Big Dick put his cell phone down. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me. I know I fucked up last time, and you’re pissed at me, and you have every right to be, but I’m not backing down. I’m telling you I want her, and I’m going to fight for her.”
“You’re going to fight for her.” Big Dick got to his feet. “Then let us go handle this like men.”
Stepping out of the room, Hunter took to the stairs once again, but this time he didn’t stop at the main room, and instead went straight outside. He watched as Big Dick walked outside, and he wasn’t surprised to see the guys also coming out.
“So, you think you’re good enough for my sister?” Big Dick asked.
“I’m the best man for her.”
Big Dick removed his leather cut, and Hunter followed suit, handing his to Brick.
“My sister is better than you,” Big Dick said.
“I know.”
Hunter stepped close to Big Dick, and he waited.
“Do you expect me to let you near her after everything you’ve done?” Big Dick asked.
“Yes, because you and I both know Harlow loves me. She doesn’t love that fucking loser. They’re friends, nothing more, nothing less. She is mine. She has always been mine.”
And that was the first blow Hunter took. Big Dick swiped his fist across his cheek, and Hunter was more than happy to take the blow. The next one came toward his chin, but this time he defended himself.
The blows were brutal and vicious, but also necessary. He didn’t stop in his attack, neither did Big Dick. There were no rules, just a fight between buddies to clear the air.
Hunter didn’t know how long it lasted, but it was long enough for Smokey to arrive and to call time. Big Dick had blood dripping from his mouth, and Hunter knew blood was coming from his nose. He would hurt tomorrow and be covered in a fresh assortment of bruises.
“What the fuck is this?” Smokey asked, getting between the two.
Hunter didn’t know who had blabbed, but he didn’t care.
Smokey would have had to be called to put a stop to the fight. Neither of them would have stopped otherwise.
Big Dick didn’t talk and Hunter glared at him, but he wasn’t going to back down. “I want the right to pursue Harlow,” Hunter said.
He made his voice strong, and he allowed it to carry as well. A deathly silence fell on the club.
Big Dick started to laugh. “And you think you can win her over? After all you’ve done?”
“Yeah, I do.”
“Oh, yeah, and how do you figure that?” Big Dick asked.
“Because I love her.”
“You don’t know what love is.” Big Dick spat on the floor.
“I know what it means to be with her and I know what it means to be without her. I don’t want to be without her. I love her, and I’m not going to back down. You want to come here every night so I can prove it to you? I’ll pummel your ass and get pummeled if that’s what it’ll take to get her back, and for you to give me your blessing.”
“I’m not her father,” Big Dick said.
“No, but you were, at one point, the most important person in her life. Harlow adores you, and I know she will forgive you, and I’m hoping she will forgive me. I’m not going to break her heart again. I’m going to heal it.”
Hunter didn’t have a clue how he was going to do that, but he couldn’t allow her to go out with that man again. Good or not, Andrew wasn’t right for her. He was the only man for her.
Big Dick stepped toward him and then thrust his hand out. “Good luck.”
Chapter Twenty
Hailey seemed a little quiet over the weekend. Harlow had to fill in the conversation, but come Monday, her boss and best friend was back to being her old chatty self. She didn’t know if it had something to do with her cell phone as she always seemed to be on it. From the small snippets Hailey had given her, she was supposed to spend all weekend with Lover Boy, but he had canceled on her, and she had gotten understandably upset by that.
The strawberry jam went down a treat and Hailey was already addicted to it. So much so, they had both decided to have strawberry sandwiches. Larissa had stopped by on Sunday to bring them a freshly baked loaf of bread. They had eaten a good portion of it on the day, and the leftovers had been turned into jam sandwiches.
Harlow liked to go to the diner for lunch, but her jam was on point. It was sweet, but not too sweet. She had added a little hint of vanilla as well. Not too much, just enough to make the mouth water.
Arriving at work, Harlow felt great. It had been a good weekend. Andrew had been called to help with his family, so any plans they had were canceled. She was relieved they were as she didn’t know how much she could take. She liked Andrew, but she didn’t want to hurt him. If he was determined for there to be more between them, he was going to get hurt.
