Born into a life of conflict, Slayer emerges as a formidable warrior destined for leadership within Clan Ravinsher. Leading the Gallowglass, an elite group of mercenaries, he is a born protector, sworn to safeguard his older brother, the rightful heir to the clan. However, fate alters his course when his father and brother are murdered. The responsibility of leading the clan and seeking vengeance now rests squarely on Slayer's shoulders.

Amid this turmoil, Slayer discovers that his brother's widow, Sky, an innocent soul unaware that her father arranged a marriage for her, is in grave danger. Duty bound to ensure her safety, Slayer rescues her from what was intended to be a sanctuary at Dundren Abbey.

Sky’s two sisters shielded her from a world that misunderstood her due to an affliction she had since birth. With her sisters no longer there to shield her, she seeks companionship from the animals who are drawn to her innate kindness, as she begins to discover the impending dangers that await her.

As Slayer strives to protect Sky from unseen threats, he guards a secret that could alter the course of their intertwined destinies. The journey to avenge his family's murders becomes a treacherous path, filled with twists and turns. Sky, thrust into a marriage she never knew existed and now under the watchful eye of a mighty Gallowglass warrior, grapples with her own uncertainties. The realization that someone seeks her demise forces her to remain under Slayer's protection, even as she yearns to return to the familiarity of her home.

Yet, beneath the surface of their intertwined fates, lies a revelation that could shatter their worlds. Slayer's unspoken truth holds the key to understanding their connection, and as the plot thickens, so does the bond between them. When Sky is unexpectedly abducted, Slayer embarks on a relentless pursuit to retrieve her, confronting adversaries and challenges that push his warrior skills to the limit.

Sky, oblivious to her own hidden truths, finds herself at a crossroads when long-buried secrets surface. The choices she makes will shape her destiny, and as the threads of fate weave their intricate pattern, both Slayer and Sky must confront serious decisions. In a world where loyalties are tested, alliances are forged, and the truth has the power to transform lives, Slayer and Sky must face challenges that will ultimately define who they are and what they are willing to sacrifice for love and honor.

Author

There is a story arc that runs through the three books and though each individual love story finishes in each book, the trilogy is best read in order.

The Scarred Highlander, The Fierce Highlander & Highlander the Conqueror.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

A familiar noise roused Sky from her light slumber. As she slowly emerged from a fitful sleep, a sense of puzzlement enveloped her. Had she truly heard something, or had she imagined it? Or had it been nothing more than a remnant of a dream she failed to recall? The cloth hood secured over her head, so it could not be removed, coupled with the oppressive darkness of the cell, prevented her from discerning whether it was day or night. She had lost all grasp of time, uncertain of how many days had elapsed since her arrival or the duration since her sisters, Leora and Elsie, had managed to escape.

Struggling against the heaviness of her limbs, Sky attempted to stand. The shackles on her wrists and the chains connecting them to a cold, unyielding metal ring embedded in the stone wall seemed to gain weight with each passing day. The memories of her sister Leora’s warning echoed in her mind. Pace often so that your legs are fit enough to run out of here when either I or Elsie return to rescue you.

She had lost hope without her sisters there to encourage her and had not continued to do as Leora advised so she could keep her legs strong. She attempted to stand but her feet protested, tingling from numbness. She had sat too long. She moved her feet back and forth to force feeling back into them. Then she braced her hand against the stone wall and struggled to get to her feet, but her legs would have none of it. She collapsed back on the floor with each try. How long had it been since she had initiated a deliberate pace within the cramped confines of her cell? Each intentional step she had taken had become a small act of rebellion, a defiance against the physical and mental constraints imposed upon her. The cell’s size had been a mystery, revealed to her only by the exploratory reach of her hands, as the hood had been thrust over her head upon her arrival at Dundren Abbey. She discovered that, even in her shackled state, a stretch of her hand could graze the four enclosing walls.
Noble is a fierce Gallowglass warrior, his reputation unwavering, his demands for respect and obedience from his warriors unyielding and he expects the same from the woman he weds. He accepts a marriage arrangement to a woman who needs protection in exchange for something he thought was merely a dream. But his dream is about to turn into a nightmare when he meets his wife.Leora’s life was shaped by the promise her father made, the promise that she would have the freedom to choose her own husband. However, unforeseen circumstances force her father to make the decision for her. Her life is in danger and her father chooses someone who can protect her and keep her safe… a Gallowglass warrior, an elite mercenary, a man who can shield her from harm. When Noble arrives to claim his bride, he is met with Leora's unwavering refusal to accompany him willingly. He shocks her when he threatens to physically remove her if she does not comply. It is her sister Elsie who provides her with a compelling reason to leave with her new husband. Hidden within this journey is a chance to determine the fate of their beloved sister Sky, who has taken refuge with Lord Slayer, the formidable leader of the Gallowglass. Leora is torn between concerns for Sky's safety and her own independence, as her destination lies not far from Lord Slayer’s clan. The fierce warrior and the unyielding woman collide head-on from their very first encounter, sparks of discord flying between them. However, amidst their clashes, they begin to discover an unexpected truth… they share more in common than they could have ever imagined. Their similarities, concealed beneath layers of pride and stubbornness, gradually surface as they navigate the perilous terrain of their pre-arranged union. As attempts on Leora’s life intensify and the mystery surrounding her true identity deepens, their bond strengthens. With each challenge they face together, they find themselves inching closer to something neither of them anticipated… falling love, a force as formidable as any opponent they've encountered. In the heart of their tumultuous journey, amidst danger and deception, and the possibility of losing each other, it is their love, that in the end, saves them both.Author There is a story arc that runs through the three books and though each individual love story finishes in each book, the trilogy is best read in order. The Scarred Highlander, The Fierce Highlander, Highlander the Conqueror.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

“Do not waste your breath, Elsie,” Leora warned before her sister could say a word. “He is no husband of mine. Not now. Not ever. I will not have a husband chosen for me. I choose who I will wed.”

“Perhaps that was possible at one time, but no longer,” Elsie said, joining her sister to sit on the end of her bed. “I wish it could be that way for you, truly I do, Leora, but Da wed you and me to Gallowglass warriors to keep us safe and our sister Sky to the brother of a Gallowglass warrior, and it is a good thing he did. That warrior now protects Sky, his brother’s widow.

“I would never choose a husband from a fierce group of aristocratic mercenaries,” Leora argued and raised her hand to still her sister so she could finish what she had to say. “I do understand Da’s reasoning for doing what he did. He and Mum inadvertently caused this situation out of nothing more than kindness and love by accepting three newly born bairns, in danger, as their daughters and never telling anyone about it. I love them even more for saving us from dire circumstances, but I do not want to be forced into a marriage with a man I have never met, let alone a fierce Gallowglass warrior.” She silenced her sister again with another abrupt raise of her hand when she went to speak. “I know what you will say. Your marriage turned out wonderful. You love your husband and Cavell loves you, and I am happy for you, believe me, I am truly happy for you both. But Da spoke with you about the arranged marriage and you agreed to it. I was not given such an opportunity.”

Elsie hurried to speak before her sister could stop her again. “And why do you think Da did that?”

Leora threw her hands up in the air as she hurried off the bed. “It is obvious. He knew I would reject such an outrageous and ridiculous proposal.”

“So, Da did what any good father would do. He took it upon himself to save you whether you liked it or not,” Elsie said and remained where she was and watched her sister’s lovely face scrunch with annoyance.

“It is easy for you to say when things turned out so well for you. What if my husband, Noble, turns out to be nothing like his name. What if he is cruel to me and beats me?”

Elsie rushed off the bed to her sister’s side, gripping her arm. “You will tell me right off and I will help you poison him so you will be rid of him.”

Shock held Leora’s tongue captive but only for a short time. “You would do that?”

“Without hesitation,” Elsie confessed. “I would not see you suffer such a horrible fate.”

Leora smiled softly. “You finally found your courage, Elsie, and I am so pleased you have. But I would never risk having you do such a dangerous thing for me.” She grinned. “I would kill him myself.”

Elsie smiled at her sister’s bravado. “You always could look after yourself, far better than Sky or I could.”

“Determined,” Leora said. “I have a determined nature.”

Elsie laughed. “Stubborn. Da would call it stubborn.”

Leora laughed as well, though it faded. “Presently, I am more perplexed than stubborn. I am aware of the wisdom of Da’s decision, yet that wisdom has determined my fate and I find that difficult to accept.”

“I understand perfectly, Leora, and perhaps it would help for you to know what Cavell told me about Noble.”

“Aye, do tell me,” Leora said anxiously and tugged her sister to the bed for them to once again sit.

“My husband said that he is the fiercest of all of Slayer’s warriors and tracks better than Slayer’s hounds. He follows Slayer’s command without question and expects obedience from the warriors he commands.” Elsie hesitated to continue.

“Tell me everything, Elsie,” Leora urged.

“Cavell told me that Noble will take this marriage seriously and commit to it.”

“Leaving me forever trapped with a husband who expects obedience at every turn,” Leora said and shuddered. “Not a future I favor, and what if I cannot abide his features? What if he is sloven and has a God-awful odor about him?” She scrunched her nose as if she could smell it.

“Why don’t you seek the solitude of your room for the remainder of the day and give the situation thought,” Elsie suggested, hoping Noble would be to her sister’s liking and that time alone would help her come to terms with the situation. She was surprised when her sister’s face brightened.

“That is a good idea, Elsie. That will give you time to meet my husband, since he has arrived here without prior notice, and return to my room and tell me what you think of him.”
Cavell was first introduced in Highland Hearts A Cree & Dawn Novella. He popped in unexpectedly and I knew I had to give him his own book which developed into the Blood & Honor Highland Trilogy. There is a story arc that begins in this book and carries through to the third book but each individual love story finishes in each book.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

Perched on his horse, Cavell stared at Dundren Abbey that emerged after he crested the rise. Without the favorable vantage point, he would have missed the sight of the abbey altogether, hidden amidst the ethereal mist and shielded by the imposing barrier of solid stone. His eyes remained locked on the structure, wondering what his wife was doing there.

A wife he never met and one he did not want.

“The marriage is beneficial to the clan, and it is past time you had a wife.”

So his father, Lord Philip, and his older and only brother Harcus had claimed, but Cavell knew both men well. The decision had nothing to do with it being past time for him to wed and everything to do with what benefitted Clan McCabe.

He made his descent down the rise toward the abbey. His father had made it clear what he expected of the marriage. His wife Elsie was the only daughter of Chieftain Norris of Clan Murdock, who was ill and not expected to live long. Cavell would become chieftain upon the old man’s death, securing more land for Clan McCabe. He was to collect his wife and settle in his new home with her, claiming the chieftain title upon the old man’s passing.

Cavell had his own plans, and they did not include a wife or becoming Chieftain of Clan Murdock. But to see his plans to fruition, he first had to rid himself of an unwanted wife.

There was something about the abbey that set him on edge. The place appeared more like a prison than a sanctuary with the high stone wall surrounding it. He did not fear entering it, though those beyond the wall might fear granting him entrance once they looked upon him. But this was where his wife was, and he was curious as to what she was doing here rather than at home with her clan.

Women were sent to an abbey for any number of reasons and some women even chose to retreat to one from time to time. Had his wife chosen to spend time here in prayer or hadn’t the choice been hers because she was a difficult woman who required lessons in being an obedient wife? Either way, it did not matter to him. She would not be his wife for long and, if by chance, she felt as he did about the marriage, she would readily agree to dissolve it.

He dismounted in front of the thick wooden door and gave a yank on the bell rope to announce his arrival. He kept the hood of his cloak pulled down to cover a good portion of his face. He would not have anyone see it before he was granted entrance.

A small square in the center of the door suddenly opened and someone demanded, “Who bids entrance?”

Cavell’s substantial height would have forced him to bow his head to see who was speaking, but he bowed to no man.

“I am here to fetch my wife, Elsie of the Clan Murdock,” he called out, not giving any other indication as to his identity.

The door creaked open, and Cavell entered, one hand giving a tug on his horse’s reins to follow behind him and his other hand near the hilt of his dagger at his waist. He had learned well not to trust and to always be prepared to defend.

The monk’s head barely reached Cavell’s shoulder and his considerable girth indicated that he surrendered often to the sin of gluttony, and while most would think him no threat, Cavell knew better. He had known many a man the monk’s generous size to be a worthy opponent.

“I am Brother Emanual,” the monk said and waved to a nearby monk. “Brother James will see to the care and feeding of your horse while we speak and partake of our delicious mead.”

Cavell grew suspicious. What was there to speak of? He was there to collect his wife. He chose to say nothing and followed Brother Emanual into the abbey. He kept his head bent just enough so no one could glance upon his face, though that would not be for long.

They had barely made their way into the entrance of the abbey when a horrific scream echoed throughout the structure and sent Cavell’s hand clutching the handle of his dagger.

“This way,” Brother Emanual said, leading the way and paying no mind to the scream.

As a warrior, Cavell was well acquainted with paying heed to one’s senses. It saved many a warrior’s life. Right now, his senses were warning him that something was not right there.

Not sure where he was being taken or the monk’s intention, he didn’t wait. He shoved his hood back off his head.

The monk stopped at an open door and turned to Cavell to allow him to enter first and his gasp sounded more like a scream as his eyes rounded in shock when he looked upon his face.
