She was my wounded angel.
My obsession.
Now, she is the reason my heart beats.

I took one look at the golden-haired goddess with pain in her eyes and knew I had to have her.
I let myself become the man she needed.
I know she thinks I'm harmless—a friend offering to help a damsel in distress.
She has no idea how wrong she is.

I may look like safety to her, but it’s all a lie.
On the inside, I’m the man who will tear men apart piece by piece to keep them away from her.
I’m the man who will avenge every wrong she has ever endured.
Because she belongs to me.

If she knew the man I truly was, my sweet, innocent Angel would be terrified.
There’s so much blood on my hands that they will never be clean.
So, I do what I must to hide who I am.
I’ll do whatever it takes to protect her.
I will even teach her to stand proudly by my side and demand her own revenge.
The one thing I can’t do?
Is let her go.

Deadly Protector is book 4 of the Kingdom of Sin Series. It is a mafia romance that contains dark undertones and triggers. It can be read as a standalone.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

prologue

. . .

Angelia

Six Years Earlier

I can hear him breathing. I’m face down on my living room floor. My wrists are raw from pulling on the zip ties the man secured them with. My shoulders and forearms are filled with pain because they are twisted unnaturally. My legs are starting to go numb. I’m so dizzy. At first, I can’t figure out why, then I realize he must have kept beating me even after the attack. My face is swollen, and I can’t focus, my vision is very blurry and dimmed—almost like a gray haze.

Pain is shooting through me. Each of my hands are somehow tied to one of my ankles which has forced my legs to bend at the knee, making my thighs cramp. My lower extremities are securely tied, too. I’m not sure what with. The texture feels like a rough rope, but I can’t be sure. I just know that I can’t move. It’s impossible.

I’ve been in this position for hours. It feels like years, but I know it’s not. Still, after the man beat me and I blacked out, time stopped having meaning. I came home from the gym, only to have someone hit me from behind at the base of my skull. I don’t know what with, but I do know it was something extremely heavy. Whoever did it had been waiting for me just inside my front door. I tried to turn and see who hit me, but I went down almost immediately, losing consciousness. I did see a figure standing over me. He said something, but I couldn’t make it out. As the darkness closed in, I couldn’t find the strength to raise my head. All I could see were his shoes, black shiny, dress shoes. I succumbed to the pain and let the darkness claim me.

When I woke up, I was in this position. I began screaming only to have the man grip my hair, forcing my head back. I couldn’t see his face, just a distorted mishmash of images as his hot, putrid breath fanned against my face. My ears were ringing so loudly that I couldn’t hear his words. Then, all at once it broke through and I was terrified. His rough, hoarse voice purred. “If you want to scream, I’ll give you something to scream about.” With that, the blade of his knife roughly cut through my cheek in a sawing action. The weapon was so dull that it made each cut even more painful.

Blood oozes from my face and the pain is debilitatingly intense. I wonder for a second if I might black out again and I kind wanted to. I’m afraid of what might come next. Until this moment, I was sure my mother was the queen of evil. I clearly had no idea just how dark this world truly was.

The man hasn’t raped me, but he did touch me in ways that makes fear constantly course through my body. He shoves a gag into my mouth and I’m pretty sure it’s a pair of my underwear—which means the man has been going through my stuff. That would normally terrify me, but I’m more worried about what he’s going to do to me.

I’ve gone from praying for someone to rescue me, to praying for death. I’m helpless. I can’t scream for help. I can’t even see who is doing this to me. I can’t do anything but wait for everything to end. Wait for my end.

He had left me completely alone for at least a couple of hours. I don’t have a clock in front of me, but I’ve been counting in my mind and the numbers add up to around two or two and a half hours. I’ve discovered that counting somehow puts my brain on autopilot, making me numb to what is around me. It doesn’t completely save me, but it has kept me from getting completely lost in my terror.

I think I’m just waiting for him to kill me. He’s standing over me, doing nothing, but the sound of his breathing is really beginning to get to me. I’ve tried not to show him that I can hear him. I don’t want to give him the satisfaction of seeing all of the effects of the horror he’s inflicting on me.

“When are we killing her?” I hear another male voice question.

I can’t breathe. It hits me all at once. I’m going to die. My surprise makes me mad. I’m being weak. I was just praying for death. Why do I give my captor—or captors—the satisfaction of seeing how it affects me now? No matter how much I try to rein myself in, I can’t. The devastation I feel is too indescribable. My eyes sting with the force of my tears. It’s painful because my eyes are so swollen. There’s also pain as they run down my face and into the jagged knife cuts. The salty evidence of my pain burns, amplifying the pain I’m already feeling.
He rescued me when I had nowhere else to turn.
Now, this filthy talking man is demanding payment, but he doesn’t want money.
He wants me in his bed, obeying his every command.

All my life, I wanted to be loved. Instead, I was ignored.
My father gave me what I wanted so he could go back to ignoring me.
Once I understood that, life became easier.
When he arranged to marry me off to the son of his biggest ally, I didn’t mind.
Marco was the older brother of my best friend and honestly, he made me burn.
I wanted to belong to him.
I wanted in his life, his bed and definitely in his heart.
It didn’t quite work out that way.

Marco treated me just like my father did—maybe worse.
Being tolerated by the man you love is a level of pain that I couldn’t endure.
So, I left.
The fact Marco didn’t fight to keep me was horrifically painful.

When one really bad decision lands me in hot water.
I reach out to the only person who has ever cared about me, my best friend Lina.
Too bad, she’s also Marco’s little sister. Marco rescues me, but he’s no white knight.
He’s a monster.

Complete Standalone Book

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Marco

What Feels Like A Lifetime Ago

“So, it’s official?”

Those are the first words I hear as I reach the courtyard and approach the flower garden. I’m struggling with everything that just happened. I want a normal life. Shit, I’ve been in hell so long that normal looks damn tempting. Yet, the deal today will cement the fact I’ll always have a place in the world that my father has made me hate with everything in me. I agreed, because once I have my own position of power and my own money—I will systematically do everything in my power to destroy my father. I will end him—both in business and in life. Then, when I’m done, I will dance naked over his ashes and piss on the bastard.

Still, to even get a chance of doing this, I had to agree to marry a child. With a heavy sigh I look at Helena—the girl that I’ve just become engaged to. I’m way too old for her and this is only the second time I’ve met her. It seems unreal, but in my world, this is the way things are done.

Today is her birthday. Sixteen.

She’s the best friend to my sister, Melina, and has been around the family on several occasions. Not as often as Melina wants and that’s mostly because my father doesn’t like people in his home. I’ve not been around when she’s been in my home either. Truthfully, I don’t spend a lot of time with my sister. If my father knew that she was my weakness, her life and mine would be an even bigger hell than it already is. He’d use Melina against me—more than he already does—just to make me fall in line.

If it wasn’t for Melina, I wouldn’t be here now. I’d have left my father’s reach and forged my own path years ago. My brothers can fend for themselves now. Sebastian and Gio are old enough to take my place and look out for the others. Melina, though, she reminds me of our mother. She’s gentle. The bastard broke my mother’s spirit. I can’t allow him to do the same to my sister.

So, I live a life trapped.

“Marco?” Helena prompts and I turn my attention back to her.

Helena is way too young, but she is beautiful. I like women. I enjoy them, but I never let them close. If I did that, they would become just another weapon my father can use against me. If he thought she could one day mean anything to me, he would go after her. I don’t even have to question it. After all, the bastard taught me that lesson when I was sixteen and believed I was in love with the stable groomer’s daughter, Paulina. She was a year older than me and my first taste of a woman. I thought I was on top of the world. Until, one day, I came home and went to meet her in the pool house—which had become our normal meeting spot. I opened the door to find Paulina on her knees servicing my father, his spunk being shot all over her face.

My father laughed, looking right at me. I can still hear his words. “Don’t leave son. You can have her now that I’m finished. Hell, I’ll pay her extra and she’ll take us both on at once.”

The memory sours inside of me and I push it away, concentrating on the here and now. I need to reassure Helena, but at the same time, I must keep her distant. That’s best for her and me.

“It’s done. We will have a good marriage, Helena,” I vow. I’m going to keep that promise, too. I am not my father. I will respect her.

“We will? I’m afraid I’ll screw it up. I think it’s only fair to warn you, Marco, my father says I’m pretty much a failure at doing what is expected of me.”

I try to hide my smile. Helena is so earnest, the last thing I want to do is to make her think that I don’t take her serious. “I’m kind of new to the husband thing. I think mainly we need two rules between us.”

“Rules?” she asks.

“Yeah. I think, we need to understand that no matter what you and I will always be honest with one another.”

“I can do that.”

“Let’s try that out now. Do you think I’m too old for you, Helena?”

“I’m not sure. Mostly, I like that you’re older,” she whispers softly, her eyes sparkling, cheeks heating with embarrassment. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much innocence before—not even in my sister.

“What makes you unsure about me then?” I ask, unable to stop myself.

“Do you think I’m too young for you?”

I take a deep breath. Damn if that’s not a loaded question. “You are right now,” I respond, trying to be gentle.
Melina gave me her body and ran away.
She can run, but she can’t hide.

I needed to lose myself in a woman.
It was just supposed to be one night.
She gave more than either of us bargained for.

I claimed her innocence and she disappeared.

She has no idea the lengths I will go to find her.
I won’t allow her to get away again.

I’ll track her down. Nothing will keep me from her.
I don’t care what I must do.
Even if I have to declare war to keep her,
Melina will be mine.

Standalone Romance
Characters were introduced in Book 1 Carnal Vows
(Please note price will increase after release)

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Niko and Emilia

melina

“I won’t do it!” I snap.

Panic makes my words shriller than they should be. You would think if I had learned anything in life, it would be to use caution around my father and brothers. Right now, however, I’m not thinking straight. I’m just in utter panic. I stare at all of them and wish for the millionth time I was an orphan.

“Melina, you will do as I order. You are part of this family, even if, as a girl, you don’t hold much value,” he returns.

His words shouldn’t hurt me after all this time. I’m twenty years old. I’ve been alone with my father and six brothers for most of my life. There’s no softness to be found in any of them. The only hugs I get are ones given for show at dinners. If I fail to smile or entertain, I pay for it later in private. I don’t know why I think any of them would listen to me now. Logically, it’s apparent they won’t. I’m not in the mood to be logical. I’m in a full-blown, adrenaline-fueled panic.

“Father, please listen—”

His fist slaps down on his solid mahogany desk so hard that I jump back in my seat. All too late, common sense begins to infiltrate my brain. I moisten my lips as the man who stares back at me reveals the monster that I know he is.

“You listen to me. You have no useful skills. You’re nothing but a liability that spends her time with zero responsibilities. It’s time you step up and do what you need to do for this family.”

“You want me to marry a man who is older than you!”

“He’ll provide well for you, and it will further our reach. With this marriage, we will all but have a lock in America when it comes to shipping. That means, you will marry Doyle Kelly and that’s the end of this discussion.”

He gets up, striding around his desk. I know he’s leaving. I’m also more than aware of the fact that I’m walking on thin ice that is about to break through into a raging river. I need to recede into the shadows—that’s the safest place to be when it comes to my father—but the sad fact is, I’ve never been particularly intelligent when it comes to dealing with him. Hell, the best thing I could probably do is to keep my mouth shut and marry Doyle Kelly. He can’t possibly be worse than the monster who has raised me.

Afterall, surprisingly, the thought of marrying a stranger isn’t what bothers me. It’s just the fact that for once in my life, I want to experience real love. I want a man to look at me and see a woman they don’t want to live without. I don’t want to be someone they use as a bargaining chip—a pawn to be played in a bigger game.

I’m not stupid. I know there are no fairytales in this world. Still, it’d be nice to have a man who will cherish me because he cares about me. I’m certain I have the ability inside of me to care deeply for a man. I want to love someone—that’s all I’ve ever wanted. If I marry this guy, I’ll never have that.

I think I’ll shrivel up and die.

“Father, please,” I plead, standing up to scurry in front of him. “Don’t ask this of me. I’d do anything to make you happy, but don’t sell me to a man who is more than triple my age. I beg you, please don’t do this. You’re the most powerful man around. You can make anyone bow to your will. Can’t there be some other way?”

I count it as a win that I don’t choke on my words. It’s enough that they burn as I say them. I hate begging, but I know appealing to my father’s enormous ego is my only hope to get a reprieve from this horrible situation.

I wait for his answer. The only warning I receive is when those blue eyes of his—so pale they freeze you clear to your soul—seem to grow impossibly colder. His lips thin out and before I can gather my wits enough to step back, his hand comes out to smack flat across the side of my face. My head whips sideways from the force of it. Tears immediately spring up and sting my eyes with the need to release. My skin burns, instantly throbbing as I bring my hand up to hold my cheek. I do my best to contain my tears.

Crying isn’t allowed. It never has been—not even when I was a small child.

I rub my jawline and notice the tips of my fingers are wet. I look down at my hand seeing the bright red color, realizing he split the corner of my mouth open.

*Please note this book is available at a special preorder price. The price will increase upon release.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

Niko

Five Years Ago

“You’ve impressed me, Niko.”

I look up at the man who has become like a father to me. Maxwell Korslova. For ten years, he has taken me under his wing, molded me, and helped me rise within the DeLuca family. Korslova is the Consigliere to Antonio DeLuca. DeLuca is the head of the family and one of the most powerful men in the Italian American mafia at the moment.

Which means this meeting is one of the most important I’ve ever had.

“I appreciate that, Mr. Korslova.”

“Come now, Niko. I’ve told you when we are alone you call me Maxwell.”

“I’ll remember,” I respond. The man probably has no idea how much he means to me. I never had a father, everything I have I’ve fought tooth and nail for. Yet, the opportunities I’ve had are all because of the man sitting across from me.

“I’ve arranged a meeting for you, Niko. Tomorrow you and I will be having dinner with DeLuca to discuss your future in the family.”

I frown. I don’t think Maxwell would have me removed. Still, his loyalty is owed to DeLuca and probably to his nephew… Dante Russo. Dante is a soldier in the family, just like I am. He’s pissed because I keep getting more responsibility placed on my shoulders. He feels that as Maxwell’s family he should be the most favored. Dante has shit for brains. I wouldn’t put him in charge of waxing my car. He has no work ethic and wants everything handed to him on a silver platter. He's an entitled little boy who likes to pretend he’s a man. I wouldn’t put anything past him. He’s a snake in the grass, ready to strike, and bite you in the ass. He’s not brave enough to face you. I never let myself forget that when I’m dealing with him.

“Mr. Kor—” I stop when he shakes his head no at me. I clear my throat. “Maxwell, I appreciate everything you’ve done for me. I’ve tried to show that through the work I do with the family. No matter what task I’m given I always try to provide results above what is expected.”

“You don’t think I know that?” he responds, and damn if he doesn’t sound upset that I would doubt him.

“I—”

“The fact that you were able to get the union president on board with this latest deal impressed DeLuca so much that he’s considering offering you the position that was left vacant when Gio died.”

I frown thinking back to the man who I reported to for the last ten years. Giovanni Russo was what we refer to as a Capo or Caporegime. He was a good man. His death rocked us all. Hell, being part of the family is dangerous. We all know the risk. It’s not so much Gio’s death, but the way he died—someone tied weights around him and shoved his body into a sewage reservoir. He drowned in fifteen feet of raw sewage. He was our Don’s brother-in-law and respected by all the family. The only bad thing anyone ever had to say about Gio was the fact that Dante was his son. I doubt DeLuca would have let Dante have a position if it wasn’t out of respect for Gio. There are rumblings that Dante is making it known he wants his father’s position and is going to make it his mission to find out who killed his father.

I’m not fucking reporting to Dante. There’s no way in hell. DeLuca can either move me somewhere else, or I’ll do like Maxwell Korslova and cross a line. He left behind the Russians and proved his loyalty to DeLuca. Like Maxwell, my loyalty is not for sale. Yet, if none is shown to me, I will cut ties without a thought.

“I thought that position would go to his nephew,” I respond, pulling my thoughts back to the here and now.

“DeLuca barely tolerates Dante. I don’t think that will be an issue.” I refuse to acknowledge the relief his words bring me, but it’s there just the same. “This could be your chance, but if you do move forward...”

“I know the saying,” I confide. “For every step you make forward, you must watch your back twice as much.”

“It’s the damn truth,” Maxwell laughs. “So, tomorrow night, dinner at my home. I don’t think I need to tell you to be punctual, son.”

“No, sir, you do not.”

“You’re never going to call me Maxwell, are you?” he chastises.

“Not easily. I owe you too much,” I answer with honesty that only he deserves.

“My Isabelle was only able to give me Emilia before her death. My daughter is perfection and the spitting image of her mother.”

“I’m sure she’s very beautiful,” I murmur, mostly because it sounds like what I should say. For me, women tend to have only one use, but I doubt Maxwell would appreciate me saying that when it comes to his daughter.
