“Am I late for something?” I sit up and try to find the time. I’m always running late because that’s always Meadow’s strong suit. Bingo trots over to me wanting pets, and I look up to see Mace is already dressed in a suit. He’s got his phone pressed to his ear, and he’s staring at me. “What’s happening?” I yawn. I want to fall back into the fluffy pillows and go to sleep.

Actually I want to grab Mace’s tie and then pull him down into the bed with me.

“Yeah, I’ll be there soon,” he says into the phone before ending the call, and I can tell he’s pissed. I’m sure being a lawyer can make you pissed a lot, or maybe I’ve watched too much television.

“You’re leaving me,” I huff. “You’re my partner. We have wedding things to do.” I’m not sure what’s left on the list, but I don’t want him to go. Since our moment in the kitchen yesterday, we haven’t gotten to finish what we started as Mace promised we would.

“Don’t say it that way. I’m never leaving you.” Mace leans down to kiss me.

His fingers sink into my hair, and I wrap my arms around him. Gosh, this feels perfect. My sister was right, and I’m not going to fight whatever this is that’s happening between Mace and me. In fact, I might have some making up to do.

“Sorry, just not excited for you to leave,” I say, and Mace groans at my response.

“You know how long I’ve dreamed of this? You in my bed wanting me in it with you?”

“Longer than you should have.”

He gives me a small smile, and I see some of the irritation from his phone call fading. His eyes soften as he looks at me, and damn, do I love that. I love Mace. It’s silly it took me so long to see how perfect we are together.

“I’ve poked at you for years.”

“I’ve been wanting to poke you for years,” he admits, and I snort a laugh.

“That was a terrible joke.”

“You still laughed.” He kisses me again. “I have to go into the office. Something’s come up. I’ll be back as soon as I can,” he promises.

“I’ll miss you, but I’m sure there are a million and one things I need to get done, so you do what you need to.”

“When this wedding is over—”

“Don’t,” I cut him off. “If you tell me your plans, I might lure you back into bed to see if you’ll do them now. It’s better that I don’t know.”

“You’re mine, beauty,” he vows.

“I know.” He drops one more kiss on my lips before leaving me in bed with Bingo. “I suppose I should feed everyone and check my phone.” I give Bingo a few more pets before I make myself get up.

When I look at myself, I notice I’m wearing one of Mace’s shirts. I really must have been out of it when he brought me back home last night. Why do I find it sexy that he changed me? Too bad I missed it. I snag my phone off the charger, seeing that Mace left a cup of coffee for me next to it.

“Meadow has no idea I got the better twin,” I tell Bingo as I text Mace.

Me: Get a nice peek when you changed my clothes?

Mace: Clothes or no clothes, it’s always a nice peek when it comes to seeing you.

His response is sweet, but I can’t help myself. I want to be a little naughty.

Me: Did you jack off?

Mace: Beauty….

I smirk, imagining him having to adjust himself in his slacks.

Me: Miss you

I decide I’ve done enough teasing when it comes to Mace. I see how Meadow and Heath are together. I thought it was crazy the two of them wanted to get married so fast, but I’m not thinking that anymore. Enough years have been spent without Mace being mine even though he kind of always has been.

Mace: Miss you too.

How long will it be before we say I love you? Not in the way a family member says to one another. Sure, I’ve walked out of a room with both our families in it and shouted bye and love you guys. But I’ve never looked Mace in the eyes and said those words only to him.

I'm tired of missing out on anything with him. I’m going to do it. In fact, the next time I see him, I’m going to say it.

My mind drifts to what life will be like with Mace as I feed our little ones and handle a few more details for the wedding. I even set up someone to come and check on our pets while we’re gone. There will be too much going on down at the beach houses to take them.

When I see it’s almost lunch time, I decide I’m going to take everyone some food. Meadow is at the office with Heath and Mace. I grab my bag and place a pick-up order for a deli down the street from the law firm, then get a ride over.
