I turn and let out a squeak when I see him at the entrance. He’s arguing with the doorman who’s standing in his way, not wanting to let him in. He’s still soaking wet and only wearing shorts.

“Oh my god!” I squeal as I leap over the counter and crawl under Tina’s desk.

Neither of the twins say a thing about me hiding by Tina’s legs. They’re too busy gawking at the half-naked mountain man who wants to come in.

Why does he want to come in? What is he even doing here?

“Why is he all wet?” Tiffany asks.

“Look at him,” Tina says. “He probably gets women so wet and juicy that they explode all over him whenever he walks by.”

“Like exploding juice boxes of desire.”

“What are you talking about?!” I whisper-scream at them. “I told you he was swimming naked in the river!”

“You said that?”

“Yes!”

Tiffany shrugs. “We have this amazing ability where we can stare at someone and nod, but retain nothing they said.”

“It’s a superpower, really,” Tina adds.

“Is he coming inside?” I ask, desperate to know. I so badly want to peek over the counter, but I’d die if he saw me. He’s probably here to chew me out for spying on him. What if he gets me kicked out of the lodge? No! What if he tells the cops and I get arrested as a sexual predator and get thrown in jail? I can’t live behind bars! I can barely even handle living in New Jersey!

“He’s trying to come in, but Greg won’t let him. Is he here for you?”

“I don’t know,” I gasp with my hands trembling. They’re literally shaking.

“He’s so hot,” Tiffany says. “You saw him naked?”

“Yes!” So naked… So unbelievably naked…

“You saw his ding dong?” Tina asks.

“Was it more ding or dong?”

I can feel my cheeks turning red. It definitely wasn’t ding. “Dong.”

Tina nods in approval. “I knew it.”

“I bet it’s like a tree trunk down there,” Tiffany says as she gawks at him. “How big was it?”

“About this—No! This is inappropriate.”

“Whoop, he’s coming over.”

“What?!” I gasp in a whisper. I hold my legs under the counter and pull myself into the tiniest ball I can manage. I squeeze my eyes shut and hold my breath when I hear him barreling over.

“Don’t make me call the Sheriff,” the doorman Greg says.

“Call him,” a deep throaty voice answers. It sounds like a panther. It’s the audible equivalent of ultra-smooth suede or melted chocolate. It makes the tiny hairs on my arms rise up in attention. “I’ll just be a second.”

“Dude, you’re trying my patience,” Greg warns. “You’re half-naked and you’re soaking wet.”

Speaking of soaking wet…

“Can I service you?” Tina asks.

“We can both take care of your needs if you’d like,” Tiffany adds with a flick of her short black hair.

“Fuck this, I’m calling the Sheriff!” Greg says as he storms away.

“I’m looking for a girl,” the hot mountain man says in a desperate tone. I can feel the need and urgency in his voice and it’s making my heart tighten. I can’t breathe. “She’s more of an angel, actually. She has the most beautiful blonde hair and stunning blue eyes that shine like pools of sapphire. Have you seen a gorgeous woman like that?”

Tina looks under the desk at me for a moment and then turns back to him. “No, I haven’t.”

Hey!

But seriously… Is he talking about me?

“Dylan,” a new feminine voice says. Who is that? His girlfriend? Oh my god, I’ll die if it is. I didn’t even consider that this perfect specimen of raw masculinity is most likely taken. He can have his pick of any woman in the world. Of course, he’s not single. “You’re all wet.”

“It wasn’t us,” Tina says.

“I’m sorry, Lauren,” Dylan says. “I’m just… I’m looking for someone.”

His voice sounds like it’s cracking. Like he’s barely hanging on. He sounds desperate to find this gorgeous angel of a woman who I’m now pretty certain is not me. It can’t be, right?

“Who are you looking for?” Lauren asks.

Yeah, Dylan. Who are you looking for?

“An angel,” he says, sounding breathless. “I saw her on the hiking trail. Blonde hair. Luscious lips. I have to ask her something.”

I squeeze my legs a little harder as I stare at Tina’s knees. What does he want to ask me? Um, her?

“We’ll keep a lookout for you,” Lauren says in a firm voice. “Now please leave if you don’t have a shirt. Look, you’re dripping all over your brother’s floor.”

Their voices get muffled. I think they’re walking to the door.

“Is he gone?” I whisper.

“Yeah,” Tina says after a few seconds. “You can come up now.”

I climb out from under the counter and quickly peek over to make sure that he’s truly gone. It would be just like these two to tell me to come up and he’s still standing there.
