“You didn't have to do all that.” Bunny drops her arms from around me, turning some to face my mom. “How did you know I was moving in? I just found out.”

“I know my son. When he sets his mind to something, there is no stopping him.”

“Wonder where I got that from,” I say dryly.

“Me of course.” Mom starts pulling stuff out of the bags. “Next on the list are grandbabies.”

“Mom,” I cut her off. “I’m already working on it.” Bunny gasps, burying her face in my chest. “But you’re interrupting us.”

“Right. I’ll leave these things here and I’ll start working on wedding plans. The two of you have more important things to get done.”

“Rebecca.” Bunny jerks back to look at her. “You’re all crazy.”

“You love it,” Mom tells her as she comes over and kisses Bunny on both her cheeks. “I’m gonna be the Mama you never had.” She gives her one last kiss on the nose before she turns to leave me with a teary-eyed Bunny. I may not have had a good dad but my mom made up for it. She had given me so much love. She’s the reason why I know how to love Bunny with everything I have.

“I do love you guys kind of crazy.” She drops her head back to look up at me. “Married?”

“Yeah, married. Isn't that what people in love do?”

“It’s not crazy fast?”

“I don’t think so and I’m not letting other people's opinions of what is right and wrong or how to live our lives dictate what we do. If we want to get married, we get married. If you want to give it time that’s fine too.” It isn't fine. I want her to be mine in every way, as soon as possible, but I am more than willing to do whatever I have to do to make her happy. It will go along with me showing her I’ll always do anything for her.

“I’ll have to think about it.” She scrunches her face as though she’s deep in thought. I try to keep my expression the same, not wanting her to know that I’m a bit disappointed. “Okay, marriage sounds good.” She cracks a smile.

Sounds more than fucking good.

“You’re going to pay for that later.” I pick her up, and she wraps her legs around me as I spin her around. Life is a road that has many twists and turns. Some are good, some are bad, but I’m thankful for every single one of them because they led me straight to Bunny. Right where I belong.

Epilogue

Bunny

“This is terrible.” I grab the pot from off the stove, dropping it into the sink. Jameson hides his laugh behind his coffee. “Should you be out milking a pig or something? I mean cow!” This time he can’t hide his laughter. His deep grumble booms throughout the kitchen, making me smile too. He always makes me smile. I might suck at cooking but life is wonderful. It has been since the moment I met Jameson. “I can’t cook. I give up.”

I’d gotten the wild idea that I was going to plant a small garden in the backyard and try to make fresh baby food. I am only in the beginning stages of everything but it isn’t going as planned. Even my test runs are failing. I’m only five months pregnant, but I thought with a little practice I would get this down. Nope. I was wrong. Obviously you have to be a master chef in order to make this stuff.

“We can buy baby food,” he reminds me, sitting his coffee down. At least I’ve mastered that coffee machine and breakfast. I’m not sure that really counts because I just put bacon in the oven and make eggs with toast. There might be a few shells in them but there’s nothing wrong with that. Jameson still eats them with a smile on his face. That alone brings me joy.

“I know.” I let out a sigh. It’s over a year out before we’ll even need baby food but I was trying things out. I wanted to explore my capabilities. To see if I might have any other passions that I wasn’t aware of. I love the thrill I get from trying new things. So much of my life has been about dancing and playing the violin.

I had traveled so much and seen so many places that I never had much time to try anything else out. Now I have a wonderful husband who loves me and wants me to do whatever it is that makes me happy. I’ve never felt this type of freedom before. I still love to dance and play my violin, but it’s nice to have options.

I should give knitting a go. Everyone is doing that now. “I feel like I should be doing more.”
