He suddenly jerks back. He starts to tremble and shake all over.

My hand flies to my mouth as I gasp. “No!”

He’s having some kind of seizure. His body must be shutting down from his deep wounds. I can’t watch.

I look away as he roars and trembles, squeezing my eyes shut as a loud tear rips through the forest.

I gasp and wrench my eyes open.

The bear is gone.

A naked man is in his place, breathing heavily and looking at me with those same warm brown eyes.

And this day just keeps on getting weirder.

CHAPTER THREE

Noah

“What just happened?” the beautiful woman in front of me says with a startled gasp. “Who are you?”

She’s looking around for my bear, but all she’s seeing is forest.

“Where did you come from? Are you with them?”

She points the barrel of the shotgun at my chest as she blows a strand of blonde hair out of her face.

This angel is even more breathtaking in person. I knew immediately who she was—what she was to me—as I was watching her from inside my bear.

She’s my mate. There’s no doubt about it.

“What did you do with the bear?” she says with her voice rising. Her gorgeous blue eyes dart around the forest as she keeps the gun trained on me. “Where is he?”

I slowly put my hands up, showing her my palms.

“Everything’s okay,” I whisper. It is now. My mate is here.

“What the fuck did you do to him?” she says as those fierce eyes sear into me.

It makes my legs wobble, her looking at me like that. She’s unbelievable. The fire in her eyes… The passion… The bravery.

She didn’t even hesitate to take on four mercenary shifters to save a wild bear. I’m already in love and I don’t even know her name.

My eyes quickly roam over her and something in me stirs. That curvy waist, those long slim legs. Fucking hell…

Her long blonde hair is tied up in a ponytail and a fierce desire to pull out that elastic and watch her gorgeous locks tumble down hits me hard. I squeeze my tingling hand into a fist as I fight back the urge to go to her.

She’s stunning. All I can do is stare in awe. At her soft plump lips, her narrowed eyes, her feminine hands, I want to study and admire every inch of her.

“Last chance, motherfucker,” she says as she pumps the barrel of her shotgun. “Where. Is. The. Bear?”

I take a deep breath and decide that honesty is the best option. It always is with mates.

“I am the bear.”

“What does that mean?” she shouts in a fierce tone. “Is that part of your weird freaky sex cult?”

“What?!”

“You have sex with the bear and then think you become it?”

Oh my god, my mate thinks I’m a sexual deviant.

“What are you talking about?! I’m a bear shifter.”

Her blue eyes widen for a second, but then they narrow back on me, hardening even more. “Bullshit.”

“It’s true,” I say. “I was that bear. I was inside him like he’s inside me now.”

I can tell her mind is racing. I wish I could know what she’s thinking. I wish I could know everything about her. Her hopes and dreams and desires and fears. I want to know it all.

“Prove it,” she says. “Bring that bear back out.”

“I… can’t.”

She grins like she just got me in a checkmate. “How convenient.”

“You don’t understand! He’s a… dangerous bear. I can’t risk him around you.”

“I trust him more than I trust you!”

“Look,” I say as I show her the wound on my leg. That fucking French asshole stabbed my bear with his sword. Our enhanced healing is working double-time, but it’s still trickling out blood.

“So?”

“It’s the same place the bear was wounded,” I tell her, hoping she’ll understand.

She takes a few deep breaths as she looks at it. “Doesn’t prove a thing. So, pull out that bear or you’ll be pulling out a shotgun slug from your fucking chest. Now! Three, two—“

“Okay! Okay!”

Fuck. This is bad. My bear finally lets me pull him in after weeks of keeping me contained and now I have to let him back out.

Normally, I’d refuse. He’s too reckless. Too merciless. But… something feels different. He feels different. He feels like he used to feel.

I thought it was the wound that took the edge off him, but now I’m thinking it’s her. Maybe my mate was what my feral bear needed to finally chill the fuck out.

I can feel him inside and he’s calm and cool, just chilling out and watching like he hasn’t in years. He’s not pacing inside or charging at the surface, savagely trying to get out and wreak havoc on the world. He’s as captivated with this beauty as I am.

If I let you out, will you behave? I ask him.

No growls. No snarls. No clawing his way up.
