I wanted the best outcome, of course. However, I knew the damage that laid ahead of us. If Peter and Edward actually had Biba, it wouldn’t be easy to free her. She would be somewhere hard to find and get into, and they were dangerous men. If we made one wrong move, Biba could die, and everything would’ve been for nothing. But my life also felt like nothing without her.

“I’d die for her,” I said simply. That was how much I cared about her. Of course, I didn’t want to die, but she was the most honorable cause of death for me because I loved her. What better reason to die than for than love?

“So would I,” Sol replied as we looked over at each other. “Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.”

CHAPTER 10

BIBA

The pitiful sound of my stomach growling made my jaw clench. I was so hungry and desperate for food at that point that my stomach ached. Edward decided to stop feeding me a few days ago, trying to weaken my spirits.

It was working.

I couldn’t hardly think straight because I felt so lethargic and dizzy. Maybe they wouldn’t kill me by shooting me or suffocating me. Maybe they would kill me by watching me starve to death. I was sure that they would get kicks out of that since they were such sick people.

“Aw, is someone hungry?” Edward asked as he looked over from relighting one of the torches.

I didn’t answer him, and I didn’t bother to look at him either. He took every word I spoke and every action that I made as some sort of challenge, and I didn’t have the energy to deal with him today. I focused on breathing instead, attempting to soothe myself through the hunger and discomfort as much as I could.

Edward never took silence for an answer either, though. He walked toward me, each step echoing throughout the catacombs. When he stopped right in front of me, the tips of our shoes nearly brushing, he gripped my chin to tilt my head up so that I looked into his eyes.

“If only you were kinder,” Edward murmured before letting his eyes roam over my body. “And more willing.”

I rolled my eyes automatically, jerking my chin away from his grip. I was tired of his sick, sexual comments. He was so much like Arvo in so many ways, but he was somehow worse. Now, I was trapped with him in a dimly lit, locked room, and I couldn’t begin to think of a darker nightmare.

“Don’t be feisty,” Edward told me in a firmer voice. He grabbed my throat instead, not squeezing but holding. He leaned closer to me, our noses nearly brushing. “Or I’ll punish you in ways you could never imagine.”

I already felt like I was being punished in ways I would’ve never imagined. With his hand on my throat, I couldn’t move. All I could do was hold his gaze and try not to show him how scared I was of him. I didn’t know what lengths he would go to, and I didn’t want to find out personally.

Edward chuckled, seeming amused by how tense I was.

“Good girl. See? You can behave,” he said, letting his fingertips trail down my throat and over the swell of my breasts through my shirt. He smirked when I tried to draw away, but he merely placed his hands over my wrists and peered at me. “Or maybe I should try you out now before we dispose of your body.”

My eyes shot wide open. His words rang in my head, echoing over and over, and I still couldn’t fully grasp them. Of course, I knew my death was a possibility at the end of all this, but I didn’t expect to face this so soon.

Edward cracked a crooked grin.

“You’re so damn stubborn, Biba. Plus, no one has come to rescue you, so we’re just wasting our time and energy on you,” Edward explained to me with a shrug. “I think it’s time for Peter and me to move on.”

“Why can’t you just let me go?” I gritted out, pulling against the ropes. It was a hopeless move, but I just wanted to be released. This had to be tiring for everyone involved besides Edward, who seemed like he was having the time of his life torturing me.

Edward dug his blunt nails into my wrists, pinning me back down.

“Because you’re a troublemaker. You get in everyone’s shit and complicate everything,” he replied. “And don’t lie to me and say you’ll stay out of it. Like your father, you can’t mind your own damn business.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. I was tired of them saying bad things about my father. He had done the right thing, and like him, I wanted to fight the good fight. I wanted to expel evil from Stormcloud, starting with the current Kings.
