Dance for a monster, live in a cage, be the perfect little puppet.

There is just one problem with that plan.

He has no idea who he is messing with.

But I can assure you, he’s about to find out.

1

“Come on, Ellie, you’re not pushing hard enough.”

With gritted teeth, I push up on my toes and spin, trying to do a ridiculous combination of ballet and jazz that my dance teacher is trying to throw into my performance. A performance that could change my life. It could get me into the school of my dreams where I could go on to make it big.

The problem is, he’s pushing me to dance in a way that doesn’t feel right to me.

Having studied many forms of dance, I have put my own twist on things, but that twist is never something he’s willing to allow me to use. He wants me to follow the rules, the structure, to deliver the performance most likely to get me in, but it shows nothing of who I am. Not a single ounce of my raging soul, the one that I keep hidden behind the pretty eyes and girlish smile.

I’m a dolly, and, believe me, those aren’t my words.

That’s what everyone calls me.

I’m petite, slender, and with my white blond hair and eyes that are such a light blue they almost look fake, I tend to look as though I belong on a shelf. I have the perfect frame for dance; I’m small and I’m light, I can twist and turn, throwing my body into positions a lot of other dancers can’t. I put on my first pair of ballet shoes when I was two, and I have never looked back.

My parents are rich, well known, and live an upper-class life. They were never going to let me be anything less than extraordinary. They pushed me, even when I didn’t want to be pushed. They drove me to rebel when I turned fourteen, and I very nearly gave it all up, but I pushed on, mostly because somewhere deep within me, dancing is part of who I am.

It's the disappointment I will bring if I don’t go to the elite school they want that will crush my spirit.

I know, somewhere within the depths of my soul, that if I wasn’t a dancer, they wouldn’t be proud of me at all.

I’m not like my brother, a natural born talent, a football superstar. He can do no wrong in their eyes.

He moved away years ago to college and all they do is tell me how incredible he is. I don’t really speak to him, because even he thinks he’s better than me.

Nobody in this family ever just lets me be me.

It’s exhausting.

“Ellie!”

Spinning toward my coach, Roger, I scowl as I lose my balance. Letting out a frustrated sigh, I flop down to the ground, my small legs stretching out in front of me, sweat trickling down my brow. Roger exhales, walking over and staring down at me with that fatherly concern in his eyes. He’s good to me, and if it wasn’t for him, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today, but he’s so old school, and I am having a hard time breaking him.

“Why can’t you just let me add some of my own things in, Rog?” I ask, tilting my head back to look up at him.

“Because those schools don’t like rebellion, Ellie, they like people who are willing to do exactly what they teach and do it well. You have that skill, you’re better than any other dancer I’ve ever taught, but you’re stubborn. You need to let go of your childish fantasies of getting on the stage and blowing everyone away with your unique moves. That isn’t how this works.”

Well, talk about a lecture.

“I don’t understand how adding passion and spirit into my routine is rebellion,” I mutter.

“It’s rebellion because it goes against everything they’ve ever learned. Dance is an art, it isn’t a joke.”
Dear Fury,
I get it, okay.
You didn’t sign up to become a fill-in father, uncle, biker dad, or whatever it is you want to call yourself.
But the hard truth is, you don’t have a choice.
I don’t want to have to be the one to point out that you can’t send your niece to school with no food.
Have you met kids?
They eat a lot.
I’m trying really hard not to get involved, trying not to let her sweet little voice sway me into calling you and telling you that I don’t like how you’re handling things.
But it’s really hard.
Because dammit, she’s a good kid and I can’t sit back and let you send her to school with no socks on for a single second longer.
Seriously. No socks?
And if you turn your back on me when I’m talking to you one more time…
Dammit.
I can’t get involved with people like you.
Not when I’m hiding my own demons.
God, if he found out that my eyes watch you leave my classroom every day and I wonder how it would feel to be beneath you…
No.
I can’t.
I won’t.
He’d kill me.
He would bury me six feet under, and I know it.
But you’re making it really hard for me when I’m constantly having to chase you.
So, if you could do me a solid, and just take good care of your niece, then I won’t have to talk to you again.
Please and thanks,
So, if you could do me a solid and just take good care of your niece, I won’t have to talk to you again.

Please and thanks,

Alexis Parker.

1

Leaning down so I’m eye level with the beautiful new child in my class, I notice that she’s shy and withdrawn. Her head slightly tipped forward and tilted to the side ensures that she won’t make eye contact with me unless forced to. I’m not going to force her to, no, because I understand children like her. She’s scared, nervous, and from what I was informed by the lady that brought her in, she’s come from a rough world.

I need to be gentle with her, show her that I’m a safe space.

“Hi, sweetheart,” I say, my voice soft and steady. “My name is Miss Parker, but you can call me Alex if you like.”

She doesn’t look up; her fingers remain firmly fixed in front of her, so tightly wound that her flesh is turning white. She’s terrified, and it breaks my heart to think about what it is she might have gone through to feel this way. No child should ever feel like they’re not safe, and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure she never feels that way in this classroom.

“It’s scary, isn’t it? Starting a new school. I had to come here just last year, and I had no friends, but the good news is, everyone here is super nice, and I just know that you’ll make so many friends.”

Her fingers loosen just a bit, but she doesn’t look up.

“I’m told your name is Hope. That is my favorite name. If I ever have a daughter, that’s just the name I’d pick.”

She glances up at me through those beautiful long lashes. She’s a stunning little girl, with soft blond hair and olive skin. Her eyes, as blue as the sky, are framed with thick lashes. Her dress, on the other hand, looks as though it needs a good wash, and I’m not going to pay attention to the lack of socks today. No, today is just about showing her that she is safe here.

“If you’d like,” I go on, “you can sit up the front, right beside me today. I know it’s scary being in a new place, but I promise you’re safe up there. Would you like that?”

A small nod.

A hell of a victory.

“That’s wonderful, come on. I’ll get you a seat and then we’ll get started.”

She follows me up to my desk at the front of the room, and I set her up with a small chair which she promptly sits down on. The class slowly fills, and I smile and welcome all of my students. Teaching first grade is my favorite part of the job. There is something about the kids, they’re just so innocent and sweet, their souls so pure. It makes me feel safe just being around them, and, in turn, they receive the same feeling.

“Good morning, class.” I smile, raising my hand so they know it’s time to sit down. They do so, without hesitation. “Today is a special day, because today we have a new student. I’m sure you all remember just how scary your first day of school was, so let’s make sure to be kind, compassionate, and caring toward her on her first day. Would you all like to welcome Hope?”

The class sings out a happy “Welcome Hope”, and out of the corner of my eye, I see the little girl lift her head and peer at them.

I’d say that’s a good start.
Dear Mex,

Firstly, what kind of name is that?
I bet your real name is something like Greg, or George, or Bob
I’d be ashamed, too.
Secondly, who the hell do you think you are?
You come in here all tough and rugged, acting like a hero, thinking you know what you’re doing.
You have no idea.
You don’t know a single thing about me.
Gosh, if you did, you would know you’re playing with fire.
You want what I have – don’t they all?
Here’s the thing, Mex, you’ll never get it.
You’ll never get a single thing out of me.
So, lock me up in your wilderness bunker, keep me cold and hungry.
My desperation will only strengthen my resolve.
I won’t break.
Keep me here until the flesh rots from my bones, but I promise you…
I. Won’t. Break.
You’re nothing on the horrors I’ve seen.
You’re handsome, though. At the very least, we could have some fun while you’ve got me chained up here, like a wild animal.
Anyway, I look forward to what you have planned.
Because I promise you, Mex, it’s nothing on what I’ve got up my sleeve.
Let’s go. Me verse you. We’ll see who comes out on top.

Sincerely yours,
Acacia.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

PROLOGUE

Dear Mex,

Acacia.

1

ACACIA – EARLIER

“Come now, Acacia. Enough with the dramatics.”

Moaning, I roll to my side, pain shooting through my shoulder as blood pools in my mouth because I bit my tongue so hard. I’m desperate to cry out, to unleash the agony in my soul, but the only sound that escapes my lips is that of a pitiful attempt at a wheezing breath. My mother’s voice echoes in and out of my consciousness, her voice harsh and lacking any sympathy.

“Get up. You’re making a scene.”

Her tone is steady, a whip slamming against my body with its cold deliverance. I try to do as she asks, rolling and pushing to my knees, but the pain is unbearable. Searing heat cripples me, and I fall flat on my face, screaming as the pressure causes a bolt of pain to travel through my body, nearly knocking me out cold.

“Get up.”

Reaching down, her cold fingers curl around my arm as she hauls me up to my feet. The man standing in front of me stares at me with cold intensity, unbothered by the fact that he just shot me to prove a point. The point being that my mother would willingly sacrifice anything to get what she wants – including her daughter. He didn’t believe her, of course, so he shot me.

She did nothing to stop it.

She would rather me dead than risk the empire she has built.

That’s how little I mean to her.

Gasping, my eyes jerk open, and it takes me a moment for my brain to recognize that I’m now awake and no longer drowning in a nightmare. Blinking, I reach up and rub at my eyes, trying to focus on my surroundings. My body aches, and there is a pain in my head that wasn’t there before. Wait ... what exactly was happening before? I shake my head, trying to figure out my last moves, but everything is empty. Gone. Like my recent memories have been wiped.

“You’re awake.”

The husky voice has me jerking upright. Head whipping to the side, I see a man leaning against a counter, arms crossed over his chest. His face seems familiar, yet no matter how hard I try, I can’t put my finger on it. He’s staring at me with an intensity that tells me hasn’t got me here because we spent a wild night together. No, he’s here for business, and, as my eyes scan over him, I realize I’m in a situation that I was not anticipating or expecting.

“Who the hell are you?” I growl, my body far too weak to match the strong voice I’m attempting to use.

The man pushes off the counter and stares down at me, his head tipping to the side. He’s gorgeous, and I hate to admit that because, clearly, he has bad intentions. If I were to meet this man at a club, I’d probably jump his bones. Come to think of it, I wonder if that’s how he got me here in the first place. It would be hard to say no to those silvery-gray eyes, the big, well-muscled, heavily inked body, and that thick, dark hair that’s falling over his forehead. He’s spectacular, and I’m in deep shit here.

“Don’t matter who I am. What matters is that you have somethin’ I want, and you ain’t leavin’ this room until I get it.”

I glance around the small space. It almost seems we’re in some kind of shipping container that has been converted into a tiny cabin. At a quick glance, I can see that it contains what seems to be a bathroom right at the end, a small seating area, a single bed, and a tiny kitchenette. It’s no bigger than a small caravan.
The next book in Bella Jewel's newest MC series is here! It does NOT contain a cliffhanger, so go on, read it right away!!!

Dear Chloe,
F**k you.
There’s no other way to put it.
You ruined my life.
You took everything from me.
You f**king broke my heart.
You don’t deserve this letter.
Hell, you don’t deserve the air I breathe.
That doesn’t matter now anyway because you’re gone.
You’re gone, but she’s here.
Did you do that on purpose?
Did you send her to that house, our house, to rub it in?
To remind me of the raw and fractured mess you left?
I bet you’re laughing. I know you are.
You wanted to take the knife and twist it one more time.
You wanted to make sure I forever remembered the gaping wound you left.
Well, as far as I’m concerned, you’re not only dead in the ground but you’re dead to me, too.
I’ll never breathe your name again.
I’ll never give you the satisfaction.
As for her…maybe I’ll make it my mission to ensure she suffers.
So you can look down from above, screaming for me to stop, but knowing there isn’t a single thing you can do to make me.
That’ll be my revenge.
I couldn’t do it to you, but can do it to her.
You’ll regret sending her to me.
Enjoy the show.
Colt.

Colt.

DEAR COLT,

I don’t know how to write this.

I don’t even know where to start.

If you’re reading this, then I’m no longer around.

I left it somewhere I knew she would find it for you one day, so finally you’d be able to have the answers that you’ve so desperately been seeking.

The answers I kept from you when I went away.

The answers that I know your soul needs.

I wish there was a better way, something that could explain this and make the bitter sorrow in your heart ease, but I know by now the hatred you have for me is strong.

I know because ... I loved you as much as you loved me. I do believe you loved me, Colt, even if you’re shaking your head right now. Even if your heart has a steel wall around it, that the very mention of my name causes it to shrink and tighten, until you’re gasping for air and clenching your fists in rage.

I know you.

That’s what made things so hard.

But the truth is I had no other choice. I had to leave.

I had to because the guilt was consuming me. It was eating me away little by little.

My secret took over my life.

But it wasn’t just my secret.

Somebody else knew what I did.

A stranger in the night, a faceless man who went on to make my life hell after what happened. I never told you about him, because if I had, you would have known the truth.

The truth that I’ve carried around for so many years.

The truth I’ve taken to my grave with me.

You need to find him. You need to end this.

When you read this diary, you’ll know the truth, and when you find out the truth, you’ll hate me forever.

I’m sorry.

He made sure I left and never returned.

In his sick, twisted games, he blackmailed me, he made my life hell, he tormented me until I could do nothing more than pack up and escape.

He was going to take everything from me, including you.

I couldn’t let that happen.

Sorry doesn’t begin to cover it, and so I won’t bother saying that simple word.

Instead, I will tell you that you were on my mind every single second of every single day until the last breath left my lungs.

I know reading this will be hard, and for that, I’m sorry.

Please forgive me.

Take care of my niece, you know she’s my world.

Help her fix our house.

Help it become a home again.

I love you.

Chloe xx

1

Blaring music has my fists clenching by my sides while I hold my breath, trying not to breathe in the mountains of dust that has settled on the floor over the years. At the very least, the furniture has been covered in old sheets, but that hasn’t stopped the rats from gnawing their way through until they’ve created giant holes, rendering it useless. I haven’t even begun to think about how I’m going to get this furniture out. That’s a problem for another day.

Right now, my only focus is on the fact that I can’t concentrate on a damned thing with the party happening next door. The music is making my house tremble, and the yahooing and shouting can be heard clear as day. This house is a whole lot closer to the biker club next door than it appears when you first drive in. Separated only by some bushland and a small fence, it’s way too close for my liking.

What my aunt was thinking when she decided this was the place she wanted to buy, I’m unsure. It probably had a lot to do with the fact that she was in love with the biker who was originally president of the club next door. Don’t even get me started on him. I don’t know what she sees in that man. He’s a pain in the ass, and ever since I showed my face here, he’s done nothing but make my life hell.
THE SECOND INSTALLMENT OF BELLA JEWEL'S NEWEST MC ROMANCE IS HERE!!!

Dear Nightmare,

I f*cked up.
It wasn’t meant to be this way. I wasn’t meant to hurt you.
I wanted the world to know the truth.
I wanted them to see who you really are.
I never thought it would end like this.
I wish you would hear me out.
I wish you would let me speak.
I’ve made a mistake. There is no coming back from that.
My life is in danger.
Your life is in danger.
The club is in danger.
I’ve done this to all of us, yet I can’t turn back the clock.
I can only fight to keep you safe.
Even if I must make a deal with the devil.
I’ll do it. For you, I’ll do anything.
I hope you can forgive me.
Because, Night, I’ve fallen in love with you.
You’ve captured my soul.
Then you ripped it out.
There is only one way back.
I must end this.
For both of us.

Love,
For both of us.

Love,

Bonnie x

1

Sitting on the side of the road, I watch brokenly as cars whiz by me, not one stopping for the pathetic girl with her knees to her chest, covered in dust with tears streaking down her face. They’re probably afraid to stop, afraid I might be having some sort of break and will put them in danger. They’re probably right. In this moment, as I sit numbly, I’m not entirely sure what it is I’m capable of. Crazy is an understatement for the way I’m feeling right now in this very moment.

I’ve screamed until my voice disappeared, dragged my nails through the dirt until they bled. I feel as though I’m losing it, like nobody will hear me out, like nobody cares. Mostly, hearing his brittle voice when he told me to leave broke something in me. He won’t hear my side of the story, he won’t even look at me. He’s filled with the kind of hatred that is irreversible, and I don’t know how to fix it. I don’t even know if I can fix it, and that thought hurts the most.

“You can’t sit here all day.”

Fury’s gruff voice comes from behind me, but I don’t turn. My eyes stay trained on the road, on the browning trees that need a good rain, on the red car that has gone past twice now.

“Bonnie.”

“I didn’t release that story,” I croak. “He won’t listen. He won’t hear me. I didn’t do it.”

“Did you write it?”

I close my eyes, a lone tear running down my cheek. “Yes,” I whisper.

“Then it don’t matter if you released it or not. You lied to him. You let yourself into his life and, I’ll tell you, you’re the first person he let in in return. All along, you were doin’ it for a story.”

I turn, staring up at him.

He’s sheltering the blistering sun with his big body, and as his eyes rake over me, they’re devoid of emotion. He’s closing off, too. Of course he is, Western is his family and me? I’m nothing.

“It wasn’t just for the story...”

“So you would have approached him and pushed your way into his life if you weren’t writin’ that story?”

I look away, shame rising in my chest.

I know how it looks, I do.

I can’t even deny it, really.

There is nothing I can do but accept that I fucked up.

“I never meant to hurt him, regardless of what you think. He matters to me, Fury. He ... I ...”

“If he mattered, Bonnie, you would have told him the truth.”

“I was trying to help him,” I say, staring down at my bloody fingers. “I wanted the world to know that he isn’t a monster.”

“He didn’t ask you to fix his world, but he did trust you to become part of it, and you fucked it up. There is no comin’ back from that. You need to get up now and leave. Pains me to say this to you, but this club means more to me than how I feel about you bein’ here. Go home, Bonnie, and accept that whatever you think you had here is no longer.”

His words hurt. God, they send a searing pain shooting straight through my chest. It’s as if a hot knife has been plunged inside me and someone is twisting the handle. Nothing could have prepared me for just how much Western and his club would come to mean to me, and now not only is he cutting me off, but they are too. I have no one outside of Leo. I’m unprotected and unsafe.

It's all my doing, too.

“Bill is going to come after me,” I whisper. “So are the crooked cops. I’m not safe, Fury.”

“You should have thought about that before you dug into a fuckin’ story that wasn’t yours to tell.”

I glance at him again, another tear escaping. “So you think he should spend the rest of his life just living behind a lie? Letting the world think he’s a monster?”

“That was his call, not yours.”
Dear Nightmare,

I wish I could introduce myself, and tell you who I really am, but that simply can’t be.
You know why, of course.
We all know why.
We’ve all heard the story; we grew up hearing the story.
The one about you…and him.
Your life was taken from you, and for so many years, you lived as your name describes – a nightmare.
But, that’s not really your name, is it?
That’s how your club sees you. How the world sees you.
I know who you are.
You say you didn’t do it, but you won’t talk to anyone.
You won’t tell your truth.
Instead, you drown in darkness, letting the world pass you by.
I can’t help but wonder why?
I’m nobody, in the big scheme of things, but I do have a purpose.
I want to know the truth.
I want the world to know the truth.
What happened that fateful day cannot be held prisoner a second longer.
I can’t tell you that, though, because you’ll never talk to me.
You’ll never let me in.
You’ll push me away like you do everyone else.
You’ll sit at that bar, your brown eyes lost and empty, until the last breath leaves your body.
I can’t let that happen, you see?
So, I’m going to take a risk. Do something crazy.
I hope you’ll forgive me for it, in the end.
Maybe you won’t, but I’m going to do it anyway.
I guess I’ll talk to you soon.
Love,
Bonnie.
Love,

Bonnie.

1

TWENTY YEARS EARLIER – NIGHTMARE

Trudging through the mud, my boots tighten around my feet as moisture creeps in, the distinct smell of mud and water invading my nostrils as I put one foot in front of the other, cursing with every step. I use a long stick to push trees out of the way. Fucking club. The things my father is making me do to prove myself are beyond a joke. If it wasn’t the only family I had, I wouldn’t be doing this shit, that much is certain, but, one day, that club will be mine, and when it is, things will change. I will change it. Make it something. Make it into the kind of club nobody messes with.

My father is a great President, but I will be fucking incredible.

Shoving an overhanging branch out of the way, I let my eyes scan the swamp land. It’s nearly dark out, and here I am doing the dirty business because someone fucked up. There is always an error, and I’m always the one fixing it. You got to be the one to fix shit, Western, it’s the only way I’ll ever trust you with my club. Everything is your mess, you have to remember that. Yeah, thanks, old man. I love nothing more than fixing other peoples’ fuck ups.

Wiping my wet, muddy hair from my face, I let my eyes scan over the large mass of mud and trees. There is a body in here, at least, that’s what my father told me. He said one of the members dumped it, but this area is frequently searched, and, therefore, it cannot be left here. It’s up to me, of course, to get the fucking thing out and relocate it. Problem is, there has been a whole lot of rain since it was dumped, which means it could be anywhere.

Like looking for a needle in a fucking haystack.

Voices have me whipping my head to the left. Echoing through the trees, I can hear two men arguing. Nobody is supposed to be out here, my father assured me it was safe. He promised that I would be in and out with no problems. Gritting my teeth, I move closer to the sound, trying not to bring any attention to myself as I carefully wade through the filth surrounding me. I reach the bank and shove my body up and out, crinkling my nose at the foul smell. It’s fucking disgusting in here. I don’t even want to know what is mixed in this mud.

The first thing I’m going to do when I get home is shower.

“Please, just give me my son. I’m begging you.”

The voice comes from a man, and he’s frantic.

“I warned you what would happen if you tried to fuck with me. I don’t take kindly to people who are trying to take me down behind my back.”

“I didn’t, I swear it. You heard wrong. You can hurt me, just don’t hurt my boy.”

Sneaking up, I peer through some thick trees to see two men and a boy, who is maybe fifteen or sixteen, standing in a clearing. I recognize one of the men right away, hell, it’s only the fucking mayor of the city, the one and only filthy scumbag, Bill Whart. The other man, the one with the boy, I haven’t seen before. What is the mayor doing out here, threatening some man and his family?

I shouldn’t be surprised, actually, he’s known to be in some shady business that goes far higher than his role in this city.
