Looking at Brooke now, he wondered why he was waiting. He didn’t want to wait another moment to see his ring on her finger. And despite the progress they’d made as a couple, he needed to hear her say she’d be his in every way.
He knew Brooke didn’t want a big production or proposal. She wasn’t the type to want something flashy or impressive. She just needed him the same way he needed her.
Taking her hand, Aiden led her around his desk and pulled open the drawer.
She looked inside and at the sight of the little black velvet box, her eyes went wide. “Aiden?”
He pulled it out, ready to give the speech of a lifetime.
Dropping to one knee, he took her hand in his. “Brooke, you have been in my life for so long, I now can’t imagine what it’s like without you. Hell, I was dumb enough to try, and I never want to go through that torture again.”
Her damp eyes met his and her hand shook, but she waited patiently, listening to every word he had to say. And he had plenty.
He smiled. “I want to wake up beside you every day and go to bed holding you each night. I want to start a family together and enjoy all the big and small things life brings. I want it all, but mostly, I want you in every way.”
He flipped open the box. “Brooklyn Snyder, will you forgive me for every mistake I ever made and trust I will do my very best to never hurt you again? Will you marry me?”
Brooke blinked and tears rolled down her cheeks, but her smile was wide as she nodded. “Yes, Aiden. Yes to everything. To a life together, to a family, to forgiveness always, and to forever.”
He pulled out the emerald-cut four-carat diamond set in a platinum diamond band—because Brooke deserved nothing less—and slid it onto her hand.
“This is too much!” she said, but she was crying and still smiling at the same time.
“Nothing is too much for you.” Aiden hugged her, lifting her off her feet and kissing her for a good long while. When he finally released her, he asked, “Want to go next door and tell the parents?”
Though he’d love to end this proposal in bed, he knew his soon-to-be wife too well. She’d want to share the news with her mom. And he wanted to spread the good news to his father and tell his dad that Brooke would officially be part of their family. He also had a hunch Alex would be popping the question to Lizzie very soon.
Once the parents knew, the sibling phone chain would begin.
If that meant Aiden had to wait to get Brooke into bed later tonight? That was just fine. They were beginning the rest of their lives together, and he couldn’t wait.
