well, we’ve lost Grant,” Conrad, one of my younger brothers, comments.

He’s the fourth brother. Royce is the oldest, then there’s Owen and then me. I’m the middleman. Literally. The two youngest usually call me to pick them up when they’ve had too much to drink, and the two older brothers lean on me, more so than the younger two. I don’t mind it. I love my family, and being the middleman keeps me involved in all of their lives.

“Hush—” I point at Conrad “—and step away from the pastries.”

He throws his head back in laughter. “Lay, tell him to share,” he says as any little brother would. It doesn’t matter that we’re all grown men.

“Now, boys, there is plenty for everyone,” she assures us.

“But I get first pick, right?” I say, standing and walking to where she and Owen still stand at the end of the table. I bat my eyelashes, hoping to sway her to my way of thinking.

“They’re all the same.” She grins. “No way was I going to cause World War III over breakfast.”

“Good call, Layla,” Royce chimes in. “I’m going to take one to Sawyer,” he says, standing with stars in his eyes as he mentions his new wife.

“I stopped there first.” She smiles at him.

I place my hand over my chest. “Layla Riggins, you wound me.” Her cheeks pink at the use of our last name instead of hers. She might as well get used to it. Hell, I’m surprised Owen hasn’t raced her down the aisle yet. He’s head over heels in love with her.

“Love that.” I hear Owen whisper as I reach into the box and pull out a muffin. I bring it to my nose and pull in the scent. “Ah, banana nut, good choice.” I nod, peel back the wrapper, and take a huge bite.

“I wanted one of everything.” Layla laughs. “Pregnancy cravings, I guess. So, I told the woman behind the counter to surprise me, but that it all needed to be the same.”

“Damn, sis, these are good,” Marshall says, shoving the last half of his muffin in his mouth all at once, and fuck it, I do the same. We’re classy like that, us Riggins brothers.

“Where is this place? I’m going to have to stop in and see what else they have.”

“One block over.” She points behind her, which tells me that I need to make a left when I leave the building. I make a mental note.

That muffin was too good not to stop into the bakery and see what else they have to offer. I work out five days a week, usually before coming into the office. I have a gym at my house, but usually I meet my two younger brothers at the gym. It’s a good time razzing each other, and it’s always better to have someone to work out with. Especially when you need a spotter. Royce and Owen used to sporadically join us, but now they both have beautiful ladies warming their beds, their presence has been nonexistent. Not that I blame them. They both hit the “significant other” lottery.
Being a single mom is not how I envisioned life would turn out. But after my happily ever after ended way too soon, I’m doing my best and taking each day as it comes. Life is full of surprises, though, both good and bad... like Marshall Riggins coming to my rescue in the pharmacy line.
The gorgeous Riggins brother has a heart of gold and looks mighty fine as a knight in shining armor, but I don’t need a handout nor the distraction. Too bad my heart doesn’t get the memo.
Suddenly he’s everywhere I am. With his stubborn smile and dark blue eyes, he sees way more than I wish he would. He looks beyond the broken fragments of my being and still wants me. I can’t help but think maybe he’s my second chance at a happy ending.
Marshall
After watching my brothers find their magic and settling down, it’s time to admit I want what they have. It’s not just about the passion but the soul connection. The beautiful brunette fumbling through her purse in front of me in line doesn’t just catch my attention. She steals my heart.
Wren Wheeler is as stubborn as the day is long. The gorgeous single mom doesn’t want to accept my help... or my friendship. But her adorable baby girl doesn’t agree. In fact, she loves me. And the longer I spend with both of them, I know walking away isn’t an option.
She’s afraid of having her heart broken again, but I’m not going anywhere. I’ve slowly fallen for Wren. And beat by beat, I think she’s falling too.
I’ve been here at the office since early this morning. It’s usually my two oldest brothers, Royce or Owen, who arrive first, but now that they both have wives and babies at home, they don’t live to work like they used to.

Riggins Enterprises launched a new marketing campaign last month. It was my brainchild that I worked tirelessly on for months, and I’m happy to report that our reach is better than ever. Our accounts are growing in all regions, and it’s not just me boasting. The proof is in the numbers. Just ask my brother Owen. He’s the numbers guy, and he’s thrilled with the increase we’ve seen. Royce, my oldest brother, is the CEO, and he’s made sure to tell me several times in the last month what a marketing genius I am. Yes, I made him say it while I recorded it. I gotta take my praise where I can get it.

“You two are my favorites.” Layla’s voice carries down the hall. “Don’t tell Sawyer.”

“Don’t tell Sawyer what?” my sister-in-law Sawyer asks.

My sisters, well, my brothers’ wives, are here, and that’s the perfect excuse to take a break. Standing from my chair, I make my way to Layla’s desk at the reception area. “What’s that?” I immediately ask when I spot a container of something sitting on the corner of Layla’s desk.

“We were bored,” Aspen tells me. The shiny new engagement ring that my brother gave her last month sparkles as she moves her hand to point at the container.

“How bored are we talking?” I ask. “Bored, as in, let’s make some box brownies, or bored as in I whipped up a batch of homemade peanut butter bars. There’s a difference,” I tell them.

“Bored as in, we whipped up a batch of homemade magic bars,” my almost sister-in-law Aspen tells me with a grin.

“A bunch of hocus pocus,” I say, reaching for the container. Pulling off the lid, I’m assaulted with the smell of fresh baked goods, and this is my sister’s baking we’re talking about. You can’t have just one, so of course, I grab two.

“Careful, Marsh,” my middle brother Grant says as he approaches his wife, Aurora. “You might catch the magic bug,” he teases.

“I call bullshit. You just want the bars to yourself,” I say as I shove a bite of the magic bar into my mouth.

“My wife made the recipe,” he fires back. “I can have them anytime that I want them. Right, babe?”

“That’s right.” Aurora smiles at him.

“How are you two feeling?” Sawyer asks Aurora and Aspen.

If you’re confused, let me catch you up. My oldest brother, Royce, is married to Sawyer. She works here at Riggins, and they have a hella cute baby boy named Roan. He’s five months old, and I’m his favorite uncle. He can’t tell you that yet, but I’m confident that he will.

Next in line in the Riggins family tree is Owen. The second oldest and married to Layla, who also works here at Riggins. Layla and Sawyer work closely together to keep the five of us in line. They, too, have a hella cute little boy. His name is Carter. He’s a year-and-a-half old, and if I ask him who his favorite uncle is, he points to me. We’re going to pretend that he doesn’t do the same thing with my brothers. Let me have my moment.

Grant is my middle brother. He’s married to Aurora, who is Aspen’s sister. Aurora and Aspen own Warm Delights. However, it caught fire about five months ago, and they’re still dealing with insurance, waiting to rebuild. That’s okay because she’s expecting their first baby in a couple of months.

Conrad is the second to the youngest brother. He’s engaged to Aspen, Aurora’s sister, and they, too, are expecting a baby in a couple of months. She and her sister are due only a week apart. Neither planned it that way. It just sort of happened. By the end of the year, there are going to be two more baby boys joining the Riggins clan, and we’re all thrilled. Although, no one is more excited than my parents.

That leaves me—Marshall Riggins, the youngest of the Riggins brood and the last holdout. My dad and my brothers believe in what they call the magic of love. The five of them claim that when you find the one woman you’re supposed to spend the rest of your life with, it’s magical.

They claim that it changes you.

I’ve watched all four of my brothers fall in love. Each of them has found the woman they are meant to love forever, hence giving me four sisters, two nephews, and soon-to-be two more nephews. I don’t know if the “magic of love” is just something they all say to keep the rest of us from giving them shit about tying themselves to one woman for the rest of their lives, or if it’s real.
