“I hope so. Sly is acting like I’m a delicate flower, and while it was hard to get dressed, not working isn’t an option.” I hold my arms out. Nessa slips a pair of latex gloves on and rotates my hand, causing me to wince on the side that took most of the burn. A part of me is worried she’ll say it’s too severe for her to treat and I’ll have to go to urgent care or the hospital. Those are two places I loathe the most. I think most adults do; it could be me, though.

“Okay, this one is healing nicely. Now, the other one definitely needs a better ointment, and I think antibiotics might be in order, too. Let me call a doctor who does virtual visits to see if he wouldn’t mind calling in a stronger cream as well as the medication. Once it’s applied, you’ll feel better and probably be able to work. Typing might be hard until it kicks in, though.” I grimace. This is going to take a lot longer, and Sylvester is going to lose his shit, feel like he failed me by not doing what he wanted all along.

“Okay, who’s going to tell the grizzly bear that he was right?” Nessa raises her eyebrows in a way that says not it. “Yeah, I figured it would be me. Damn it.” My one hope is that he doesn’t feel the need to make me take a day off work. I’ve yet to use so much as a sick day; I’m fully capable of working through a cold, and knowing what missing a day of work would do. He’d be more than behind, as would I. Is this week over yet?

“Never again, Doe, not ever again am I going against my gut when you say you’re fine,” I tell Fawn. My stomach is still churning at the fact that I should have toted her ass out of the office and brought her to the hospital, or at least a clinic. After she had her virtual consult, where the doctor prescribed what Vanessa told us he more than likely would, we went straight to the pharmacy, where she attempted to put up a fuss about who was paying for her medicines. One look was all it took, and she stepped down from arguing. If it were something more serious than paying for prescriptions, me being the cause for them, I wouldn’t have been as dominating in my tone or my looks.

“I am fine, or at least I will be now.” She holds out her wrists, showing me the handy work I finished moments ago. “We can go to work. I’ll be careful not to bang this one, and you can use voice to text for emails and what not?”

“Absolutely not. One day off work won’t hurt either of us.” We’re at my place. Her medicine is laid out, plus extra gauze and tape. The antibiotics they prescribed her are big enough to be horse pills. As much as Nessa tried to calm me down, saying this was standard procedure with any patient who suffered burns, it still didn’t settle my ass down. Christ, the need to take my anger out on myself is simmering just below the surface.

“Fine.” She sits back in her chair, full of defiance. Everyone knows when a woman says fine, it is indeed the exact opposite. My only saving grace is we’re currently at my house. She stayed quiet after the pharmacy, and when we pulled into the parking garage, her silence continued, probably trying to figure out a way to finagle leaving. There’s no such thing happening. My hope is that she’ll relax enough and let her body heal somewhat. Seeing the tiredness in her eyes solidifies that sleep is a necessity.

“Are you hungry? The antibiotics suggest you eat before taking them.” I pick up the empty gauze wrappers and stand up, watching as her gaze settles on my hard dick, my black slacks doing nothing to conceal what she does to me. “I see you’re hungry for something, Doe, but that’s not for you, not yet at least.” I watch as her gaze transform. Gone is the woman who was willing to hold out on me because I wouldn’t let her work, which is saying a lot with my own penchant for working non-stop. Nevertheless, I watch as Fawn’s tongue comes out to lick her lips, teeth nibbling on her plush bottom lip. A mouth I’ve yet to taste. I’ll be rectifying that today just as soon as she eats, takes her medicine, and is finally resting.

“Um, yeah. Food is probably a good idea.” I love that she’s flustered because of me. I head to the fridge while unbuttoning the sleeves of my shirt, folding them back to my forearms. I can feel my Doe’s eyes on me, much like she did earlier in the car. Not acknowledging her while she did, well, it was damn near impossible.
